Chapter 2:
Confusion and Confession
Taking Yuki outside for the first time felt strange. Just yesterday she had been sleeping on my chest as a cat,
and now she walked beside me like an actual person. She wore one of my oversized hoodies that nearly reached her knees,
the sleeves covering her hands. Her steps were light, almost clumsy, and her bright blue eyes moved
everywhere with endless curiosity, like the world itself was something new to her.
People turned to look. Some smiled. Some whispered. I tried not to notice any of it.
When we passed a small corner shop, the elderly owner peeked out and warmly greeted us.
She smiled the moment she saw us and said how sweet it was to see a young couple shopping together.
My brain short-circuited. I denied it instantly, face burning, but she only laughed harder when she noticed our matching outfits.
Yuki, completely unaware of why I was panicking, simply held onto my sleeve with a confused smile.
That evening, back at the apartment, the problem became obvious. Yuki still had no real clothes.
When I finally said it out loud, she looked genuinely worried about wasting my money on her.
I had to remind her that I worked part-time and that I could afford it. In the end, we went to the mall together.
Inside the clothing store, I tried my best to act normal while helping her choose outfits. That’s when an all-too-familiar teasing voice hit my ears. Mina.
She appeared with her usual grin, and of course, she instantly misunderstood everything.
Her two friends soon joined her, and before I could explain properly, Yuki was already being dragged away into the fitting area with them.
I was left standing outside the store. Alone. Helpless. And somehow embarrassed even though I hadn’t done anything wrong.
People passed by, glanced at me, and whispered. A group of girls even assumed I had been abandoned by my girlfriend. No one believed me when I tried to explain.
When the store curtain finally moved again, Mina peeked out with a mischievous smile and told me to prepare myself. Yuki stepped out.
For a second, everything went quiet in my head. She wore a soft cream-colored dress that moved gently as she walked.
Her white hair flowed freely, and the shy way she held the hem of her dress made my heart stumble.
She asked how she looked. I didn’t know how to answer. The only thing I felt was panic mixed with something dangerously close to pride.
I told her she looked too good and that now I’d have to protect her from the whole world.
Mina and the others immediately started teasing me and said " be careful Kai or someone might steal her "
before I realized it, Yuki had wrapped herself around my arm and declared that I belonged to her.
I surrendered instantly. The next day, on my way back from school, I heard a weak meow near the sidewalk.
Beneath a bush, a small brown cat with soft fur and pink eyes trembled in fear. She was alone. Just like Yuki once was.
Without thinking twice, I picked her up and took her home .When I opened the door, Yuki rushed toward me with her usual bright smile.
It vanished the moment she noticed the cat in my arms. I introduced the new cat casually, completely unaware that I had just stepped onto a landmine.
Yuki asked if I found the cat cute.I answered honestly. That was my mistake.
According to Yuki, I was now cheating on her with another cat. No explanation worked. No logic survived.
In the end, she snatched the cat from my arms and decided we would keep her, but only after whispering a warning into the little cat’s ear that I was her human.
That night, while I cooked dinner, the new cat now named Kaoe relaxed on the couch that Yuki once claimed as her own. The jealousy finally exploded.
Yuki accused me of changing. I told her she was still my favorite. She blushed. Everything seemed peaceful again.
Until Kaoe rubbed herself against my leg. I bent down to pet her. She purred softly and stared straight at Yuki with quiet confidence.
And in that silent exchange, without a single word, I understood. A war had begun. And the battlefield was my heart.
