Prologue

In Boston, Massachusetts, there lives a family of witches, known as the Broadstone family. Present since America's colonial days, they've long played a part in influencing things from the shadows. Having extended life-spans compared to normal humans, they both age slower and have born witness to many of America's and the world's events. Headed by an ancient matriarch, the family has long been under stable rule, yet some within the family pine for succession, notably the current matriarch's daughter, Agatha Broadstone.

Though primarily a matriarchy, males are born into the family, with their status being reduced mainly to that of magic conduits and/or vehicles for political marriages to strengthen the family's line and influence. One notable connection is to a popular US senator, who currently is the big favorite to become the next American president...
