A new friend

What a coincidence, is she doing these things to intentionally get close to me? I’m not that good-looking am I? Well I’m just a pretty average-looking teen boy. I have bluish-white hair that I got from my mother (father’s is dark brown), average height, and I guess a “slightly” masculine body (this is due to the fact that I train in my uncle Fujino’s dojo thrice a week).

“K-k-k-kido-san? You are Ms. Aozora Kido, right? I saw your magic execution at the practical exams, you were great!”

She looked at the me from head to toe. She then averted her attention towards my right hand which still had a bandage wrapped around it because of the burn I got from that adapter that malfunctioned.

“Thanks … Are you okay? You caused quite a commotion last week. I heard that the school is still looking in to what really happened, but they say it most likely is a Power Adapter defect.”

“Ohhh… Yes, I am okay. I was afraid that they wouldn’t let me in the Academy after that incident, but I was relieved when my letter of admission arrived hahaha.”

“My sister is the Vice President of the student body here. She told me that there will be a 1st year students’ orientation at the Stadium before the official classes starts, shall we go?”

“Go? T-t-together? O-o-okay!”

`At the Dean’s office

A man was at the window of the office which was 3-stories high. He was looking at the students entering the campus with an inquisitive look on his face.

“Another year has gone by. Lots of fresh new faces and talents has stepped foot on this Academy once again… How’s the investigation on last week’s incident going?”

“We’re still running tests on the Power adapter that was used by that kid. Some of our analysts are saying that the adapter wasn’t defective at all, most probably it just broke down because of an immense surge of magical. But as I said, we’re still running further tests to confirm what the real source of the problem was.”, a guy wearing a black-suite answered.

“Okay, carry on with the investigations. Ohhh, and send someone to keep an eye on that kid just in case something comes up. What’s his name again?”

“Shinzo Kazushi”

“I think I see a bunch of students in blue uniform over there!”

“Where?”

Kido-san looked around and then her head got really close to my face as she was trying to see where I was pointing at. She is extremely close to my left cheek. I think if turned my head towards her, my nose and lips would graze on her right cheek a little. I felt nervous and took a step backwards then exhaled loudly.

“Over there, follow me”, I usher her to follow me and she did. So we started walking towards the group of our fellow Elemental affiliation students. It was pretty crowded so we were having a hard time getting through. I had to constantly pause and look behind me to see if Kido-san was still keeping up with me.

I then feel a warm touch of a soft hand grabbing on to my left wrist. I look over behind me and see that Kido-san was now holding on to my wrist. Well I guess this is for the best so that we wouldn’t get separated in the crowd of students. So I just shrug it off and we continue walking.

We passed through the thick crowd of students near the entrance and it is considerably less crowded now. I see lots of students in red uniform here. Astral affiliation, so Rin must be somewhere here too. I then hear a familiar male voice calling out to me.

“Oi! Shinzo!”

I see Rin mixed in with a group of Astral affiliation students waving his hand while calling out my name. He made his way towards me. He had a look of excitement and a big smile on his face while he made his approach.

“So you got in after all! I was worried you wouldn’t get to be my schoolmate since you covered the whole stadium grounds with ice, even I got my left leg stuck on the ground hahaha… And also- “, Rin paused as he looked to see what’s behind me as he noticed that my left arm was extended and someone was holding it from behind me. I could see he had a mix of amazement and curiosity on his facial expressions now.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t seem to notice that you were having a stroll with your girlfriend…Nee, Shinzo-kun”

I felt a sense of panic as I seem to have forgotten the fact Kido-san was behind me holding on to my left wrist. I kinda figured this would happen, of course people would make such a misunderstanding since it looks like me and Kido-san were a couple, holding hands while taking a walk.

“No-no-no… This is not what it seems like!”

Kido-san pulls on my left wrist that she was holding on to, trying to get my attention as she’s about to say something.

“Kazushi-kun, can we do this friendly chat later? I think the orientation is about to start as I see that most of the students are now seated.”

“Ohh… yes, right… sorry, I’ll explain later, Rin.”

“I’ll be waiting for you two lovebirds during lunch break!”, Rin shouted as we were walking away from him.

Kido-san and I finally reach the group of Elemental affiliation students that I pointed out to earlier. As I am scanning the area for any empty seats that were left, I couldn’t help but notice that most of the students had their gazes directed at me. I think they still remember me as the guy who started that incident during the practical exams.

“Over there Kazushi-kun, I see two empty seats at the corner right of the last row.”

“Huh? But there are empty seats here in the front row too.”

“U-uhh-mm… I know but… “

She looked down and pouted. As she did, I recalled that she was also at the back of the line during the practical exams. Maybe she’s a shy person that prefers to be at the back so she wouldn’t garner much attention.

“Okay, let’s go get seated over there at the back.”

She lifted her head, looked at me, and smiled. She then ran up the stairs excitedly and paused to look back to me.

“Come on! Let’s go!”

With that, I started making my ascent and soon we were seated at the spot she pointed at.

I took a deep breath of slight exhaustion. I’m not used to these type of crowded areas. I did take up home classes after all, so all of this is new to me. This is also my first time having an actual school uniform on.

There’s a stage in the middle of the stadium grounds, just like during the practical exams. I look over to Kido-san, she seems to be looking at someone among the people on the stage. I look over to the stage and notice a girl who looks similar to Kido-san. And I’ve met this girl before too, this was the girl who was with Kido-san when she bumped in to me during last week. So I guess the is the sister of Kido-san. And she did mention that her sister was the student body’s Vice President so I’m not surprised to see her on that stage.

“Aheeemmm”
