Chapter 41:
The Otaku Mage
Kuro sat on the floor watching an anime episode on his phone and waited for the cocoon to open. He regularly looked up to see how far the cracks had reached. They nearly were all the way to the top. He turned his attention back to the anime. With his free hand he took the cereal bar out and opened the pack with his mouth. Kuro bit into it without looking at it. As he chewed, he paused suddenly and looked at the bar.
“A bit of extra fuel, huh? I see…”, Kuro mumbled with his mouth full.
It was one of Blaze’s special cereal bars infused with magical energy to quickly restore one’s reserves. Chocolate and Caramel flavor. It wasn’t like Kuro needed a refill at that time, he had conserved his energy during the previous fighting, but it tasted really good. He heard an ominous crackling and looked up. The cracks had reached all the way to the top, and the cocoon began to crumble. Kuro looked over his shoulder.
“Not yet, huh…”, he mumbled and took another bite of the cereal bar.
The cocoon was now completely crumbled off and laid bare a big black oval with green edges. Green lettering ran along the edges. Kuro quickly gave it a quick look and read something about Darkness, shadow and despair. He shrugged and went back to watch his anime. There were seven minutes left in the episode. The gateway began to pulse and the green lettering spiraled into the middle of it. The demonic scripture began to glow more intensely as something began to protrude from the blackness of the gateway. Fingers at first, growing longer and longer until it was a whole hand, then came the forearm. The circling green lettering expanded again as the elbow appeared. Now something began to come out from the darkness under the arm. It was a foot, then a knee, followed by the whole leg. The gateway began to pulse stronger as the whole body began to appear. Then manifested the head. It didn’t take long after that for the whole body to appear. It was humanoid shaped but had two long horns growing on its head that spiraled inwards. Another unusual feature was the yellow glowing eyes with the vertically oriented pupils. They looked a bit like a long bar with four squares inserted into them with two of their corners pointed horizontally outward. The creature’s skin was scaly and pale.
“AAAAAHHHHHHH”, it groaned with a rattling voice and its nostrils flared up.
The gateway behind it collapsed slowly as the creature slowly floated to the ground. It was completely gone, as the archdemon touched the concrete. The creature blinked with his strange reptilian eyes and looked around. It saw all the dead cultists and demons on the ground. It finally spotted Kuro still sitting on the ground staring at his phone, eating the last bit of the cereal bar. The archdemon blinked again.
“I had hoped my long-awaited entrance would be a bit more gra-“, It said with its metallic rattling voice.
“SSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”, Kuro interrupted it while placing the index finger of his, now free, hand on his lips and gave it an annoyed look. “Can’t you see I’m watching something here? Give me like four minutes, then the episode is over.”
The archdemon blinked, confused and shocked about the impudence of that human before him.
“How dare you talk to me like this, vermin? I am the great Mor-“, It stated.
“You’re not looking that great to me… what are you… like two ten? Two thirty? Two forty max…”, Kuro interrupted it again giving a quick up and down look.
The archdemons nostril flared up with rage. It extended its arm. Four ovals appeared around his wrist and shadowy tendril shot out from them crashing on the ground where Kuro sat.
“That’s what you get for being such an insolent imbe-“, The archdemon said with satisfaction.
“Three minutes! Three minutes left. You can behave for three minutes, can’t you? You’re a big demon boy, right?”, Kuro interrupted him, now sitting to his right in a new place.
The archdemon growled with anger and shot his next tendril barrage at him.
“Watch the tone you’re talking to me, you lowly hu-“, It demanded
“Oi! Do I have to call your demon mommy and tell her she has to pick up her big demon child from the playground, because it could not wait it’s turn to play?”, Kuro interrupted again, this time sitting on its left.
Enraged, the archdemon now extended both his arms and shot double the amount of tendrils at him.
“Two more minutes… come on you can do it… nearly there!”, Kuro said, now sitting behind it.
The arch demon growled again.
“Enough!”, it rumbled and shot tendrils out in every direction with an radius of twenty meters.
“That’s my line! One Minute! Com…. Woah, dud you look even smaller from up here… Are you sure you are an Archdemon?”, Kuro said from up above, sitting on a small pillar he had anchored on the nearby building.
The archdemon held up his arms and all of the tendrils on the floor level shot up in the sky.
“Missed me!”, Kuro said without looking up from his phone a bit further away.
He was a bit surprised about himself about how cheeky he was just now… He had a good inkling on what put him in this jolly good mood. His cheeks blushed a bit as he thought about the most probable reason. The archdemon attacked again, but Kuro just switched to another place again. Suddenly countless pillars of light shot out in the sky in three-kilometer distances, leaving regular spaces between. The archdemon watched as the light pillars slowly got connected with a wall of light, first on the sides then on top. A few moments later they were encased on all sides. Kuro finally got up and put his phone in his pocket. He began to stretch a bit.
“Finally getting serious, Human?” The archdemon growled.
“Yeah, lemme just do some stretches… it really important to do those, even before a light workout. Especially when you get older… How is that for you demons, by the way? Aren’t you guys ancient? How’s the arthritis treating you?”, Kuro said casually.
The archdemon extended his arm again and the tendrils shot out again. This time Kuro did not dodge, he just swatted the tendrils away. The archdemon’s nostril flared with rage again.
“How does it feel by the way?”, It sneered.
“What? Arthritis? Oi, I’m not that old yet!”, Kuro snarked back.
“No, the despair of getting abandoned by your fellow humans. Look they locked you in here with me, only to get eventually killed by me!”
Kuro began to laugh.
“You did not just say that did you? Do I really have to say it now?”, he said and scratched his head.” Ah, yeah fuck it, I’m saying it!”
The Archdemons eyes blinked confused as Kuro closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He opened them again and they glowed slightly.
“I think you’re mistaken about something … I’m not locked in here with you…”, Kuro said with a dead serious voice and disappeared, only to reappear a moment later next to the archdemon, “You are locked in here with me!”
He kicked the archdemon into the side, which made it fly through the air and crash into one of the buildings on the side, destroying part of the wall.
“ENOUGH! I HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR IMPUDENCE!!”, it roared and emerged from the building. The demon suddenly grew in size, because his lower body sprouted shadowy tendrils.
“Ah finally getting serious, eh? Good, then I will too… You don’t mind if we end this quickly, right? I do have something to return to… or rather someone!”, Kuro said and took a deep breath.
In the next moment his eyes, glowed purple, ten purple spheres appeared circling around his body and purplish lighting crackled between them, his body and the ground around him. He extended his arms and the spheres circled in front of him at the same time as the Archdemon reared up.
“I AM MORTHOS THE ASPECT OF SHADOW AND DESPAIR AND I WILL RULE THIS WORLD!”, Morthos thundered.
“I am Kuro The Otaku Mage and I will fulfill my promise I gave one of your followers and send you right after her!”, Kuro rumbled.
A coiling mass of tendrils shot towards Kuro and a big beam of purple magic energy shot towards Morthos. The two attacks met in the middle and a huge detonation shook the ground.
