Chapter 717:
En Passant Grandmaster
With the tournament set to start the next morning, all gathered in the ballroom for the opening ceremony, which unlike the Chess Olympics, was more so just a dinner party than ceremony.
Raymond then took the stage and gave a speech. "To all the players, welcome to Nikko. Here, you and your teammates shall compete for glory. In these six on six matchups, you'll first be tasked with securing the most points in round-robin play. After playing each team once, whichever teams scored the least amount of points will be eliminated, while the remaining four will head to single elimination brackets to decide the winner. Strategy is abundant in this format. In theory, a team could place fourth after the round-robin and still win the tournament, but that is only a possibility. A win shall count as 2 points, a draw, 1 point, and a loss shall naturally get you no points. 3.5 points are needed to win each matchup, but don't anyone forget, two matches will be played each day until we reach the finals. You have the night to ease your mind and formulate your strategies. That is all."
