Chapter 3:
Infinite Onion Peel Theory
Journal #3
HA! Did I get you with the abrupt ending for entry #2? Okay, I really need to stop with the fantasy that someone will read this. This is a journal. A personal diary. Nobody will read it, or at least nobody is intended to read^it. Writing it with the intention of someone reading it goes against the spirit of journals.
Even if I secretly want someone to read this so I can flex my day :)
Today was my long awaited rest day. I haven’t been doing too hot lately, so I decided to sleep in. And sleep in I did. I woke up at 1 pm, and then lazed around in bed for another hour or so. I just did some low energy scrolling on social media, laughing at how stupid people are. Seriously, it’s insane how many people spend their lives commenting the same things, making the same jokes, the same arguments, the same insults. Actual NPC behaviour. Lends credence to the theory that they are simply characters in a story, because I refuse to believe that actual people can be this one-dimensional. Maybe I should publish the INFINITE ONION PEEL THEORY somewhere and get rich…
Anyway, as lazy as I was, I needed to get up to eat. At the same time, I was too lazy to make something. So, I decided to head to the cafe nearby. The weather was great today. No clouds making weird shapes. No clouds at all, in fact. It felt like the world itself was smiling, the happiness blessing my skin through the gentle warmth of the soft sunlight.
It felt real. So very real. I still remember the feeling of the warmth burning my worries away, the strange suffocation in my limbs fading away.
The day kept on getting better. The cafe has been holding this event recently, where you can scratch a part of your cup to potentially reveal a prize. Of course, I had only gotten “please play again” before today. Today, however, I managed to do the impossible: I actually won the fabled top prize, a brand new car! I still can’t get this stupid grin off my face. I just can’t believe it. I’m pinching my face to confirm that this isn’t a dream. In fact, my cheeks have gone red from pinching myself hundreds of times today. If this is the sort of plot twist I’m going to get, I want to thank my writer.
Money has been tight, so Dad has so far refused to buy a new car. His old one has one step (or one wheel) in the grave, and it really worries me. On multiple occasions, it has stopped working in the middle of the road. I don’t really need a car anytime soon, so I’m going to give this one to him, so he can finally drive safely.
On my way back, I ran into Nita. She was volunteering to pick up the trash in our local park. She would totally be the main character of a light novel called “Nita Can’t Stop Being An Angel.” I didn’t let the opportunity slip. I joined the volunteers and helped Nita, making small talk while doing so. Of course, I kept my true reasons hidden, which would be too embarrassing to admit, and simply told her that I happened to see them, and that I had nothing to do today and was feeling full of energy so I decided to help. Technically not a lie!
Even not considering the fact that I was with Nita, I actually felt quite good doing this. How do I say this. A sense of fulfillment? I’m not really the type of person to go out of my way to do things like this, but maybe I should reconsider.
When we finished, all of us volunteers gathered and were given fresh oranges by the team leader. And boy were they good. Never in my life did I think that oranges. ORANGES. Of all things can be so good. The juice that burst with every bite was just wow.
The day was going so great that I kinda forgot to put on the brakes. I actually managed to ask Nita to come watch my tennis match tomorrow! And she said yes!!!
I’ll be honest, I don’t know what happened from then to when I got home. My mind was in lalaland. Kindddd of insane how capable we are on autopilot. It’s kind of like we just transition between scenes.
And now here I am, writing this journal entry as my legs shake from positive nervous energy. I gotta win for sure tomorrow. My opponent is nothing special. I am clearly the main character right now. Man, I can’t stop this excitement. This is how I feel right now: 😆
I know! After I win tomorrow, I’ll ask her out. Before today, I would never have even had the courage to think this. That’s just how much a good day can change you. Besides, she already said yes to watching me play. Surely, she wouldn’t have if she wasn’t interested. There was also the way she helped me yesterday. Actually, she’s always helping me. I’m feeling good about this. Yeah we have been friends for a long time, but this is clearly different.
My heart just won’t stop pounding. This might have been the best day of my life, and I am determined to shatter this record in just one day. My fortunes have shifted. Things are finally going to go my way. This time, everything will go well.
I should clean my apartment. Wouldn’t want to make a bad first impression in the new chapter of our lives.
I feel like I should end this entry in a special way, it being the best day of my life after all.
Uhh, how do you end a journal entry anyway? My first two, looking back, are far from normal. How do I make this stand out even more?
SIGNING OFF ON THIS BEAUTIFUL TODAY, LOOK FORWARD TO AN EVEN BETTER TOMORROW!
