Chapter 19:

Chapter 19

Poem_of_Death

When we came back to the other students, Gym-Class was already in session. My peers are currently running around the track that is surrounding the training grounds. There, on the side of the track, is a pretty high chair. On top of it sits a pretty muscular man in a tanktop, his thick black eyebrows resting atop his eyes as he carefully watches the students run in a loop. As he sees us, he begins yelling.

“Nezuki! Come and dress up! Time to get running!”
She quickly nods, then she runs to some small building nearby. I still stand there, flabbergasted. The teacher who is wearing shorts and a short t-shirt - just like all of the male students are - jumps down from his chair and crashes into the ground. From there he looks at me and jumps towards me with a giant leap. When his feet meet the ground he instantly begins sprinting and rushes toward me. In the very next moment he stand right before me. He must be over 2 meters tall. His bald head reflects the sun as the looks down on me with a broad grin which makes me think this guy is some kind of machoist.

“Do tell me, what is your deal here, huh?! Are you that Bankoku Kid, huh?!”

His voice is pretty overwhelming. It is loud and while he does scream at me, it doesn’t really come across as rude. I wholeheartedly believe that his voice is just loud as hell.

“Uh… Yes, sir!” I bow quickly. “My name is Isuri Bankoku! I am a new student and I will from now on attend this Academy!” The man looks at me for a split second, then he wrinkles his nose.

“Very well! Do you have Gym-clothes already?”
“Uhm… No, I don’t.”

“Hah! Well, don’t worry about it.” He points to the building Kida just entered. “There are some changing rooms. Inside the boys changing room are some uniforms. Just take one.”

I nod, then bow, then go towards the building. I don’t really want to run around the track, but oh well. This is class, after all. I don’t want to skip even more, especially after talking with Kida throughout all of Medicine Class.

I enter the building and it instantly splits off into two separate changing rooms: Male and female. I obviously enter the male one and soon enough find some uniforms: Shorts and a short t-shirt. I look at it, kind of anxiously, and begin changing. I take off my normal uniform and put it inside of a locker, then I exit the building. Just as I go outside I see Kida, who is wearing more or less the same uniform.

“Aight. Time to run some laps.”
After she said those words the two of us start running. After around 5 minutes I notice just how exhausted I am. I pant a bit and look at Kida who can easily keep going.

“Can’t go on already? Come on, that’s way too weak…”

“I’m… not used to running.”

“Well, then this is good. Just go on, only through pain can you really grow… That’s what Mister Kazuki says at least.”

“Mister… Kazuki?” I now pant between each word. I can’t go on at all.

“Yup, that’s what our gym teacher is called. Ah, did you know that each of the six teachers is actually specialized on one of the six blessings?”

I don’t answer but instead shake my head weakly.

“Okay, so we got Mister Kazuki here, our Gym-class teacher. His blessing is light. Mister Hideo from earlier is Blessed by none other than Love. He is the teacher for Blessing - Theory… But that’s a pretty rare subject. We only have it once a week. Miss Hanebana - you said you know her, right? - is blessed by Darkness. She is the teacher for Blessing Praxis. Then we’ve got Miss Cho, who is responsible for the Weapons class. She is blessed by Time. Miss Masuyo - the Headmaster - she doesn’t really teach - resembles the blessing of Fate. Miss Haruka is a special case. She is actually blessed by Light as well, but that’s because she isn’t the actual expert in Medicine. The actual teacher should be Doctor Itu… But he’s too lazy and makes poor Miss Haruka do all the work. Anyways, Doctor Itu is blessed by Death… Which is actually crazy, if you think about it. I know it’s kind of hard for you to imagine since you are blessed by Death yourself, but that’s like… super rare. You might be the first person since Itu who is actually blessed by Death. And Itu was blessed like… 50 or 60 years ago.”
“He’s that old?!”

I was originally going to let her keep talking… Like I said, running is exhausting on it’s own. If I now add talking, I will genuinely break. Oh, also: How the hell can Kida talk that much while running?! Is this the result of Mister Kazuki’s training?!

“Yup, he is… At least he says so. Doesn’t look that old, does he?”

I just nod. Then again, he also said that it was him who designed the nurse uniform which was a blatant lie. If he actually was - let’s say, just as an example - 70, then that still wouldn’t check out and thus be a blatant lie. In other words; Doctor Itu was probably talking smack when talking about his own age.
