Chapter 15:
Poem_of_Death
We eventually made it back to Doctor Itu's study. On the way there I really felt the damage I had taken by the attacks of the yokai. My leg was munched away by the goddamn woman!
“Oh. You actually fought the Yamauba up there? Yeah, I should’ve warned you about that one… Oh well, you managed.” Miss Haruka told me on our way back… Well, thanks for that.
Like I said, we made it back to the study. Doctor Itu awaited us patiently and took the vial from Miss Haruka.
“Thank you very much, Mister Bankoku! Oh, and of course you too Miss Haruka!” He hurries and puts away the vial. Then he picks up one of the candles from the ground and hands it to Miss Haruka. “Miss Haruka, if you may!”
I sit down on the bed. Miss Haruka kneels down, positions the candle in front of my leg and blows the candle-fire against it. It does indeed feel warm and relaxing. It even tickles a little bit… Yup, I even laugh a bit. I can understand the kid from before.
“Well, well, well! Now then, dear Mister Bankoku. I thank you very much, I really do! You did a great job.”
“He even killed the Yamauba on top of the mountain.”
“You did?” The doctor looks at me with a great smile. “Woah! Lady Death must really have granted you a pretty useful blessing… How did it go?”
I stare a bit into the void. I don’t really understand myself. I know what happened up there… But comparing the man on the mountain, slaying 10 out of 11 Yokai, to the man that is sitting on the bed right here, right now… They hardly feel similar, much less the same.
“I… killed the Tengu and the woman… I do not really understand how, but I know I did.” I stare at my hands, still filled with blood. I was just overall covered in blood. This probably looked disturbing for the other students and people in the academy, but I was in the company of the nurse so it probably makes sense…
“Okay, you should probably go wash yourself.” Miss Haruka looks at me and holds her nose. “You smell… Also, you've been wearing these clothes since yesterday, haven't you?”
I nod.
“I will bring you the school uniform. Just wait a second, I’ll be there in a few moments.”
I nod and leave. I go to Room 13, open the door and see the dorm I am already familiar with. I lay down my blade and kick it beneath my bed. It's nothing people have to see. I then slowly take off my clothes, though I keep my pants on for just a little while longer. After a few moments it knocks on the door. As I open it, I look directly into Miss Haruka’s face. She slides past me, right inside of my room. She lays down a uniform on my bed.
“This one should fit you. Also-” She placed a clock on my bed. “This is an alarm clock. So don't oversleep tomorrow. You should really go to class… It’s also a better alternative than doing jobs for Itu again… Also, put your dirty clothes into the laundry basket. Okay, good night.”
I slowly nod, - “Good night.” - bow and then she leaves. After she left the room I fully undress and walk into the bathroom I had discovered last night. There I jump into the shower and begin washing myself.
The blood poured down my body. Only now do I realize just how much blood I have gathered… It is truly disgusting. Even before today I was full of blood due to the Ushitora and the massacre of my village. I have worried about being seen with a sword, but the blood covering me was way worse if we are being honest. Well, luckily only Doctor Itu saw me… Who made me turn out even more bloody.
Anyway: Washing off all the blood makes me feel better, at least a little bit.
I finish washing and step out of the shower. There, I look at myself in the mirror. My hair, which was originally pure white, has some red aspects. Those just did not come off… and I do not know why. I really don’t.
It does look a bit cool though… Well, whatever. I really have other problems right now.
As I walk back into the bedroom part of my dorm and pick up the uniform, I observe it. It is basically just a white shirt with black pants… Eh, whatever.
I lay the uniform down somewhere else and go to bed. Even if it is relatively early, today was exhausting. Before I sleep I set my alarm for tomorrow though.
