Lightning flashed.
Divine power flooded the air.
Ares.
In Hippolyta's mind, only Ares could look like this, possess this kind of power, and strike Diana so hard that she could not get back up.
It explained everything.
Why he had appeared on Themyscira so suddenly.
Why he dared act without restraint.
Why he knew the truth about the God Killer.
He had come to kill Diana.
Diana was the God Killer. Diana alone might be able to kill Ares.
"No. I will never let you hurt Diana!"
Hippolyta pushed herself up, grabbed a sword from the sand, and rushed at Damon.
Damon turned his head and lightly pointed one finger.
Divine power, threaded with lightning, struck Hippolyta instantly.
She screamed and collapsed.
"Mother!"
Diana clenched her fists and forced herself to one knee. Rage filled her voice as she leaped up and threw herself at Damon again. At the same time, Antiope, who had been knocked down earlier, snatched up a sword and attacked from another direction.
Crackle. Crackle.
The sound of electricity grew sharper and denser in the air.
Infinite Stacking, tenfold.
"All of you can lie down quietly."
Damon shouted, and blinding light burst from his body, bright enough to make the sun seem dim. Divine force and thunder erupted from him in every direction.
In an instant, Antiope and Diana were blasted away.
Bang. Bang.
Both of them hit the ground and passed out.
The sea itself seemed to be shoved backward. Enormous waves rose, towering before they rolled away. The cliff face collapsed at once, but the shock wave did not stop there. It swept inland across Themyscira.
Dust and smoke swallowed half the sky. Farther away, buildings cracked, stone crashed down, and screams rose one after another.
Only after a long time did the shaking and impact slowly fade.
From a distance, nearly a third of Themyscira looked as if it had been flattened.
"Now that feels good."
Damon looked down at his hands as divine power and lightning glimmered across them. The wild rush was so intense it made him want to destroy everything around him. No wonder Hippolyta did not want Diana to know her true identity. Without a firm enough will, this power could easily corrode its bearer.
Perhaps that was why the Olympian gods had behaved with such reckless indulgence, their choices so often impossible for mortals to understand.
After several breaths, Damon's eyes cleared, and he found himself again.
He looked around at the flattened cliff, the ruined beach, and the Amazons lying across the sand.
The Legends were definitely going to regret this when they came back.
The Birds of Prey temporal aberration had not even been fixed yet, and now a larger one had been created. Fortunately, Themyscira was isolated from the outside world. What happened on the island should not affect the wider world.
Except, of course, for Diana, the future Wonder Woman who would leave Themyscira with Steve Trevor and defeat Ares.
Damon found Diana, Hippolyta, and Antiope amid the debris on the beach. Antiope's injuries were heavier, but Hippolyta and Diana had only passed out. Nothing life-threatening.
The divine shock had shattered most of their armor.
And in the old, traditional Amazon warrior style, there had not been much beneath the armor.
"Themyscira really does live up to its reputation. No wonder Hercules imprisoned the Amazons as slaves in the comics instead of killing them all."
Damon muttered, and lightning sparked at his fingertips. The electricity became ropes, wrapping around the three women one after another.
Then he dragged them toward the heart of Themyscira.
When Damon arrived at the Amazons' settlement with the three most important women on the island in tow, half the buildings there had already been damaged by the blast of divine power.
"Who is that?"
"The queen!"
"And the general. Diana too!"
Nearby Amazons quickly spotted Damon, their queen, their general, and their princess. Shocked cries broke out. Some of them looked stunned by the sight. Others charged forward, trying to save their queen and defeat the enemy.
Damon did not slow down. He did not even change direction.
When they rushed him, several streams of lightning and divine force leaped from his body.
Bang. Bang. Bang.
They fell one after another in his path.
He walked over them and kept going until a group of guards hurried toward him from the distance.
"Release them!"
The warrior at the front shouted sharply.
Damon stopped.
"What is your name?"
"Menalippe. Vice-general of Themyscira."
"Then go save your people. With luck, some of them may still be alive. If you try to stop me, you will kill your queen, your general, and every one of your sisters. Including Themyscira itself."
Damon lightly stamped one foot.
Divine power sank into the ground.
A crack split open beneath him and raced toward them.
The earth rumbled. Menalippe barely steadied herself, her expression complicated as she watched Damon continue toward the palace. She clenched her jaw.
"You. Go rescue the wounded."
