Chapter 4:

The Transfer Student

Say Something

It was the beginning of a new semester; it was a beautiful day outside, as pure white popcorn clouds clustered together enough to blocked out the sun, but still left enough rich shades of blue to color most of the sky. Jeff made a full recovery from his injuries and he was ready to begin a happy school year with his German girlfriend, Charia von Hürlimann. Jeff went on his way to his first class... ehh... GERMAN 101!

Meanwhile, Charia von Hürlimann realized that she was going to be late. She shoved a slice of buttered toast into her mouth and ran out her front door and leaped down the steps. Charia then ran as fast as she could to class. Some bystanders could not help but observe Charia’s ‘physical attributes’ as she ran and as a result, some wives lightly slapped their ogling husbands in the back of their heads.

Charia finally arrived to her first class of the day. Jeff walked into his first class too, and he quickly sat down in a random seat because he was nearly late. “Phew... I’m safe”, Jeff said to himself.

“Everyone say ‘Hallo, guten Tag!’ to the person next to you”, requested Professorin Homolko-Pohen.

“Hall—... ehhh... Charia?”

“Hallo, guten Tag my Mann”, nonchalantly replied Charia.

Jeff thought to himself, “Ehh... a native German learning German 101? I don’t want to get her in trouble. I guess I will ask her about it later.”

LATER THAT DAY

“So, Charia, why are you taking German 101, if you already know it fluently?”, questioned Jeff.

“Silly Mann, because it is an ‘easy A’ für me. My grades will be good. I’ll have the besten GPA (Grade Point Average).”

“Oh... okay”, replied Jeff with a slightly disappointed look on his face.

The classroom door, suddenly, was opened with a loud slam; someone appeared to be making a grand entrance. The person then walked into the classroom calmly and collectedly, as if he was an action movie star walking away from an explosion in slow motion.

Charia’s eyes widened... She... she thought that she was seeing things. A new male student walked into the room. The student was a little bit above average height for a man; he was physically fit, but not muscular. His hair was a dark brown; and he had light blue eyes.

“Vo...Vo-volker?... Volker!!” Charia exclaimed, while waving her arm and running towards this... this attractive young man that was dressed in Lederhosen.

“Cha-Charia... Immer wusste Ich, dass Ich dich finden würde (I always knew that I would find you).”

Charia hugged him tightly, and then she and Volker gazed into each other’s eyes.

(Inner Thoughts of Jeff)

“My lord... this guy is handsome, tall and fit...This guy is… a masterpiece”… “There is no way that I can compete!” 😱

The man leaned in, as if he was going to kiss Charia, as he held her head with one of his hands, and brushed her hair aside.

Jeff was completely confused. Jeff got out of his seat and nearly flew to Charia and he interrogated, “Ehh... who this?”

“He is my ex-boyfriend from Germany.”

Jeff was in shock; his face went pale, he had a blank stare in his eyes, and his jaw almost hit the floor. It was almost as if his body was instantly turned into stone by Medusa.

“Mein Name is Volker von Thieb. Who are du?”, asked Volker, as he stuck his palm, out in order to offer Jeff a handshake.

Jeff looked Volker in the eyes with a strong intensity and while shaking Volker’s hand, Jeff declared, “I am her boyfriend.” Jeff smiled lightly at Volker, almost as if to indicate that Jeff was the dominant male, and that he had won the girl, so back off!

“Oh, is that so. Well, we can talk more later. I will see you both soon. And Charia, I have transferred to this university”, explained Volker.

Volker handed his new cell phone number to Charia. “Tchüss (Goodbye)”.

Volker walked away into the sunset, looking as cool as a cucumber. His swag had to be at least over 9000.

(Jeff’s Inner Thoughts)

“You have got to be kidding me... my... my swag is only 8999!”

Jeff then looked at Charia’s face, which looked like she felt guilty, as if she had done something wrong.

As a result, Jeff was agitated and wished Charia would end her silence. Jeff wanted to know more; he wanted to know the history between Volker and Charia, as well as why she would not say something after hers and Volker’s reunion. Jeff stood there and clenched his fist in frustration like Arthur.

“ACHTUNG! Get back in your seats. This is not theatre class. If you want to start a KDrama in the middle of the room, at least do it in German!”, disciplined Professorin Homolko-Pohen.

Everyone returned to their seats; Volker left the classroom. Perhaps, he left to go to his first class of the day.

Unfortunately, Charia still did not say something... at least not now.

To Be Continued.
