Chapter 14:

Coven vs coven

Misfits of the Magic World

Brandishing her rope whip, Shoko launched an attack at Yabei. Yabei narrowly dodged, and began smacking what appeared to be a backpack on her back, sweat encasing her entire being.

"Yabai, yabai, yabai, yabai, YABAI! I can't get hit with that thing, otherwise I won't be able to use my pack! And if I get exposed... I GET EXPOSED... I CAN'T LET THAT HAPPEN!" Yabei frantically thought as thin metal arms suddenly sprang forth from her pack.

Everyone's attention shifted towards her.

"That thing... it doesn't look like a magical artifact, more like something out of a laboratory," Aino thought.

A sinister grin spread on Shoko's face. "Oh, what a gift basket. You're trying to use cybernetics against me? Seems my reputation as the "red rope" maiden has done it's job of hiding my trump card from the world at large," she thought as a minuscule bolt of lightning was flicked out of her finger towards Yabei's pack.

The covert attack landed without issue, however, something Shoko didn't expect occurred. Lightning began emanating from the pack, appearing to strengthen it, before things returned to normal.

Yabei nervously stared down at her bracelet. "L- Lightning magic!? Ah, was it a back attack!? What if someone knows about this and has water magic at the ready!? Ah, I need to be careful!" she thought.

Boom!

Everyone turned as an angry Yonson game flying towards them. "WHO FUCKING LAID TRAPS!? WAS IT YOU, DOKU!" he shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Calli, take care of the fodder," Doku nodded as he grabbed Calli and hurled her towards the oncoming Yonson.

"DOKU!" Calli yelled as she found herself soaring into the sky.

"STUPID! NOW I CAN KILL YOUR GIRL IN FRONT OF YOU!" Yonson cackled as he summoned a club of rock.

Calli narrowed her gaze, putting aside her anger towards Doku, as she assessed the distance between her and everyone. "I think this is high enough to avoid a big incident. Not like they'd be able to complain anyway thanks to the rules," she thought as she zeroed in on Yonson.

Yonson eagerly pulled his club back like a baseball bat, anticipating the moment he could treat Calli's head like a baseball bat.

"That's good, keep your mouth grinning and your arms pulled back. Solids can't hit gases," Calli thought as she grabbed her mask.

In that instant, all of Yonson's glee was replaced with fear. Though he thought of Calli as nothing more than trash, that didn't mean he wasn't aware of how deadly her magic was.

"SHIT! If I swing at her, I'll hit her, but get exposed to that nasty shit! I gotta defend!" Yonson thought as Calli removed her mask, unleashing a torrent of noxious green gas from her uncovered mouth.

Desperate, Yonson completely encased himself in stone, both cutting off his breathing, and sending him plummeting to the ground due to the weight increase. Unable to see or hear properly, his sense were completely off, and with his awkward pose thanks to being unable to stop his baseball-themed attack, he wasn't able to react properly when he approached the ground. And to make his day worse, he landed on a landmine, destroying his rock armor and sending him hurdling into a building.

Despite the beating, Yonson was still up. Staggering out into the open, bloodied and beaten, he saw Calli land a few feet away from him, toxic gas still flowing out of the corners of her mouth. To his surprise, a gas mask just so happened to be right at his feet.

"Hahaha! What bad luck for you! With this, I can use my stone armor and be fine around you!" Yonson laughed as he snatched the gas mask.

But no sooner did he put it on did his eyes begin to bulge. "Th- THIS IS! NGGGHHH!"

His skin going pale and his hair falling out rapidly, Yonson threw off the mask as fast as he could, but it was too late; he'd been directly exposed to Calli's toxins. Coughing up blood as he collapsed to the ground, he screamed in pain as Calli rushed towards him.

"Tch, an indirect kiss. At least I carry a spare with me," Calli grumbled as she kicked Yonson as hard as she could in the crotch, knocking him out for good and sending him flying back a few feet.

From afar, Himesan gritted her teeth as she watched a protective barrier encase Yonson before flying off with him in it. "That idiot. I thought he'd be the ace. Though we still have 4 standing. We just need to take out one of the three, and then we can hunker down until time expires," she thought.

Back on the playing field, Shoko scowled at Aino. "Thought you were gonna disarm the landmines!"

"That idiot moved too fast! But now, we shouldn't be bothered by them any more," Aino snarled as she finished constructing her spell.

She then launched a compressed ball of wind into the sky, with it slowly dispersing evenly across the entire playing field. The next thing everyone knew, Aino's voice was singing loudly throughout the area.

"On kauniina muistona Karjalan maa, mutta vieläkin syömmestä soinnahtaa, kun soittajan sormista kuulla saa, Säkkijärven polkkaa!"

"What the hell is that!?" Shoko cried.

"Säkkijärven polka, a song from my homeland with the power to disarm mines," Aino proudly huffed.

Doubtful, Shoko began whipping madly at the ground, yet nothing exploded. Yabei began to grow pale as she too confirmed her traps had been disarmed. But before anyone could make another move, the ground suddenly began to rumble.

"Oi, your song failed!" Shoko fumed as she struggled to maintain her balance.

"No, this is area wide... What on earth-"

BURST!

Aino didn't see the massive pillar of water coming, leading to a direct hit and another knock out. As her body flopped to the ground, Shoko turned to see the hole where the water had come from. There stood Umibozu, and behind him, Yurika.

"And the heroine is here. How we doing so far?" Yurika smirked.
