Volume 1 — Chapter 4: The Mystery of the Miracle Phones Part 1 — A Strange Morning

The next morning, Airi Mizuhara woke up with only one thought in her mind.
The battle.

She sat on her bed and stared at the Miracle Phone lying beside her.

“Was yesterday really real?”

She picked it up.

Nothing happened.

Airi pressed a button.

Nothing.

She pressed it again.

Still nothing.

“Come on! Do something!”

The phone remained silent.

Airi sighed.

“Maybe it only works when I'm in danger.”

She suddenly remembered the transformation.

Her face turned red.

“And that outfit...”

She covered her face with both hands.

“I can't believe I actually transformed!”

At school, Airi was having trouble concentrating.

During swimming practice, her coach Kenji Morita noticed.

“Airi! You're swimming slower than usual today.”

Airi stopped at the edge of the pool.

“Sorry!”

Her best friend Mio Hayasaka looked at her suspiciously.

“You're still thinking about yesterday, aren't you?”

Airi froze.

“How did you know?”

“You've been staring at the same wall for 

five minutes.”

Airi quickly looked away.

“I was thinking about... swimming.”

Mio narrowed her eyes.

“That was the worst excuse I've ever heard.”

Airi laughed nervously.

“Sorry!”

Meanwhile, Rina was having her own problems.

In the chemistry club, she was supposed to measure a solution.

Her friend Kaito Fujisawa watched her carefully.

“Rina.”

“Yes?”

“You've been holding that measuring 

cylinder upside down.”

Rina looked down.

She immediately corrected it.

“...I knew that.”

Sana Moriyama laughed.

“Sure you did.”

Rina sighed.

“I'm just thinking about something.”
Kaito smiled.

“The stars?”

Rina became silent.

Sana leaned closer.

“You really are obsessed with that mystery.”

Rina looked toward the window.

“I think yesterday's event wasn't a coincidence.”

A Secret Meeting

After school, Airi went to Rina's house.

Rina opened the door.

“You're late.”

“I had swimming practice!”

“You said you would come directly after school.”

“I did!”

“You stopped for ice cream.”

Airi looked away.

“...That was an emergency.”

Rina stared at her.

“An ice cream emergency?”

“Exactly.”

Rina sighed.

“Come inside.”

They went to Rina's room.

Both Miracle Phones were placed on the table.

Airi looked at them.

“So... where do we start?”

Rina opened her notebook.

“We need to record everything we know.”

She wrote:

Two stars.

Two Miracle Phones.

Two transformations.

One monster.

Unknown powers.

Airi raised her hand.

“And one very confused swimmer.”

Rina sighed.

“I'll leave that part out.”

Airi laughed.

Testing Their Powers

They decided to test the Miracle Phones.

Airi held hers.

“Miracle Phone! Transform!”

Nothing happened.

Airi blinked.

“Come on!”

Nothing.

Rina tried.

“Miracle Phone, activate.”

Nothing happened again.

Airi crossed her arms.

“So they don't work whenever we want?”

“That seems to be the case.”

“That's annoying.”

Rina thought carefully.

“During the battle, our powers activated because we were protecting someone.”

Airi remembered the little girl.

“So maybe our emotions affect the 

Miracle Phones.”

Rina wrote it down.

“Possible emotional activation.”

Airi suddenly pointed at the notebook.

“Then let's test it!”

“How?”

Airi thought for a moment.
She looked extremely serious.

“Think about something really emotional.”

Rina stared at her.

“Like what?”

“I don't know.”

Airi suddenly shouted:

“Someone stole my last strawberry cake!”

Rina jumped.

“What are you doing?!”

Airi burst out laughing.

“Nothing happened.”

Rina put her hand over her face.

“This experiment is already a disaster.”

A New Clue

Suddenly, Rina's Miracle Phone began glowing.

Both girls froze.

“Did you see that?” Airi whispered.

“Yes.”

The screen displayed a strange symbol.

A small image appeared.

It looked like an ancient heart surrounded by two stars.

Rina immediately grabbed her notebook.

“That's new.”

The image disappeared.

Airi looked at her.

“What does it mean?”

“I don't know.”

Rina turned toward her bookshelf.

“There may be something in my father's old books.”

She began searching.

After several minutes, she pulled out an old history book.

“Found something.”

Inside was an illustration of two warriors standing beneath two stars.

Airi leaned closer.

“Those look like us.”

Rina read the old text.

“The legend speaks of two chosen hearts...”

She stopped.

Airi looked at her.

“What does it say?”

Rina continued reading.

“When darkness threatens the balance of the world, two stars will choose warriors whose hearts can awaken the Miracle Power.”

Airi's eyes widened.

“So that's us?”

Rina shook her head.

“It's only a legend.”

“But everything in it is already happening!”

Rina became silent.

For the first time, she began to consider that the legend might be real.

The Beginning of a Legend

The book contained only part of the story.

According to the legend, there were mysterious Power Stones capable of maintaining the balance of the world.

But their power could be used for either salvation or destruction.

Airi looked worried.

“So the villain from yesterday was looking for those stones?”

Rina nodded.

“That would explain the monster.”

Airi clenched her fists.

“Then we have to find them first.”

Rina looked at her.

“We don't even know where they are.”

Airi smiled.

“Then we'll find out.”

Rina smiled slightly.

“Together.”

For the first time, they both understood that this wasn't simply a strange accident.

Their new powers were connected to something much bigger.
