Chapter 70:
Veil of the Shadow Hunter
Leegna stood at the edge of the silent realm, the void stretching before him, his thoughts darker than the shadows that surrounded him. Yuj's voice echoed in his ears, offering advice on how to dismantle the Time Guardians. Leegna was calm, almost too calm. His piercing gaze remained locked on Yuj, the one who had manipulated him for so long, who now unknowingly teetered on the edge of becoming Leegna's next target.
Yuj, with his usual smirk, revealed his plan. "The Guardians are vulnerable now. I have minions, shadow fragments I've gathered over time. We can destroy them, and I'll set up fakes to assume their roles. The master of the Guardians? We can replace him too. Perhaps the eyeless creature, Stina's fragments, could be the new puppet on the throne. It would keep the balance, no one would notice—"
Leegna's eyes flared with a cold, blue glow. "No," he interrupted sharply, his voice low yet filled with a quiet menace. "Not her."
Yuj's smirk faltered slightly, but he recovered quickly. "Then we find another way."
Leegna's mind churned with possibilities. He could feel the surge of power coursing through him, the cold clarity of his thoughts sharper than ever. The Time Guardians were no longer the real problem—they were pawns, remnants of a system he was ready to tear down. Yuj was the true obstacle, the manipulator who had always stayed one step ahead. But now, Leegna saw through him.
As they left the Time Guardians' realm, Leegna's expression remained unreadable, his mind already plotting the next move. "We need to regroup," he said coolly. "Rethink our attack on the Dark Embassy. But for now, let's rest."
Unlec, still recovering from the previous battle, glanced at Leegna with concern, sensing the change in his demeanor. The eyeless creature remained silent, a constant, unsettling presence at Leegna's side. It moved without question, acting as his shield and weapon.
Later that night, as the others settled into uneasy rest, Leegna remained awake. His thoughts spiraled deeper into the void. Yuj had given him the pieces, the means to destroy the Guardians, to manipulate the realm as he saw fit. But Leegna's mind had already leapt far beyond that. Yuj was a threat, but he was also a tool—a tool that could be used and discarded when the time came.
He drifted into a fitful sleep, and the precognitive dream washed over him like a storm. Visions flashed before his eyes—dark figures crumbling, shadows twisting, and at the center, Yuj's smug grin dissolving into terror. Leegna stood over him, his rapier gleaming, ready to sever the final thread that bound Yuj to his fate.
When he awoke, the morning light barely broke through the veil of shadow surrounding him, but something had changed. Leegna's smirk returned, but this time it was colder, sharper, more dangerous. The precognition had shown him what he needed to see.
He rose, his confidence renewed, his body thrumming with a dark, unstoppable energy. His mind was set, his goal clear. Yuj's end was near, and Leegna would savor every moment leading to it. The Time Guardians were nothing more than a stepping stone now. His real enemy, his real conquest, was within reach.
Standing tall, Leegna looked at the horizon and muttered, his voice barely above a whisper but filled with malice. "The time is upon me, finally. This is the time to put an end to him, to them? Perhaps I'll show them the dance of the shadows and will darken their fate even more."
With that, the chapter ended, leaving an eerie silence in its wake—a silence that hinted at the storm that was about to descend on Yuj, the Guardians, and anyone who dared to stand in Leegna's way.
