Chapter 47:
En Passant Grandmaster Volume 2
Yuusuke Shouse, age 17. Occupation: Second-year high school student. Birthday: May 14th. Favorite chess piece: The bishop.
This young man is in the in-between realm of delinquent and not, though often is categorized as one, usually due to him always being in a lousy mood when he wakes up. His morning starts with his mother forcefully dragging him out of bed to wake him up, then having him make his own breakfast for himself. If he fails to pack a lunch, he'll need to buy at the school.
Yuusuke is not a very good student, barely managing to pass even when he works his hardest. Chess is one of the few things he's decent at, but compared to his peers, he's often looked down upon. Elected as the first vice-president of the chess club, Yuusuke is subjected to daily humiliation by Okisato, completely out of spite for losing the election to him. This greatly hurts his reputation and self-esteem, hindering his growth.
When he returns home from school, he's often yelled at by his mother should she catch wind of something bad he did at school. He then plays video games, often into the early hours of morning, completely neglecting his studies.
Dinner is self-serve at his place as Hagemi can't cook. Though if she does have a business trip and can't be home, she'll often buy a meal from the store and leave it for Yuusuke. Despite his delinquent-like persona, Yuusuke doesn't like going out at night, which is why he'll often rush home before it gets dark.
When the weekends finally arrive, Yuusuke often finds himself being dragged to chess tournaments, usually by order of his mother. Living in her shadow truly does hurt the poor boy's psych, more so when he tries his best to win, but fails and gets berated. There are times he wonders why he was even born if his mother hates him so much.
When free from tournaments, he doesn't know what to do. He might just stay home and play games or go out with a friend should they call. Of course, the poor boy doesn't have many friends, nor the kind that hang out all the time on their free days, so he often just stays home. The poor boy really has it rough, and could use a psych boost. Perhaps if he can surpass expectations and get a rating of 2200 and the candidate master title, he could at least say he was decent.
