Chapter 26:
A song made of moonlight
It was another beautiful sunny day, with only a few lonesome clouds scattered around by the wind, interrupting the striking blue of the sky in the afternoon. The sun would soon set, giving way to the moon to take its place in illuminating the world below.
The streets of the peaceful city were bustling with activity. A redheaded teenage girl walked her dog, a big, gentle mutt covered in golden fur. A mother and father took their small children back home after a long day at school. A young couple was on a date, too busy with each other to notice anything else around them, even the curious glances their unusual pairing got from anyone who saw them.
She, with her dark skin and golden hair, full the sort of confidence only those who know they are beautiful can get away with.
He, with his porcelain white skin and hair, wearing a soft smile like he wore his clothes, yet his eyes betrayed his mischievous nature.
They entered a busy tavern, where most tables were already occupied by patrons merrily eating and drinking. At the further end of the room stood a modest stage, empty for the time being.
The pair sat down, and once they ordered food, they again forgot anything or anyone else existed.
Suddenly, applause and cheers erupted from the customers, now turned into an audience. A young woman had walked into the stage, clad in a bright silver outfit and holding a lyre, looking as if she would rather be anywhere else.
The strongest cheers and hollers came from a young man sitting at the closest table. He was tall and slender, and he shared many physical features with the performer. Black, wavy hair and almond-shaped brown eyes, a gentle jawline. They looked really similar, only the man had a much more unique nose.
The look of horror in the young woman’s eyes suppressed the man’s enthusiasm. She inhaled sharply, and offered her name to the room with a bow.
As she looked up, her eyes locked with those of another young man. His tan skin and defined arms told the story of someone who had to work hard to earn their living. They had never met before this moment, and yet, his face lit up with a smile as she saw him, blue eyes glistening with an intrigued look.
She, too, couldn’t help but smile as she sang.
