Chapter 5:
Seven lost keijus
Chapter 6: The Weight of Dreams – Nightfall
After the matches, the arena grounds grew calmer. Some aspirants ate. Some rested. Some trained. Some cried after losing.
Near the medical tents, Isami sat on a wooden bench, wrapped in bandages from head to toe. His arm in a sling. Face swollen. Lip cut. He looked like he had lost a war.
Kimara stood nearby with her arms crossed. Hakimaru leaned against a pole. Yin sat quietly, listening to the wind.
“I think… I died.”
“You tried,” Kimara said.
“Seventeen times, apparently.”
Yin smiled softly. “Seventeen exactly.”
“Of course you counted too…”
Hakimaru said, “You embarrassed the entire academy.”
“Thanks.”
“…In a good way.”
Isami smiled slightly. Kimara looked away, trying not to smile.

Near the Water Barrels
Kimara walked alone, carrying a small container. She knelt near a large water barrel used for healing and washing. She dipped her hand inside. Water rose slowly around her fingers. She stared at it, thinking.
A voice came from behind her. “Smooth control.”
She froze and looked up.
A boy stood nearby – tall, confident, dark blue hair, ocean‑blue eyes. A Water Clan symbol on his shoulder. Relaxed posture. A small smirk.
“You're Kimara, right?”
“Who are you?”
“Kai.” He tapped his shoulder symbol. “Water Clan.”
“…Okay.”
“I watched your fight yesterday.” He walked closer – not too close. “Breaking a water prison from the inside? That was creative.”
Kimara looked away slightly. “I did what I had to.”
“Most people panic. You didn't.”
She said nothing.
Kai smiled. “You don't talk much.”
“Not to strangers.”
“Fair.” He sat on a crate nearby like he owned the place. “We're not strangers anymore.”
“We are.”
“Not after I introduce myself. That makes us acquaintances.” A small pause. “Soon friends.”
“You're annoying.”
“I hear that a lot.”
His expression softened slightly. “That chi‑less guy… Isami.”
Kimara looked at him fast.
“I watched that fight too.” He exhaled slowly. “Seventeen times.” He shook his head. “That was insane.”
Kimara's expression softened a little. “…Yeah.”
“He's special.”
“…He is.”
Kai looked at her for a moment, then smiled again – playful. “You know… Water Clan royalty like me should probably give you a title.”
“Don't.”
“Too late.” He leaned slightly closer – not creepy, just confident. “I think I'll call you… my princess. And also, what's that eagle mark on your arm?”
Kimara touched her arm instinctively. “It's a birthmark.”
Kai's voice was soft. “It's beautiful.”
Kimara froze completely. “…What?”
“Relax. It's a compliment.”
He stood up. “See you around…” He looked back, smirking. “My princess.”
He left.
Kimara stood there. Confused. Annoyed. Slightly shaken. She hated that.
---
Isami Enters
Isami walked out of the medical tent slowly, holding his ribs. He saw Kimara standing there.
“You look like someone insulted you.”
“Someone talked to me.”
“That's worse.” He looked around. “Who?”
“Water Clan guy. Blue hair.”
“He looked strong.” A small pause. “…He also looked like he talks too much.”
Kimara almost smiled. “He does.”
Isami hesitated. “Did he say something weird?”
Kimara looked at him. “He called me princess.”
Isami froze for half a second – very small, very quick. “…Oh. That's… dumb.”
“Yeah.”
“Really dumb.” He looked away, scratching his head. “…You're not a princess.”
“Wow, thanks.”
“I mean – not like that – I mean–”
Yin appeared behind them. “Your heartbeat changed, Isami.”
Isami jumped. “WHAT?!”
“What?” Kimara asked.
Yin smiled. “It got faster.”
“IT DID NOT.”
“It did.”
Kimara looked between them, suspicious.
Isami started walking fast. “Let's go back to the tent. NOW.”
Kimara smirked slightly. Yin smiled.

Edge of the Camp – Late Afternoon
The sun was lower. Most matches were over. The arena was quieter, but the camp still buzzed with noise.
Near the edge, Ryosuke sat by himself – away from everyone. His food sat untouched. His hands shook. He kept staring toward the high table, toward the Paragons. One of them stood there – Yotoro, his brother, covered in seal markings.
Ryosuke lowered his head. Everyone's watching… My match is next tomorrow… He laughed quietly – not happy. Great.
He put his face in his hands. Why can't I be like him… Strong… calm… perfect…
His hands shook more. I'm just the flop. The failure of the Figure Clan.
Then – Yotoro's voice came from behind him. “You talk too much when you're scared.”
Ryosuke froze and slowly looked up.
Yotoro stood in front of him – huge, intimidating, but his eyes were soft.
“B‑Brother?!” Ryosuke jumped up. “You can't be here – you're a Paragon – you're supposed to–”
“I'm supposed to be where I'm needed.” Yotoro sat beside him heavily, the ground almost thudding. “Right now, that's here.”
Ryosuke stared, still shocked. “You… watched my training?”
“I watch everything.”
Silence. Camp noises in the distance.
Yotoro continued, “I also watched Isami's match. The chi‑less kid.”
Ryosuke blinked. “Yeah…”
“He lost. Seventeen times he fell. Seventeen times he stood. No chi. No clan. No power. His ribs were broken. His arm dislocated. His face destroyed. And he kept getting up. The entire arena stood for him.”
Ryosuke swallowed.
“Do you know why?”
“Because… he's crazy?”
Yotoro smirked slightly. “Because he has heart. Power without heart is just noise.” He tapped Ryosuke's chest. “Heart without power… is still something.” He tapped again. “But you – you have both.”
Ryosuke looked confused. “I don't feel like I do.”
“Because you keep comparing yourself to me.” Yotoro stood slowly. “You're not me. You're Ryosuke. And tomorrow – I'm not watching as a Paragon. I'm watching as your brother. Show me what you can do.”
He started walking away.
Ryosuke stared at the ground. His hands still shook – then slowly, they stopped. He clenched his fists.
Heart… Yeah…
He stood. I can do that.
He walked toward the camp – steadier. Not confident yet. But not broken anymore.
---
Evening Camp – The Weight of Dreams
The sun set over the valley. Orange light covered the arena. Fires began lighting across the camp – hundreds of them. Aspirants sat together, eating, talking, laughing, or sitting in silence.
The main four sat together around a small fire. Isami was wrapped in bandages but smiling. Kimara sat close – not too close, but close. Hakimaru leaned against a log. Yin listened to the night.
Isami looked around. “So many people… all here for the same thing.”
“To prove themselves,” Kimara said.
“Yeah… to prove themselves.”
He looked down at his pendant. “My parents… I never knew them. Kusicame told me they died saving me.” He held the pendant tighter. “I don't even remember their faces.”
Silence.
Yin said softly, “But you remember their love. It's in your heartbeat. Every time you talk about them… it gets warmer.”
Isami stared at her, then smiled slightly. “Yeah… I guess it is.”
Kimara said quietly, “You're lucky. At least you know they loved you.” She looked away. “Some of us don't have that.”
Silence. Isami wanted to say something but didn't know what.
Hakimaru broke the silence. “Tomorrow, more fights.” He looked at Isami. “You have four more.”
Isami groaned. “Don't remind me.”
Yin smiled. “You survived today. Tomorrow is another chance.”
“Yeah… another chance to get hit seventeen times.”
Kimara almost laughed. “At least you're consistent.”
Isami grinned. “That's my talent.”
---
Far Side of the Camp – Shizuke
Far from the fires, away from everyone, Shizuke sat against a wall at the edge of the camp. Alone. As always.
His pale purple eyes watched the stars.
Day two. One win. Four to go.
He thought about the day – Isami's seventeen falls, the crowd standing for someone with no power.
Seventeen times… Why would anyone do that?
Movement. A figure approached. Shine. Her red hair caught the firelight from far away. She walked toward him slowly – hesitant, but determined.
“Um… excuse me…”
Shizuke looked at her. No expression. “You again.”
“Yeah… me again.” She sat a few feet away – not too close, not too far. “I won my match yesterday.”
“I saw.”
Shine's eyes widened slightly. “You… you watched?”
Shizuke said nothing, but he didn't deny it.
Shine smiled softly. “That Kikuri girl… she was really strong. Her chi manipulation… I've never felt anything like it.”
“But you won.”
“Yeah… I won.”
Silence.
“You know… you're not as scary as people say.”
“I'm not trying to be scary.”
“Then what are you trying to be?”
A long pause. “…Alone.”
Shine's voice was quiet. “That's sad. Being alone isn't strength.”
She stood. “But… I won't bother you.” She started walking away. “Goodnight, Shizuke.”
She left.
Shizuke watched her go.
…Goodnight. She's familiar, but I can't recall where I met her.
---
The High Table – Night
Kusicame stood alone at the edge of the high table, looking down at the camp – thousands of lights, thousands of dreams.
Saki approached silently and stood beside him.
“Yashiroyin.”
“Saki.”
Silence.
“Your student… Isami. Seventeen times.”
Kusicame smiled slightly. “I know.”
“He has your fire.”
“No… he has his own.”
Saki nodded. “Yotoro's brother fights tomorrow. He's scared.”
“Good.” Kusicame's voice was calm. “Fear means he knows what's at stake. Now he just needs to move forward anyway.”
Saki nodded slowly. “Like your student.”
Kusicame smiled. “Like all of them.”
They stood in silence, watching the camp – the future.
---
Final Montage
The view moved across the camp:
Goro sat with his Figure Clan group, smiling, looking at a flower he had kept from the arena.
Raigo trained alone, punching the air, determined.
Kikuri repaired her broken dolls, focused, intense.
Jin bounced around his campfire, annoying his friends, laughing.
Kazan yelled about his next match, fire exploding everywhere.
Shiba sat alone, sharpening his blade, calm.
Akari meditated, her eyes glowing faintly, learning.
Kagen ate loudly, covered in bandages, still grinning.
Kai lounged near the Water Clan tents, smirking at the stars.
Shine sat by her fire, looking toward the edge of camp.
Shizuke sat alone in the darkness.
Ryosuke stood in front of his tent, fists clenched, staring at tomorrow.
---
Final Shot
Isami lay by his fire, staring at the stars. His hand clutched his pendant.
He whispered, “Mom… Dad… I don't know if you're watching. But… I'm trying. I'm really trying.”
He closed his eyes.
The pendant glowed faintly.
Just for a moment.
