Chapter 22:

They try to buy a computer

Former Magical Girls and their Daily Lives

"Look, I know that I said that I'm not that good with technology", said Megumi as they entered the tech store, "But even I know that the usPhone is overrated. You would be better off using Wamsung or Wokia. Wokia phones are completely invincible. It's kinda weird. Scientists have brought it into their lab, and the phone is still intact. It withstood bullets, radiation, explosions, extreme cold and heat, and blunt forces. They tried to crush it with one of those big crushing machines, but the machine broke first. Honestly, it's a big mystery. They asked the people at Nokia, and all they got as a response was 'strong phone mean good'. They even put the phone into one of those particle accelerators, you know the ones that throw particles at each other at near light speed. The particles just bounced off of the phone. They thought of nuking the phone with a nuclear bomb, but they couldn't get approval from the government. However, people theorize that it'll be just fine."

"You know we are here for a computer, right?" Kasumi said.

"Yeah, but I wanted to rant about usPhone for a second."

"You literally ranted about Wokia. Anyway, what computer should we get?"

"As I said, I don't know much about computers. So, I guess we'll just have to see what works."

The girls went to the computer section of the store. There was a bunch of laptops on display, but someone went to all of the laptops and put on a video of a cat dancing. It was honestly quite impressive. All of the cats danced in sync.

"Guys," Megumi said, "Can we do something else today? I don't want to mess this up."

Megumi recorded the cats with her phone, trying to get a bunch of different angles to prove that it wasn't some video editing. However, this wouldn't prove much as it would be possible to just put a green screen on all of the computers and edit in the cats. Actually, I don't know how green screens work. Recording a green screen from a different angle may complicate stuff a lot. You might have to change the pictures repeatedly. However, it would still be possible. Moviemakers added the pictures on the computer screen since it was possible. Apparently, the camera can't capture the stuff on a computer screen easily, but that might just be old computer screens. Either way, it's possible to make a convincing fake computer screen.

"Are you done yet?" Kasumi asked.

"Just a little more... Okay, what do you want?"

"Which one should we get?"

"Are you sure that you want a laptop? Desktops get more bang for your buck, I believe. It would be more complicated I think. The laptop already comes with the screen and keyboard."

"Should we get a laptop?" Kasumi asked the rest of the Lemons.

"I don't know." Risa said "I could move it easily. The desktop sounds good, but I don't know. Why do we have to make this decision? Can't we just get both?"

"Getting both would mean being more expensive. It costs money to get both. Well, it also costs money to get one of them, but you get what I mean," Kasumi said.

"Hey," Megumi said, "What is your budget for this?"

"100,000 yen," said Kasumi, "Is that enough?"

"Well, I have no idea. I don't know the specific prices," Megumi said, "This one" She put her hand on one of the laptops, "is 102,000. But I don't know if that's the norm," She pointed at a different computer. "That one is 80,000. That one is 91,000. That one is 200,000. The price range is a lot. You might find something in the low 10,000s, but it probably won't be that good."

"What are the differences between the laptops?" Kasumi said.

"I have no idea. As I said, I'm not good with computers. I know the basics, but after that, I'm lost."

"Damn," Kasumi said, "Well, we might just have to talk to a sales representative."

The guy who worked at the store knew much more, but they didn't know if he was telling the truth or not. So, there wasn't much they could figure out. All they figured out was that 100,000 yen might not be enough for 3 good laptops or desktops. That should've been obvious, but it wasn't for them. Computers are expensive. They left without making a purchase.

"You know, I was expecting to spend a lot of money today, but I didn't spend anything. I feel like I have to buy something to justify my not buying of a computer." Risa said.

"Don't do it. That's how they get you," Kasumi said.

"I want to buy something," Risa said.

"No."

Megumi wondered if she should get a new computer. She did have the same computer for a while, but it works fine. She could get into more modern video games, but she didn't care too much about that. She was always a retro girl, but she could try new things. Nah, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
