Chapter 23:
Kesel
"What? Where did that voice come from? Did it come from the enemy?"
"Where are the attacks coming from?" said one person.
"I’m not seeing anyone around!" said another.
"I can’t feel any enemies around!" another replied.
Can’t the enemy be seen or felt?
This is a bit strange. Even if it’s someone with the Ability to hide out, here there are people trained in combined energy tracking(Dualism) techniques. How serious is that possible, then? Did we receive an attack from so far away? No, still, it would be perceived before contact, even for a moment.
NOTE: Combined energy tracking(Dualism) would be the combination of sensory Ability + another complementary Ability, such as Water, Earth, Air, or any other that enhances the technique and improves the screening capabilities.
After a few seconds, the first mate and captain left their positions and began to analyze the direction, ordering other soldiers and trying to understand the situation.
"And what happened?" said Megan. Brigid, Annie, and Klaus came in succession. "Are we being attacked?"
The ship is a bit bent.
"It seems that the attack caused damage to the ship’s balance," I said.
"Where’s Wini?" asked Megan.
I looked at her in silence.
"Wait, don’t tell me that..." She immediately rushed to the entrance that Wini had used earlier, but since she didn’t have the key, she pounded on the locked door; however, then Annie went to her meeting with Brigid and then managed to open it with a key.
Did they get another key? Or did they have two?
Leave it alone… I have to focus on the enemy for now.
"So, nothing?" Commander Valerius asked a tracking user who was focused, with eyes closed, arms open, and hands up.
"Something moving like animals that entered the 1km radius of our ship," he replied.
"Could they be from the enemy?" asked the commander.
"It’s hard to say…" He said in reply. "But this is the first time they’ve come close."
Someone with a telescope observed and then replied, "They are a group of whales. But there is nothing different about them."
Whales? That’s what they call those big fish, right?
I looked sideways, and at first glance saw a burn on one of Klaus’s hands.
"Did you burn yourself?" I asked.
"Oh, yes!" he replied, covering his burnt hand with his other hand. "I was near the place that was attacked. I tried to get closer to see if anyone was injured, but couldn’t."
"I understood," I replied.
What a liar. Why would he care about soldiers from Mora? Inhabitants of Uire, although never invaded by Mora, hate them as much as all the peoples who were invaded by Mora, because of the way the hundreds of soldiers treat the inhabitants as if they were an authority. Why would he check if someone was injured?
Wait... What if he wasn’t alone? Don’t tell me Wini planned this to release the prisoners?
"Klaus..." I said.
"Yes?" he replied from my side, looking forward.
"I need you to be honest about what to answer..."
"How so?"
"This explosion was your doing or Wini’s?"
"...You’re fast in your analysis, aren’t you?"
"Answer..."
"What if it is? What will you do?" He gave a sarcastic smile for the first time. "In fact, I should ask: which side will you choose, Mora’s Empire or Wini’s?"
I was surprised because he emanated an aura that invaded my thoughts. His last sentence came directly into my mind.
Connection? He had that Ability?
He looked straight ahead and said, "To be honest, I asked myself several times what I should do with you, Mr. Kesil, or should I say Kesel?"
"Who the hell are you?" I said, taking a step back.
He looked at me in silence.
"Huh? Why are you asking that? It was you who said your wrong name, wasn’t it?"
I was about to draw the sword, distressed, but then more explosions occurred on the deck on the other side of where we were.
Falls with the movement and impact of the explosion on the ship.
He remained staring at me.
"Anyway, even though your presence has been disrupting our plans, Annie was right. You managed to get us inside the ship safely, and without leaving any suspicions, it helped a lot," he said.
Annie? Is she with him?
"What is that?" said a soldier.
"What’s wrong?" said the commander.
"More animals keep coming towards us and swimming around the ship—dozens, no, there are hundreds!"
"We filled this place with bombs. Soon it would sink. Just enjoy the show," he said, turning his arms back and walking away. "Don’t worry, we won’t do anything against Wini’s life. It’s too important for our cause."
"Don’t come with that!" I got up and went on top of him. "Do you think you’re going to leave like this without explaining anything to me, you bastard?!"
"Mr. Kesil!" shouted Megan. She was coming with Brigid, coughing.
Megan and Brigid were nervous.
Huh?
Had they already released all the prisoners?
"There are explosions in some parts of the path where prisoners are located," said Megan.
I turned and looked where Klaus was. But he had disappeared.
"Wini and Annie parted ways with us halfway through," said Megan, holding me by the shoulders with her two hands and shaking me while I didn’t react. “You have to go there and meet them. Use an Air technique. I tried, but I’m not strong enough. Let’s go!”
She held my hand and pulled me, but I didn’t move.
"What’s wrong? Didn’t you hear me?" she asked in despair.
"Megan! Brigid!" I said. "What do you know about Klaus and Annie?"
"What? Why this question now?" she replied.
"Just answer!"
"I don’t know anything. I don’t remember them, except for yesterday…" Megan replied. "But it doesn’t matter... We have to..."
"I have no memory of them at all," said Brigid. "When you said before that they didn’t even remember them, it bothered me. I was the person responsible for hiring the employees of that farm of Mr. Bricius, but I didn’t remember any of them. At first I thought it was because of the stress, but then I started to find it strange, and when you said that, I was uncomfortable."
"They’re probably infiltrators," I said seriously. "And probably their goal is to get Wini!"
"Are they infiltrators? Who are they?" Said Brigid.
"I don’t know, but if they are attacking the ship, they are not on the side of Mora’s army, and if they are not on their side…” I said, looking at the ship that kept exploding from within. I looked at them. "They are probably on the side of whoever is attacking Uire."
