Chapter 16:

Chapter 16

Poem_of_Death

The alarm wakes me up. I don’t remember what I dreamt about this night, but I am fairly certain that I dreamt of something. I’m pretty sure you dream every night, but you just never remember them… Anyways, the alarm wakes me up and I hate it. I should have just not set it. I would have skipped school yet again, yes, but who even cares. I have no idea what the lessons would teach me, if they teach me anything that is. But all right: The alarm already woke me up, didn’t it? Might as well go to class now.

I dress myself. The uniform feels kind of modern and too big. It’s comfortable though. I ruffle a bit through my own hair and look at myself in the mirror. I decided to leave my sword behind, just for today.

First lesson: Medicine.

As I come into class, most seats are already taken. Miss Haruka stands in front of the class. She really was responsible for those classes… Makes sense. Despite both her and Doctor Itu being strange and being focused on medicine, I can’t think of a world where Doctor Itu would be able to easily talk to a class and teach them without coming across as eerie. Miss Haruka on the other hand is different: She was weird in her own way, but not in an eerie way. You just get this kind of aura that she is pissed off by everything, however she also does get everything over with… Yup.

Before class started Miss Haruka called me.

“Okay, everyone… You’ve got a new peer.”

While looking at the class I saw a variety of faces. Without me, there were 12 students. From those 12 I already knew three: Aki and Aomade, the two students I had talked to the day before yesterday. There was also Hibiki, the girl that was navigating the carriage on that same day. I only saw her shortly and only knew her name due to the other two, but it's fine I guess. The remaining 9 were unknown to me… No, that is not true either. I remember the guy who was hurt yesterday.

“Introduce yourself.” Miss Haruka is pretty pissed off, but that is nothing new. I don’t think I*ll mention it from now on, as it seems pretty obvious.

“Uhh… My name is Isuri Bankoku.” I bow. “Nice to meet you. I hope we will… uh… get along well.” While this introduction does feel a bit lackluster, I don’t really have more to say to my peers. Well, at least I’m not wearing a weapon or am covered in blood anymore.

Miss Haruka tells me to sit down somewhere. So, I walk across the classroom and sit down on one of the many empty chairs. To be honest, I expected there to be more people. Hanebana made it seem as though this academy was really great and prestigious, but there weren’t even that many people in this class… Besides that, I actually think there is only this class.

Next to me sits a girl with tan skin, a little fang pointing out of her mouth which is way more present than any other of hers and smooth white hair. Her blue eyes look at me, kind of excited, kind of mischievous. She is muscular, far more than me that is. Not that being more muscular than me would be that big of a challenge.

“What’s good, Isuri? I’m Kida Nezuki.” She gives me a fist bump.

“Uh… not much. Nice to meet you.” I slowly nod. Class starts and Miss Haruka begins talking: She talks about the anatomy of the human body and what parts one has to look out for.

“There are many spots you know are easily damaged: Eyes, throat, nose…”

“hey.”

and so on. Basically each part of your body in your head-area can easily be damaged: Avoid getting hit there and instead…”

“Hey!”

“...try to defend yourself by using your arms or the rest of your body. Healing is way-”

“Hey! Isuri!

I look to the right. Kida Nezuki smiles at me.

“Uh… yeah, what is it?”

“You got any plans later?”

“Uhm… No.”

“Aight, you’ll join me and my gang then.”

“Who are you calling your gang?” The boy in front of her turns around. He has uncontrollable, short blonde hair, a small scar beneath his left eye, and wears an eyepatch which covers his right eye.

“Oh! That’s Muraoka Minoru, one of my gang’s members!”

“There is no such thing as your gang!”

Kida Nezuki grins as she is teasing the boy in front of her. I think both of them are a bit older than I am.

“Uhh… Weird question, but are there other students on this Academy than the ones here?”

I ask the two of them the question I’ve had for quite some time. Muraoka Minoru looks at me for a second and then nods. “Yup. The 12 of us- sorry, 13 with you - are the only students currently in this school.”

Huh. Okay, so I was right. “Why is that?”

This time Kida Nezuki is the one to answer: “Well, this school IS pretty special… There aren’t many Academies that try to teach and train Blessed. And the few that do exist are mostly pretty bad in themselves… Also, this school's location in the capital of Japan is pretty great as well. Oh, and by graduating from here you can easily join the upper ranks of the military. I myself come from pretty far away! But due to this school being the only of its kind I came to this very town to live and train at this very school!”

I did not know this school was even half as prestigious as my classmate had just described to me. For me to easily enter and join was a privilege I did not know I had… But I did and still do! Maybe I should be more grateful instead of skipping class.
