Chapter 48:
En Passant Grandmaster Volume 2
Utami Enoki, age 16. Occupation: First year high school student. Birthday: May 3rd. Favorite chess piece: The queen.
A girl with multiple personalities, she used to have the most miserable of mornings, but has now found salvation thanks to Mimoko. Before, she was strictly ordered to awake at a certain time, attend school without issue, go to the shogi club, then be home promptly once it ended. Now, she's on her own and gets up with minor stress. Some guilt lingers in her mind for the death of Nagi, but not enough to mess up her psych.
At school, she'd often find herself tormented by Shion and her ilk, but ever since Kazuya lost to Okisato, Shion's been in the hot seat, as has her lackey, Kigyoku. Not to mention Utami now has a massive confidence boost and could probably slug the two an inch from death should they pick a fight with her.
Once school gets out, she rushes over to chess club to be in Mimoko's presence. Mimoko is her savior, and as such, she worships her religiously. When chess club gets out, she'll often stalk Mimoko, sometimes even go home with her.
In the past, Utami was forced to come home immediately after school, confined to a strict schedule of schoolwork and shogi practice. Tardiness or signs of rebellion would often be met with physical abuse.
Now, Utami is free of all that. The empty home still haunts here from time to time, thus, she often rooms with Mimoko. To Mimoko, Utami's like a little sister, so she doesn't mind the company. Whenever Utami comes over, the two will often spend time chatting and playing chess for hours.
When she first started coming over, Utami would often faint from the sheer fact that she was in her idol's house and room. Now, she's completely fine. The passage of time has truly been kind to her.
In Utami's closet, rows of school uniforms and formal dresses occupy near;y all the space within. This was because in the past, Utami was forbidden from having a social life outside the one her family dictated for her. As such, she was often forced to spend her weekends either confined to home, attending a banquet, or playing in a shogi tournament, and usually doing poorly there.
Even after gaining her freedom and starting to do things on the weekends, she always wore her school uniform. One day, she finally picked out some casual clothes and turned heads when she wore them. Black punk boots and ripped jeans plus a grey tanktop, plaid jacket, and beret gave this once shy girl the perfect look to reflect her newfound confidence. Now, no matter if she spends her weekend having fun or playing in a chess tournament, she'll always be doing it in punk drip.
