Chapter 18:
Bio-Mage
“There's no strategy fighting this thing!”
The thought cut through Getsurin’s focus as cleanly as the creature’s fierce palm missed his eye. This is just his pure reaction, a desperate, exhausting dance where every step only bought another second to catch his breath.
“It’s either I brute force it, or come up with a way to trick the damn thing.” He desperately plotted, to then drive a series of calculated fists into the creature's abdomen. The impact shook his arms, accomplishing nothing. A massive leg flew toward his ribs, he quickly jumped backwards, the wind of the kick blowing against his face.
“Punch the hell out of it or stall.” He muttered, to dodge another fist from the creature. “Just like earlier, stalling forever isn’t an option.” Across the floor, it went still, watching him. The brief silence was worse than the violence.
The creature lunged again, a volcanic attack of pure destruction. Getsurin didn't just move, he folded himself sideways, almost falling over from the wind the attack made. Again cratering the floor. The movement was pure, wasteful instinct, burning his stamina he didn't have an endless supply of.
“There just has to be some kind of weakness.” He growled, then focused on the creature's eyes. “It must be getting drained of energy to some degree, considering that dozens of times it just looks at me… I just need to use that time to think of something!” He then studied the it, every section of its hideously dark body, for their eyes to meet once more.
“We haven’t tried the eyes yet.” He thought, to then scan the room for a strong and sharp object.
Without warning, the creature hurled its body to Getsurin, able to jump out of the way from the reckless strike. He made a calculated dive to grab a sharpened steel rod. “This should help a little.”
Getsurin thought out a plan, he then ran to the hole that it made as the creature readied itself, and slid into it to change to the sixth floor. He caught his breath for a moment, while he waited.
In seconds of silence, the creature jumped down the same hole with unfiltered aggression, making the hole wider. To then refocus on Getsturin in mere seconds, for it to instantly spring to Getsurin. However, exactly what he hoped, as he fell backward, bending his knees at a perfect ninety degrees. Needing only milliseconds to strike the creature. With it practically hovering over him, and the steel rod clutched to be launched upward directly to its face.
The creature flew right over him, as did the steel rod, Getsurin fell on his back, losing control of his arm from its speed over him. But he knew that the steel rod did something, it had to at least draw blood, it just had to be impaled in its eye!
“Damn! IT! This thing just doesn't have rules!” He yelled with frustration as the creature stood.
It then moved its head, as if it was confused. The steel rod was indeed inside its head. However, the rod was more stuck, resting in its eye socket. As if the creature grabbed it with its eye, of all things. The eye wasn’t bleeding or bloody, only shifted to its side, next to the steel rod.
The creature then realized that there was something in its eye, and casually plucked the rod from its eye. Just like someone would a loose eyelash, hardly an inconvenience for the thing.
Damn, damn, damn!
Getsurin screamed within himself, the hopelessness started to feel normal as he struggled. The creature once more started to walk to him, after it took several moments to gaze at the inevitable that it will have Getsurin’s eye. He could only feel the frustrated tenseness of his body, wanting to rage in every direction, but something finally clicked.
“Wait.”
“The fighting skills, Kay’s strength, Yuu’s arm, maybe…?” He schemed.
Getsurin then ran with increasing speed to the creature, with the belief that it does get exhausted to some extent, using that to his advantage. Nearly face to face with it, he saw that it started to move its arm, but with such accuracy that he could almost predict its movements as his Bio Mage eye can see and recognize the smallest of muscles twitch. It flung its arm forward to strike him, but he knew exactly when to dodge.
Getsurin then solidified his arm into a crimson iron and shot his arm into the jaw of the creature. Greatly confusing its balance. Seeing the opportunity, he then readied his own footing for a kick straight into its leg, forcing it to fall to the ground on its side. In that moment of the disabled thing, he widened his mouth for what he hoped would be an attack that creature was capable of. Unfortunately, he just stood there with his open mouth and zero strikes of bright light firing from him.
The creature found its footing once more without distraction. To again stare at Getsurin, as if it was saying ‘Give up.’ He suddenly had the taste of blood flood his mouth, but not the hopeful attack, not from an injury, but from his left eye. Blood started to slowly escape from his eye, and yet there was no pain. As if the desperation of the fight changed tears into blood.
“This can’t be right.” Getsurin thought, continuing to dodge the parade of attacks the creature had an endless supply of. “Why can I mimic the speed, but not—!” Just as he circled it, weaving with each of its attacks, he miscalculated the already tight space.
The seventh floor was much more open, while the rest were still cramped hotel rooms and halls. This caused Getsurin to lose his balance for a moment, but that was just enough for the creature to land a hit on him, and hit him hard. Getsurin, not only went through the wall, but three of them. Dazed, he tried his best to stand, but could only manage to get on one knee as it moved closer.
In the continued desperate moment, Getsurin attempted to jump away, but the creature simply stomped perfectly on his chest, forcing out all the air in his lungs. Trying to lift its foot off of him, he just shouted in frustration, trying to lift it. As he screamed and hollered, he then moved his right hand to stop it from getting closer, but this was still futile, the creature will have that eye.
The room he was trapped in suddenly shifted colors, from dim lamp lights to a deep shade of red. In the palm of Getsurin's right hand, a clear concentration of a black and blooded light was in the center. He grinned at the creature, and felt whatever it was to release the light in his palm.
Without reason, the same ray of light was created within Getsurin’s hand. The red light exploded in every direction, sending the creature away from him. He could only act on instinct and cover his head from the obvious disruption of falling debris that fell from the attack.
“That’s right!” He shouted, with the sense of some accomplishment.
Unfortunately, that quickly faded as the creature again stood up, rubble and debris sliding off it. Getsurin chuckled at the absurdity: Again, again, again, and again. Not even a scratch. He was now completely out of ideas and he had no clue if the team made it out of the hotel or not. He has to run, if to just distract it long enough to ensure that the others will make it to safety.
“That’s it then?” He laughed at the creature’s power.
Hopeless, Getsurin was already pinned to the ground in the hall, before he even realized that he had to run from the creature. It was more than ready to move towards its goal. The cold strength of its hand, firmly clasped around his neck. Smirking at it, as its hand moved to Getsurin’s eye, he could only slow the movements of its arm by grabbing on it. The air in his lungs began to sting, fighting to breathe. Blood pooled around his left eye, as he tried to fire another ray of light.
But nothing.
He had but one thought… Sorry, Mom… Sorry Kay, sorry everyone.
Smiling at the acceptance, that this invincible creature will be his end.
With the moments of his life fading. Everything felt overly loud: The nerves in his body screaming, the gleeful breaths of the creature, the rush of damaged water pipes, and electrical stricter chirping every second. So much noise, too much noise. Wanting just that to end, and end it did.
For it to end with—
A lone Cry of Ecstasy, one that eclipsed every single sound in the world.
“Surin!”
“I’m Unstoppable!”
