Chapter 735: The Mutant Trap

Back with Kurt, Emily, Joe, Pearl, Laila, Herbie, Dusk, and Lavana in the Tyrant Alternate Universe.

They rush through a twisting hallway as the mighty mutant Harmona chases them. The mutant roars, refusing to back down.

“Will this thing ever get tired!?” Joe shouts, turning his head to look back at it.

“I think it’s more likely that we will grow tired first!” Kurt replies. “We have to think of some way to stop it!”

“This is a vertical chamber!” Laila calls out. “We need to get it down while we continue up.”

“Great idea!” Herbie acknowledges. “But how the hell are we going to do that!?”

“Use your brain for once!” Dusk criticizes. “This mutant has no intelligence so we can easily outsmart it! But I guess you’re the same way so maybe you don’t have a brain!”

“You damn bas—!” Herbie starts to yell before Lavana interrupts him, screaming, “I told you both to shut up!!!”

“That’s great and all, Dusk, but this thing isn’t going to give us even a moment to set up any kind of trick or trap!” Emily shouts.

“If only Sandy was here,” Kurt mutters to himself.

Emily turns her head toward Kurt. “What you mean is ‘If only Sandy was still alive.’ She’s been dead for 14,000 years, Kurt. Why think about her in this crucial situation!?”

Kurt shakes his head. “Sorry.” He turns his head toward Emily. “What we need are a couple volunteers for a distraction.”

Dusk grins. “I legitimately feel Herbie would be the perfect fit for a distraction. He’s such a weasel, he could avoid anything.

Before Herbie can reply in anger, Lavana speaks up first with a grin. “Alright, Dusk, how about you join him?”

“Huh!? Me!?”

“Yes, you. Anyone else disagree?”

“Nope,” Emily, Kurt, Joe, Pearl, and Laila say in unison.

Dusk sighs. “Fine.”

The mutant zombie suddenly charges with a faster speed, catching up.

“It’s gaining on us!” Joe yells.

“We have to start now!” Pearl adds.

“We’re coming up on another central room!” Kurt shouts. “Herbie! Dusk! Do your thing!”

Herbie and Dusk charge their magic energy.

“Shroud!” Dusk shouts.

“Plant Wall!” Herbie shouts at the same time.

A cloud of darkness forms behind them, and a line of large plants walls off the path within the darkness.

Once the mutant runs into the dark cloud, Herbie’s plants strike, wrapping around the mutant’s entire body. The plants successfully halt the mutant in its path. Its angry roar is somewhat muffed by the plant wrapped around its head. However, it only takes a few moments for the mutant to break free, overpowering the plants with its pure physical strength.

The shroud dissipates but the heroes are no longer in its line of sight. It turns its head multiple times, but all there is to its left and right are walls. It roars, flailing about wildly. Its powerful arms slam into the wall, destroying them easily. Even with the new paths revealed by the destroyed walls, it still does not see a single hero, increasing its anger. It starts continuing its run through the twisting and elevating hallway, but Herbie’s voice interrupts it.

“Hey, you big freak using a goddess’s body! Over here!”

The mutant stops, turning its head back into the room revealed by the destroyed walls. Herbie and Dusk stand in there, smirking.

“We’re right here,” Dusk says.

Herbie sticks out his tongue, mocking it. “You gotta do better than that to get us.”

The mutant charges into the room, roaring. It once again flails its arms, trying to smash Herbie and Dusk. They continuously dodge out of the way of its attacks.

Dusk, feeling the pressure, clenches his teeth as he thinks, “Come on guys, hurry up! We can’t dodge these rampaging attacks forever!”

As they dodge, the mutant’s arms destroy objects around the room, scattering pieces of debris. Dusk, landing on a piece of debris that causes him to slip, fails to gain his footing and starts falling to the floor. His eyes widen as he is completely open for an attack, which the mutant slams its fist downward. A plant grows from the floor and pushes Dusk out of the way, just barely saving him. The mutant’s fist blows a hole in the floor.

“Don’t ever say I haven’t done anything for you, you ungrateful bastard!” Herbie yells.

“Yeah, yeah.” Dusk reluctantly acknowledges.

Kurt’s voice echoes through the twisting hallway into the room they are distracting the mutant in. “We’re ready!”

“That’s our cue!” Herbie says enthusiastically.

“Let’s hurry!” Dusk adds.

They rush back into the twisting hallway, and the mutant gives chase. It’s not long before they reach the circular room as part of the vertical tube-shaped chamber. Lavana is crouched, hands on the floor. Joe, Kurt, Emily, Pearl, and Laila stand behind her.

“Jump over me!” Lavana commands.

“Got it!” Dusk and Herbie shout in unison.

They do as she says, jumping over her and the other heroes as the mutant runs into a large circle with glowing lava lines as its outline.

“Take a deep dive, buddy!” Lavana yells as the lava flares, destroying the floor within the circle. The mutant falls into the hole all the way many floors down to the bottom of the tube-shaped chamber where the heroes first started their ascent.

Lavana stands with a grin of satisfaction.

“Great job, everyone,” Kurt says. “We don’t know how fast it can get back up here so let’s get out of here as fast as possible.”

The mutant’s roar echoes from down below as the heroes head toward the exit.

Soon after.

The heroes reach the outside, finally getting a look at the Tyrant Alternate Universe. They discover what Harmona, Zaydra, and Keith discovered previously: a disgusting green sky, a barren wasteland, and a city in the distance.

“This is Earth in an alternate universe!?” Emily exclaims.

“Yeah, one fit for a tyrant,” Joe adds, visible disgust on his face. “Let’s just call this the Tyrant Alternate Universe.”

“It’s so awful compared to our Earth,” Laila laments.

“Lady Harmona would never let the planet fall into this pitiful state,” Pearl adds.

“Let’s not spend too much time thinking about it,” Kurt suggests. “Our priority should be finding a way back to our universe.”

“I have a feeling we won’t be going anywhere without defeating the tyrant counterparts of Zeth and Sasha. We don’t even know where our Zeth and Sasha were sent to.”

Kurt gazes out into the distance. “The only thing notable out there is the city. We’re going there.”

Having escaped from the mutant zombie, the heroes set their sights on the same city Harmona, Zaydra, and Keith already went to.
