Chapter 24:

Chapter 24: The Lady of Illusions.

Knights of Vein

When Baron approached Anna's body, he wondered why she had done it.

Helena was at the orphanage with the children and was informed about what had happened to her mistress.

Very distraught by the recent events, Helena went to her room and asked not to be disturbed.

Gray, in his office, converses with a mysterious person.

Gray: -You could take it easy, couldn't you? You already got what you wanted with the Lith, killing Anna wasn't a bit sudden?

Lady of Illusions: -No, that damned woman deserved it for the slap she gave me in the face, and only call me "you" when you called me Irineia.

Gray: -Yes, forgive me, it was just habit.

Irineia leaves the room and goes to meet Alphonse.

That day there was no funeral, no honors, they only said that Anna had committed suicide due to the pressure of the recent battles.

At the forge, Harpya carries Isz to a cave far from the city and is informed by the Lightning Beast that they would stay there for about 3 months before leaving; it was the safest place at the moment.

Harpya hides the golden sword and asks about the Beast's plan to escape Vein.

Lightning Beast: -The plan is similar to yours, we're just staying here because the supernatural presence is strong on the old path you would have taken.

Harpya: -I understand, can I send letters to someone who lives in Volny?

Lightning Beast: -You can, but I recommend you stay silent for a while, so they'll think you're both dead.

Harpya agrees and obeys the order. The Silent Voice says that everything will be alright for Harpya and that they will soon leave that place.

A month passed after all the chaos. The city, with its few inhabitants, was recovering. Helena was no longer a knight of Vein, but she continued to provide services to the orphanage.

It was a place where she was happy to help and remember the old times. She was recovering mentally, but the fear of a new attack was great.

The alchemists became very famous after helping the people who needed their enchantments. Gray also gained much fame and trust.

Helena noticed that Nina seemed frightened and maintained a kind of intimacy with Gray.

That night, Helena overheard a conversation between them about how what Nina did to the children wasn't wrong and that they were about to usher in a new era.

Nina leaves Gray's room with a strange expression, and Helena asks if she's alright.

Nina says, somewhat confused, that she helped destroy Vein and that now she's expecting the demon's child.

Nina gives a strange laugh and asks Helena why she fell for that manipulation, then goes to vomit in the bathroom.

Helena is confused and wonders what happened to make Nina act that way.

Baron talks to Helena about leaving somewhere, but Helena refuses, saying that this was her home, even with the events and tragedies.

Baron says he's thinking of taking the orphans with him, but Helena says it's better for them to stay there.

For a moment things seemed calm, but in the early morning, Helena gets up to get a drink of water. She sees a silhouette hanging, and getting closer, it's Nina's hanged body with her diary in her pocket.
