Chapter 3:
Kanojo wa Koe dake - A Love Beyond the Screen
It was ten o'clock on a wonderful Saturday when Ren got woken up by the cutest alarm in the world. At least that's what she called herself. Yumeko Sato, Ren's little sister, was fifteen years old, had long dark hair—just like Ren—and two hair clips, one on each side, to keep the long hair out of her beautiful face. She was sporty, so she joined an athletic club in her middle-school. Although she was one of the oldest in her class, she was also one of the smallest. However, Yumeko couldn't care less. She even loved it, because it only enhanced her overall cuteness.
"Wake up already, big brother Ren-chan! It's ten o'clock and you did nothing but sleep!" said Yumeko while she shook her brother. Ren was still sleepy and let out a big yawn.
"Yumekooo, why can't you just let me sleep as long as I want? There is nothing to do today."
"But there is! You have to make lunch today because mom and dad are out again today."
"Where are they?" asked Ren.
"Mom is out working and dad is helping grandma and grandpa with some things at their house." said Yumeko.
Their parents were both hard-working—their father was an office worker and their mother a nurse in a big hospital—but it still was only enough for an old two-story terraced house on the Yumenari River. It was a beautiful place to live, but the house wasn't particularly beautiful. Both parents were fairly often out working so it wasn't abnormal for Ren to cook for his little sister Yumeko and himself. He even got pretty good at it in the meantime. At least, judging from Yumeko's reactions to his meals. At first she wasn't really sure if she really wanted to taste it and she even didn't really liked it in the first place but from time to time, she was happy that her big brother cooked for her and that it was so delicious as well.
But now it was time for Ren to leave the bed and to go to the bathroom to make himself ready for the day. Meanwhile Yumeko sat on the couch and watched TV.
"Ah ha, so you didn't do anything today either except watching TV." said Ren after he finished changing into an olive-green t-shirt and dark-blue sweatpants. But Yumeko retorted "No, I also did my homework and learned vocabulary for a test next week. Also I helped mom set the table for breakfast."
Nothing could be said against that. Ren had indeed done nothing on this part.
"But the day is long and I will make the meals today so I'm evening out."
"Can you make rice omelettes for me please?"
"Why that? Do we even have enough ingredients?"
"Ohh, come on big brother Ren-chan! I want rice omelettes. Can you please do me the favor? For the cutest sister in the world?"—only she called herself that—said Yumeko with a pleading look. At these points, Ren had to admit, that Yumeko was indeed the cutest sister in the world but also the most cunning in the world. No one understood the art of pleading and getting what you wanted better than Yumeko does.
"Fine I'll do it. But if I've to do the dinner, we eat the sushi I just found in our fridge."
"Oh, yes, dad bought it yesterday for us. Looks like we made a plan."
"Well, okay then." said Ren and sat down next to his little sister Yumeko.
"Don't you want to go outside with me today and do some sports?" asked Yumeko while they both now watched TV.
"Nah, I want to watch the live stream from HikariAi today. She's playing the new game again that's currently very popular."
"Always Hikari this and Ai that. Is she cuter than I am or why do you prefer her spending time with the cutest little sister in the world?" said Yumeko sulking.
Another thing Yumeko was good at, was to appeal to someone's conscience. And Ren was really asking his conscience at this point but he made plans and he wanted to implement them.
"Thank you for asking but I have to refuse your offer Yumeko-chan."
Something he hadn't said for a while now. But Yumeko wasn't really angry either. She was just messing around with Ren but both liked that. Ren's little sister, Yumeko, made it her daily duty to mess with him at least once a day. If she didn't, it was obvious that something was wrong with her. That's how it was and how they loved it.
While they were watching TV the time flew by and it already was two o'clock in the afternoon. They both were pretty hungry at this point, so it was Ren's task to take care of this situation. He was an expert when it came to rice omelettes and Yumeko loved them being decorated just like in the anime she watched. "Big brotheer! Would you mind writing something sweet for your cutest little sister in the world on her rice omelette?"
"If you like but only if you stop praising yourself so much. It gets kinda annoying right now" answered Ren slightly annoyed.
As Ren was finished with making the rice omelettes they both sat down on the dining table and he served their rice omelettes. On his was nothing, but on Yumekos he wrote "strawberry". Yumeko was confused. "What does strawberry have anything to do with sweet? I wanted to be called sweet or cute"
"Strawberries are sweet. And as much as you compliment and prais yourself I don't really need to add anything. Anyway, bon appetit." said Ren as he began to eat. Yumeko hesitated at first but then she got to eat as well.
After they finished eating, Ren went to his room and turned on his PC. It was time to dive into the live stream world. HikariAi's stream was about to begin and Ren was really looking forward to it.
"Hey hooo everyone! Thank you soo much for tuning in with me today!" said HikariAi in the live stream.
The live stream chat responded:
[User1012]: "Yay, another live stream of Ai-chan!"
[BelovedOne144]: "Hiiiii!"
And even Ren wrote a "Hello." in the chat of HikariAi.
It was the same old procedere. HikariAi started the stream and everyone was flipping out. She gets tonnes of comments and very much love from her community. To begin the day, HikariAi often starts with anecdotes of her real life. Today is no different from any other.
"I hope y'all had a wonderful week! School started today and it was very fun to begin the new school year of highschool with new people. I like it when I can get along with the people in my class. That's why I'm class president again this year. I'm so excited to work with this guy from my last year together as he is now my vice president." said HikariAi to the chat.
[PixelRamen]: "Do you know him well?"
[Soft_Static]: "Do you like him?!"
Asked the chat in response.
"No, I don't really know him but I like meeting new people. We were in the same class last year but he is someone that doesn't really talk much in class. I'm a little surprised even, that he wanted to be elected for class president in the first place." said HikariAi and somehow left Ren feeling weird about what she said. It just sounds so familiar.
