Chapter 1:

A whole new world

Jaded soul

Those words linger with me. I looked around, hell or heaven. Which one do I truly deserve? This fallen angel stuff sucks balls. It's one thing to be clouded by pure anger but it's another to actually think.

"Well what are you waiting for? I told you which path leads."

Shut up, let me decide. I'm thinking, Mrs. Impatient.

"Me inpatient, I could never."

"Now choose before I choose for you."

You just proved my point.

I walked to the path of hell. The dark red hue, fire spewing everywhere, astounded me.

"Are you sure?"

Yes, I replied back.

I enter the pathway to hell. I will probably regret it, but I get dark magic.

"WELCOME TO HELL! SOUNDED BETTER IN MY HEAD!"

"MY NAME IS SATAN. I SEE YOU ARE A FALLEN ANGEL. DID THE ANGEL LADY TELL YOU ABOUT EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS WORLD?"

Yes.

WHY ARE YOU YELLING.

"I CANNOT HEAR. TOO MUCH EAR WAX. I WILL GRANT YOU THIS POWER OF DARK MAGIC. YOU CAN TAME THE PEOPLE OR ANIMALS TO USE AT YOUR WILL."

Cool, I said.

"WHAT DID YOU SAY!?"

Nothing.

"I WILL PUT YOU INTO A BODY OF A TWELVE YEAR OLD NAME ALAN. HE IS A KID WHOSE BODY IS STRONG WITH MAGIC BUT DUE TO HIS ILLNESS HE DIED. YOU WILL NOT GET HIS ILLNESS. I HOPE YOU ENJOY!"

I YELLED BACK YOUR BREATH SMELLS SO BAD THAT A SKUNK COULD DIE AND SMELL BETTER.

This was the lamest transition ever. I just woke up in a body, no cool teleportation, no flying out of the sky. Talk about generic.

Stats open. A big blue screen with white numbers appears. I see it appears in four different categories.

I really am in a game. I feel bad for the last owner who was on his death bed, but now it's my body. Everyone thinks I am dead.

I grinned. A maniacal laughter appeared. I took a deep breath. Perfect, now I can train in peace while wreaking havoc.

Well damn, talk about broken. I wonder what skills I have.

I see so my skills are Soul Thread, which controls dead animals and can be summoned at any time. Soul Redemption allows you to control souls and tame them to be apart of your army. Perfect.

Wait. My passive Soul Thread can only be used once every 72 hours? Damn. Here I thought I was getting my overpowered trope. Soul Redemption only works on dead animals or humans at my level. Does that mean if my level is low I'm useless? Ugh, broken skills, nerfed in the process. I hate this more than beating him to a pulp.

The weather was nice. It was not a nice baby blue sky but the sun was out and the breeze blew with a hint of warmth. I walked around the forest to figure out where I am while finding where the first town is.

I came across a dead animal.

It was perfect.

Now I can see where everything is while avoiding trouble.

I just grinned.

I cast Soul Redemption. I saw a red dark hue come alive from the bird. It was a thick black flame. I looked at its stats.

Weak stats are not shocking for a bird, but it has this buff trait which is rare. Either I got mad lucky or this was planned. The skill was called Clairvoyance. It let me see farther ahead up to over 200 meters.

However, in order to use the bird I must submit my soul into it. That kinda sucks but makes sense I guess. I need to find a safe spot where I can transfer my soul into the bird. The sun was setting, a dark pink hue covering the sky. The breeze settled down to a harsh coldness. The trees were shaking and leaves were falling.

I don't chase what happens, I find what's happening. I found a dark cave. The hue of the sky was getting dim, pure darkness, no wind, no brightness.

I guess I will finish this later when it gets sunny out. I slowly drifted to sleep in this cave. Due to my past experience of being homeless I honed my awareness and perception. I heard footsteps.

Loud steps approaching.

Body did not move.

I just looked at the opening.

Was it my imagination?

This world can run.

Cities could be spinning.

I still remain calm.

I transferred my soul into the bird's body.

It felt light.

I felt free.

As if I was escaping.

My perception has increased. I can see a lot more of my surroundings. I found a couple of bandits hiding out, it looks like four of them. They don't look like your average bandits.

On the other side of the terrain I saw a carriage driving by with horses and ten guards protecting it.

Who could it be?

Does not matter to me. It does not involve me so I won't get involved.

The bird was getting weak. It seemed I used half of my mana. Time to transform back into my body.

My body felt nimble.

As if I got hit with a rock.

I got up slowly.

I might as well take a look and see how this plays out. Maybe best case I can see if it works on those dead bandits or those dead guards.

It was bright, almost too bright.

My pupils adjusted.

I walked through the woods. I saw a rabbit charging at me with full hatred. All I saw was food. I knew I was nowhere near a town and my stomach made a grumbling sound.

I grabbed a stick nearby. My early days at the academy I learned how to fence, thank God it came in handy. I got into a close stance, foot one behind another.

Alright you ugly animal, come get some.

As the bunny was charging at me.

I stepped back.

I heard a thump.

I looked over.

The stupid stick was broken.

I am going insane. Maybe I should write a book on how to not be mentally insane, ha. Get it? Because well.

Ah, forget it.

I looked at the injured bunny. I felt bad to an extent. So I just let the bunny lay there and moved on. As I was moving towards the campsite of the bandits I heard talking. I looked around and saw two of the bandits setting out traps.

The first trap I saw was a classic pothole trap.

The second was the rope trick.

The rope trick is where you find a thin sturdy wire lining tied between two objects. This will either slice the guards off or pull the guards on the horse off.

I found a nice sturdy rock. I hid behind it and transformed into a bird. I found some food I could steal for myself. As for weapons, I found a little sharp knife laying around while the guards were switching shifts for patrol.

I swooped down.

Grabbed the knife.

No one noticed.

I transformed back. The feedback of transforming felt more normal now than before. I have the control right now. If I get involved I could level up my skill to use the buff and unlock a new spell.

But if I did that I would be dragged back to where this carriage came from and draw attention. UGH! This sucks.

The sun was setting. I heard the carriage getting closer and so did the bandits. I peeked on the right side of the rock and saw those two guards fall off their horses. Amateurs, not strong enough to finish them.

The silence of my thoughts stays.

Everything freezes in time.

I must decide.

To act or not.

I decided to, but in my own way. I looked at the knife. I killed once so what makes this different?

I heard swords clashing between the bandits and guards. Both were not easy to take down. I counted three guards down from the ten. As for the bandits, no one has died yet. The bandits were running the way of the pothole and the guards did not notice why they took opposite sides.

All I heard were screams. I could not stop looking.

I heard a storm calling me.

Asking me to change.

Standing still.

While chaos peaks.

I took a deep breath looking at the reflection of the knife.

Let the darkness.

Test my will.

I'll still be standing.

Calm.

And still.
