Chapter 3:

Then The DEAD Awaken

The Land of Maidens and Corpses (Original)

That shouldn't be possible? I was sure that I was unconscious and this was all a dream. Yes, I was in a dream and I was aware of it. But the metallic object touching my forehead was just as real. I could feel it.

Once more I banged my head into it again. I wasn't moving my head, however, my body continued to move. I didn't have any control over its movements, but I could tell that it was moving.

If I was unconscious, how was my body still moving though? And I shouldn't be able to sense anything unless I was awake. . .

So, I wasn't dreaming after all. . .

The wiggling from earlier wasn't my imagination either then. . .

Again, my head banged into the metallic object in front of me.

Oh, would you stop already!

I felt it. My body obeyed the order immediately. It froze and stopped for a moment. Upon, not hearing another order it continued to bang my head.

This is useless. I can't see what it's looking at or what it's banging into. I don't even know why it's doing it!

I lay there in the void. The little amount of hope I had, had been given up. There was nothing I could do, but wait till I woke up, however much time that was.

At that moment, a thought crossed my mind. Sometimes, I would wake up randomly in the middle of the night. There was a certain reason for that. The only thing I could remember from the moments before, was the sensation of falling. If, by chance, my body would stumble or fall, would I immediately wake up?

There was a certain risk at this. It could be that the reason I currently was in this dreamlike state, was because of some medical drug. If I was currently being drugged to remain unconscious, due to a surgery or something similar at the hospital, was it then a smart choice to attempt to wake up? Probably not.

Clank. The pain was getting worse in my forehead.

I can't take it anymore, and if I don't wake up soon, I'll probably get brain damage from this. Screw it. I'll just have to try. No matter what is on the other end, I'll just have to wake up now. Besides, I know you can see me. You're testing me, right? To see if I can wake up or not? Well, here goes nothing.

Stop! The banging stopped, and I felt the sensation of my body standing still. I tried to take a deep breath, but I don't know if it worked or not. Now. . . Lean backwards slowly. I felt my legs, losing ground as the sudden sensation of feeling overcame me. Only for a moment, I felt it. The sensation of my soul loosening from my body. It was attempting to fly away. I don't know where it wanted to go, but I didn't try and stop it.

However, like I said, it was only for a moment. Suddenly my body hit the hard ground, and shocked, I gasped as the pain returned. The light entered my eyes again, as I was blinded by the sun, and all my sensations came back to me.

I was so caught up in that euphoric feeling, that I hadn't even bothered paying attention to my surroundings.

It had only been for that moment, but I had suddenly felt it. Something so many people feared. I was so close. . . I had nearly passed away.
