Chapter 28:

CHAPTER 27 - THE SPHERE*

CHAIN

*CHAPTER 27 - THE SPHERE - EXTENDED - CONTINUED*

_PRESENT DAY - ERKAN HIGH SCHOOL - BASEMENT - ARCHIVE ROOM_

_It smells like mold and forgotten paper. Like 20 years of student files rotting. A single lightbulb flickers, buzzing. From upstairs, student noises, laughter, chairs scraping. But down here, in the archive, it's as silent as a grave. As if the building itself is holding its breath._

_Omer Le... sweating despite the cold. His t-shirt sticks to his back. Phone in one hand, its light trembling so much the shadows dance. A dusty archive file in the other. So dusty that when he opened it, he coughed. A faded, handwritten label on it: 2025/2026 CURRENT STUDENT REGISTRATIONS - KAZIM KAYNAK A.H.S._

_He wipes the dust with his sleeve. Pages are yellowed, edges eaten by silverfish. Names, names, names... kids who graduated, kids who dropped out._

_He flips through them one by one. 11/A... 11/B... His fingers are dirty, black with dust. His heart is beating so fast he can hear it in his ears._

_And he stops._

_11/C_

_The page is torn at the corner. Someone tried to hide it. Tried to rip it but failed. He starts reading the names in a whisper, like a prayer, like counting dead._

_"Erkan... Simge... Kerem... Gizem... Bugra... Beyza... Abdulkadir... Haydarcan... Cenk..."_

_He knows all of them. His class. His friends. His nightmares. His guilt._

_The list ends. But one name is not missing, it's extra. It shouldn't be there. At the very bottom, as if added later, in a hurry, in different handwriting, with smudged ink that bled into the paper, as if written with a shaking hand, as if writer cried while writing:_

_AHMET NURDOGMUS - STATUS: TRANSFERRED? / RECORDS SEALED / DO NOT DISCUSS_

_Omer freezes. The phone light stops trembling because his hand stops moving. His eyebrows furrow. His eyes widen. Cold sweat runs down his neck, down spine._

_OMER / whisper, to himself, voice breaking, cold:_

"We never had someone like that in our class... we never... who is this? Why is his name here? Why don't I remember him? Why does no one remember him?"

_He checks the address info next to it. The ink is even more smudged, like someone tried to erase but ink was permanent._

_> Akkonak Neigh. 1432nd Street. Kurtulus Apt. Floor:3 / No:7 / Denizli_

_> NOTE: FAMILY MOVED OUT 2026. DO NOT CONTACT. STUDENT HAS ISSUES. - MNGMNT_

_He turns to Erkan standing behind him in the dark doorway, pale as a ghost, holding door. His voice trembles but is determined, the voice of a kid who finally found the bottom of the well after years of falling._

_OMER:_

"We're going. Come on. Right now. This is him. This is the sphere guy. This is Ahmet."

_ERKAN (confused, scared, looking at name that he also doesn't remember):_

"Where? Omer, that's the other side of the city, it's Akkonak, it's dangerous at night, it's... who is Ahmet? I don't know any Ahmet..."

_OMER / not taking his eyes off the list, folding it and shoving it into his pocket like evidence, like weapon:_

"To solve the mystery. To end it. That sphere... that voice we hear at night at 12:56... that cold... it's all connected to this name. I feel it in my seal. My forehead burns when I read it. Don't you feel it?"

_He takes out his old walkie-talkie. The one they used to play with as kids when playing hide and seek. Changes the channel. Static. Hiss. Then a faint connection, like old times._

_OMER / into radio, shouting, voice echoing in archive:_

"Simge, gather up! Kazim, Abdulkadir, everyone! We're moving! Come to the front of the school! Now! This is not a drill! Copy? Copy?! Ahmet Nurdogmus! Remember that name!"

_Only static answers for 5 seconds. Long. Then Simge's cracked voice, sleepy but scared: "We... we are coming. We heard it too in dream. That name."_

_EXT. KAZIM KAYNAK ANATOLIAN HIGH SCHOOL - FRONT GATE - DAY_

_Everyone is gathered. Simge, Kazim, Erkan, Bugra, Beyza... Their faces are tired, their eyes sleepless, with dark circles, like they haven't slept since Chapter 0. No one speaks. They look like soldiers going to a war they don't understand. Simge clutches Bugra's arm. Abdulkadir keeps looking around, paranoid, looking at rooftops where Ahmet used to watch._

_They start walking towards the address he wrote down. No one asks why. They just follow. Because for months, they've all been hearing the same whisper at night at exactly 12:56. Same whisper: "Remember me?"_

_EXT. AKKONAK NEIGH. KURTULUS APARTMENT - DAY - 1 HOUR LATER_

_The building looks abandoned, dead. Windows broken, walls moldy with black stains, balconies with dead plants hanging like corpses. No lights. No sound. Like no one lived here for years, but someone still pays electricity? The main door... closed. Not locked, but rotten, swollen from rain, jammed shut by time and mold. Smell of piss in entrance._

_Omer tries the handle. It won't move. He shoulders it. Once. Twice. It won't open. It feels like the building doesn't want them in, like building is protecting secret._

_He looks around, finds a thick, log-like piece of wood on the ground, leftover from a construction, wet._

_OMER:_

"Get back! All of you! Get back from door!"

_He lifts it. His arms shake. He hits the door with the wood. BANG! Dust falls from the top, concrete dust, cockroaches run. BANG! Wood cracks. Neighbors open windows but say nothing, quickly close again, as if they know this apartment. On the third hit - CRACK! - the door breaks, half falls in, revealing darkness inside that is darker than outside._

_Inside is dark. Freezing cold, even though it's summer outside, 35 degrees, inside like 10 degrees. Dust everywhere, so thick you can taste it, footprints? No footprints. No one entered for months. Dead silence. The air smells like wet concrete and something sweet, like old cologne, like cheap teenage cologne Ahmet used to wear to hide sweat. Familiar._

_And then... a light from the far inside. From what must have been Ahmet's room. Blue, flickering, breathing. Like a heartbeat. Pulse... pulse... pulse... Same rhythm as 12:56 watch ticking._

_They all run towards the room, stepping over overturned chairs, old newspapers dated 2025, a broken frame with Ahmet's elementary school photo, smiling with missing tooth._

_In the middle of the room... a sphere. Floating half a meter above the ground, spinning slowly, not touching ground, defying gravity. It doesn't reflect light, it swallows it. It's black-blue, like deep ocean, like eye of storm. It looks like thousands of souls are trapped inside, screaming silently, pressing hands on inside of sphere. Faces appear and disappear in the smoke inside. Kerem's face, smiling then screaming... Haydarcan's face, crying... Cenk's, angry... Gizem's crying... Buğra's... Beyza's... All trapped in there, banging on the glass from inside, mouthing "help us". And at center, smaller sphere, a cup? A cup full, overflowing?_

_Simge starts to cry, falls to her knees, because she sees her own father in there too, her contractor father, among faces._

_BEYZA covers her mouth, whisper:_ "What is this..."

_ABDULKADIR / panicked, grabbing Omer's arm, pulling back:_

"Stop! What if it's a trap?! What if we touch it and get pulled in too?! What if this is what happened to him?! We should go! We should call the police! We shouldn't touch cursed thing!"

_Omer's hand is trembling violently. He grips the iron crowbar he brought from home, from father's garage. Sweat drips from his forehead into his eyes, but he doesn't blink. He stares at the sphere, and in the sphere, for a second, he sees his own face too. His future face, if he doesn't break it. His face old, 80, still in this room, still looking at sphere, still guilty._

_He remembers Chapter 0. The bag. Value measured in bags. He remembers the cup full in Chapter 25, Ahmet's cup overflowing with humiliation. He remembers Efe's eyes. He remembers letter in corridor._

_OMER / clenching his teeth, eyes locked on the sphere, voice a mix of fear and rage, tears finally falling:_

"Trap or not... This is our only chance to get out of here. Don't you get it? We are ALREADY trapped! For years! In that school, in that guilt! In that corridor where we laughed! We have no other choice but to try. Either we rot here, with this thing haunting us forever, or... or we break it and finally breathe. For Ahmet. For us. For Haydarcan and Cenk we killed."

_He takes a deep breath. The sphere pulses faster, as if it knows, as if scared, blue light faster, heartbeat faster._

_He raises the crowbar high above head, with both hands. Everyone screams: "OMER NO! DON'T!"_

_He hits the sphere with all his strength. With all his guilt. With all his years of silence when he should have spoken. With all his memory of Ahmet sitting alone._

_CRACK!_

_Not a glass crack. A reality crack. Like the sky tearing, like world is paper and someone tore it. Sound so loud ears bleed, but also silent._

_First, absolute silence. So silent their ears ring, so silent they can hear their own heart, then even heart stops._

_Then..._

_The whole world... turns blue. A blinding, deep ocean blue, not white. Like a portal opening inside room, expanding. Sounds stretch, time bends, their screams slow down 10x, "Omeeeeer". The dust in the air freezes mid-flight, each particle visible. The sphere explodes into a thousand blue butterflies of light, and each light is a memory, a name, a drop from that cup, a day Ahmet cried alone. Lights fly into their chests, into foreheads, seals burning then cooling._

_They are finally saved. The loop is broken. The seal is broken. Weight lifts._

_But... as the blue light swallows them, bright, warm now, not cold, Omer sees one last thing inside the fading sphere, in center, not monster. A kid. 14 years old. Sitting alone on a bench in empty school corridor, looking at the ground, holding crumpled letter. Ahmet. Not angry. Not monster. Just kid. Smiling. At peace. Finally someone remembered. Finally someone came._

_He waves. Small wave._

_And are they really saved? Or did they just become part of a new seal? Or did they finally become humans who remember value is not measured in bags?_

_BLACKOUT. Then faint sound: school bell. Normal bell. Real world. Birds._
