Chapter 2:

Chapter 2: An Insanely Paranormal Photo

LOOKING, but not SEEING

A certain video, uploaded to a video streaming site.

“Hey everyone, it’s Yukinari! Today I found an insanely paranormal photo, so I’m gonna show it to you!
And here it is!”

The photograph filled the entire screen.

“A twin-tailed girl jumping, and a girl with long black hair who looks a little scared…
Is this a test of courage or something? The building’s pretty run-down.
And the first thing that jumps out at you is the sheer number of these orbs! That’s insane!
Do they ever show up this much? This is seriously the most I’ve ever seen!
And then, down by their feet—there are a ton of white hands.
Uh, you know that ghost story where hands come out of the sea?
That’s what it reminded me of.
And a bit above the two of them… there’s, like, this white, hazy stuff.
What even is that? I dunno, but it’s super creepy.
And right behind this black-haired girl—hard to see, but—
doesn’t it look like there’s someone else… there?
I mean, this is just too much!
Everything’s messed up—this is the craziest one yet!”

But lacking any spiritual sensitivity, and having merely picked up a trending topic,
he had no way of knowing the uproar this photograph was about to set off.

And, as expected, the comments section turned into a complete frenzy.
Too much, edited, legit, just entertainment, clickbait, contrarians, and analyses—all mixed together.

“Orbs, lol.”
“This is definitely edited.”
“There are hands all over the place by their feet, lol.”
“The twin-tailed girl’s eyes aren’t smiling—that’s kind of scary.”
“It’s probably just dust picked up by the flash.”
“If this is legit, this is seriously bad stuff.”
“Who even took this? This totally feels staged.”
“Only the thing behind them actually feels legit, lol.”
“Jumping around in an abandoned building, lol—what is this, the Showa era?”
“Living people are the scariest theory.”
“This is probably just a ghost app.”
“I want that kind of mental strength to throw up peace signs in an abandoned place.”
“I mean, piling it on this much is kind of impressive, lol.”
“Yeah, yeah—here we go again with another ‘insanely paranormal photo,’ lol.”
“No, honestly, the person who took this is the most messed up one.”
“There’s no way a smartphone would capture this much.”
“The twin-tails are just too much, lol.”

However, they were no different either.
They made a fuss over an over-the-top paranormal photo.
That was simply normal on the internet.
