Chapter 871:

A challenge on International Chess Day

En Passant Grandmaster

The next morning, Mimoko turned on the TV.

"Welcome! It's International Chess Day 2024, and as such, we're gonna attempt a challenge!" Kisha cheered. "Here today is grandmaster Peter Morphy and challenger, Marie Melonpan! However, there's an extra layer of challenge; the game must be won in 7 moves! No more, no less. Can it be done?"

"It's doable," Peter nodded as he opened the game by moving his pawn to e4.

"What if I open with this?" Marie groaned as she moved her knight to h6.

"I counter with this," Peter replied as he moved his queen to f3.

"I could just... do this?" Marie mumbled as she moved her pawn to d5.

"Then I capture," Peter stated as he captured the pawn at d5 with his e-pawn.

Marie went quiet as she moved her bishop to g4, while Peter thought for a bit before moving his queen to b3.

"Uh... I do this?" Marie frowned as she moved her knight to d7.

"Yes, that makes things easier for me," Peter snarled as he moved his bishop to c4.

"Wait, I gotta tempt ya," Marie cried as she moved her bishop to d1.

"That won't work," Peter scowled as he moved his pawn to d6.

"Wah, um... What if I try this?" Marie grimaced as she moved her knight to g4.

"Then I win. Checkmate," Peter declared as he captured the pawn at f7 with his bishop, winning the game.

"And they've done it! A checkmate in 7! Happy International Chess Day, everyone!" Kisha waved.
