Chapter 22:

Do you want to die?

Kesel

We were all in our rooms, closed, while I told them what happened to me in the past.

Brigid, Wini, Megan, Klaus, and Annie all listened to me.

"After that day, a lot happened. I ended up training a lot, got sick, and was found by Mr. Bricius, who took me in even though he knew I was from the Empire. After many months, a part of me still wanted to get back to who I was, to have what I had, to get revenge, but another part, living on that farm, even though I considered it only a passage of time, would like to live in that peace forever. I finally decided to try to avenge and then forget my past, going back to the farm or anywhere nearby, where I could have a peaceful life. But in the end, things happened, and now this place I liked so much no longer exists."

So I continued, "You don't have to understand me, or have compassion for me. I'm telling you this so you understand that the world as it is will always be in this chaos."

I stood up and continued to speak with open arms to Wini, "If what he said is true, this world is completely doomed. Even if good people exist and try to make a difference, with Numen and the Empire controlling the world, the best one can do is run from the problems of that world and do their best by living well. That’s when it’s possible."

Wini remained silent and then said to me, "I understand what you mean. I haven’t seen much of the world, but I’ve suffered enough too, but that doesn’t mean I should just run away from evil and let my happiness depend on luck."

"In my case, maybe I deserve the chaos to come to me. I won’t say that I was an example of a person, but all this world gave me as a choice was this... You, unlike me, are a good person, but chaos is coming to you in the same way. What do you think you can do?"

"Your master said that the answer is: if you still have good people and they can use Numen, then you can still change everything. So maybe I shouldn’t be acting alone, but with people who support this ideal."

"You speak beautiful words and are full of hope and kindness. The problem is that doing this is something no one can handle, Mora and Numen ruling the world."

"If that’s the case, let’s create our own paradise, a garden of Eden, with Numen, using it right, with people who think and live like us."

"And why do you think that will be possible?"

"I simply believe that this is possible. I am not the only person who should find it possible," she said, looking at me. "I believe that creating such a place is possible, because if there is a world corrupted by chaos, then we can make a place with order."

"…You’re really amazing," I said. "I had decided that I would trust no one else in this life, lived by distancing myself from everyone, and I don't remember seeing Klaus or Annie once in the past. I ignored everything and everyone every day. But now, with your answer about creating a paradise, I would really like to see how you make that dream come true."

"Okay, it’s decided: you will help me do that, and I will help you live differently, without you getting involved in your bad wishes, okay? I can’t promise that everything I do will work out, but I’ll try my best to make my ideas work as well as possible."

"Okay, I got it. Now we’ll have to accept him as a true companion," Megan said. "Blut he’s still someone from Mora, and what you’re going to do next, Wini, he can’t betray Mora, and you might want to do things that go against Mora’s will. Like trying to save the prisoners from the ship."

Someone knocks on the door.

There was a soldier at the door when I opened it, so I said, "Any problems?"

"The commander wants to speak to you. There was a meeting in the capital, and Mora's orders have already been given. He wants you to stay up to date with the news," he said.

"Got it, I'll be right over," I said.

"Looks like I'll have to leave, Wini. Whatever you're going to do, do it cautiously. Be careful."

I then went to the commander's office, and the first mate was there as well.

"Sir," I said, bowing my head.

"Is everything okay with the girl? Is she okay?"

"Yes, Mr. Commander," I said.

"Okay, let's get to the point. The Ex-General Nil Caius and his entourage of guards just left the ship, heading towards Mora. He will take a route so that he reaches the center of the country. Furthermore, Mora sent another Magus in haste at dawn to resolve the problem. In addition, a troop composed of neighboring countries will assist the groups. The objective is the total defeat of the enemy within three days."

"I see." This was very quick. Well, it was to be expected. Even though it is not controlled by the Empire of Mora, they have a strong partnership.

"Your contributions will not be forgotten. They were mentioned by me," he said. "Don't worry about it."

"Thank you, Sir Commander," I replied.

"Thank the gods, my life and probably your afterlife in the city of heaven’s immortals are assured. You can go now."

I nodded to them both and got out of there.

I am torn, aren’t I? I still have a pinch of desire with the departure of the ex-general and the possibility that he will resolve my situation and my revenge be fulfilled...

"I understand that I must not live off my power and the power must live off me. If not so, I will never find peace. I used and were used because of my power, and in the end I won nothing."

I didn't have much time to think, as I soon heard a crash on the ship, shaking everything.

Something had happened. I looked around and saw that on the right side of the deck, it was on fire with a lot of smoke.

The ship was being attacked.

And to break through the boat's protective barriers, even if it were to send prisoners, it would have to be a considerable attack.

At that time, knowing who and why was the least of the problems. I had to see if everyone was okay.

In the worst of hypotheticals, if the attack stayed, I should find some way to get everyone out of that place safely.

When I went towards it, I saw at a glance, Wini… She was going head-on, looking at me as she closed the door that led to the basement where the prisoners were.

I understand... So she's really going to do it. In that case, what do I do?

" Kesel, do you want to die?"

What? Who said that?
