Chapter 21:

Onwards to the Second Mission... An Onsen Trip?

The Otaku Mage

“We are really going on an Onsen trip?”, Hinako asked excited, while boarding the Shinkansen.

“We’re going to work…”, Kuro corrected, while looking for their reserved seats.

“At an Onsen resort?”

“Yes…”

“So, it’s an Onsen trip?”

“Work…”

“Will we sit in steamy hot water?”

“Probably…”

“So, it’s an Onsen trip! Don’t tell me it isn’t!”

Kuro shrugged and finally found their reserved seats.

“Here, you can have the window seat…”, He casually offered.

“Huh? You think I’m a child?”, Hinako asked a bit offended.

“You want it, or not?”

Hinako bit her lip and wrinkled her nose a bit, before she shuffled past him.

“Yes, thank you…”, She whispered quietly.

Kuro said nothing, put their bags up in the overhead compartment and sat down as well. The Shinkansen started moving soon after. Kuro had to snicker a bit, seen Hinako look out of the window with big, childlike eyes. She turned and looked at him.

“What?”, Hinako asked furrowing her brows.

“Nothing… Wake me up, when we arrive.”, Kuro said curtly and closed his eyes.

He fell asleep fairly quickly. Something brushing against his nose woke him up. Kuro opened his eyes a bit and stared directly into the eyes of the ninja on Hinako’s shirt. He was a bit confused, why she was currently half straddling him and stretching upwards, but the Shinkansen jolted slightly, before he could say something. The slight movement of the train was enough to throw Hinako off balance and she fell forwards, right onto him. Kuro felt something squishy against his face and quickly closed his eyes again.

“Shit…”, Hinako mumbled.

Kuro felt her sitting down in his lap, but to his surprise and confusion, she wasn’t getting up again.

“You’re awake, aren’t you?”, She asked sheepishly.

Kuro opened his eyes and stared directly into her face. She was slightly blushing.

“What are you doing?”, He asked.

“Giving you some fanservice, like in all the manga books you read. How did you like it?”, She answered cheekily.

“And what were you really doing?”

Hinako looked a bit disappointed and the red left her cheeks.

“I… was getting some snacks…”, She admitted.

Hinako pulled a bag of Choky chocolate snacks from behind her back.

“Want some?”, She said and held the open package in front of him.

Kuro went to grab one of the chocolate-covered biscuit sticks, but Hinako pulled them away. He looked at her confused.

“I have a better idea! I read that in a manga!”, Hinako mention with a mischievous smile.

She then took one of the snack sticks and put it in her mouth. Hinako then leaned forward so that the other end was right in front of Kuro.

“Here you go…”, She mumbled a bit, because of the stick in her mouth.

Kuro slowly bit into the end on his side. Their eyes locked, Hinako took a bit and inched closer, then Kuro. Bite by bite their faces got closer and closer to each other. Soon they were moments from touching their nose, but none had yet yielded eye contact. Kuro slightly titled his head, so that the tips won’t touch and took another bite. The side of his nose slightly brushed Hinako’s. Like this he remained. Hinako still looked him in the eyes, but hesitated. She could feel his breath, so close he was to her. The sudden beep of the train announcement made her jump, and she broke what was left of the Choky between them. Hinako averted her eyes quickly.

“We will be arriving in Odawara momentarily. The exit will be to the right. Please take care when leaving the train.”, The announcement voice said.

“Can you get off of me now, kid? We have to get off the train.”, Kuro asked after quickly swallowing the chocolate snack.

Hinako glared at him, with her ears and cheeks red.

“Stop calling me kid! I’m not a child!”, she protested, not moving.

“Yeah… whatever…”, Kuro replied casually.

He then just casually picked her up by the waist and lifted Hinako off of him.

“Okay, okay! I get it, old man!”, She snapped at him and got off. She grabbed her backpack from the overhead compartment. Kuro watched her storm off to the exit. He closed his eyes and breathed deep a few times calming his racing heart. When Kuro opened his eyes again, he noticed that the other passengers giving him some weird looks. He quickly got up, grabbed his backpack and followed Hinako. Moments later arrived at the station and got off the Shinkansen. Hinako stormed off without looking back and Kuro followed. Down in the station hall she hesitantly looked around and went in one direction first and the other next. Hinako then let out a frustrated sigh and turned around to Kuro, still just following her.

“What’s wrong, kid? Are you lost?”, He asked with a smirk.

“Shut up, old man!... Where to...?”, Hinako snapped back.

Kuro now took the lead and went to one of the exits. Outside they went to a bus stop and a few minutes later, they sat side by side inside a bus, driving into the direction of Hakone.
