Chapter 2:

Giving a speech at Tokyo U

Murasaki Misa

"You want me to pose as Misa!?" I gasped.

"Yes. You look identical to her, and thus could-"

"I'm not as smart as her!"

The black-haired woman stared into my soul. "You'd better get there then, because we don't have a choice. We can't reveal to the world that Misa got captured and can only be saved in a limited amount of time."

"Why... not?"

The black-haired woman's glasses began to crack, forcing her to toss them aside as her eyes bulged with rage. "There are bad actors out there. Bad actors who will try to off Misa by hindering us."

"Uh, why are you afraid of a bunch of actors? The stuff they use is fake-"

"OH HOW STUPID ARE YOU!? EVIL PEOPLE! THE KIND OF PEOPLE WHO DO BAD STUFF, WANT TO DESTROY HUMANITY, DON'T PAY THEIR TAXES!?"

"Why's not paying-"

But the black-haired woman's glare shut me up.

"And so, you're now Misa. Get used to it," Tilda giggled as she began undoing my restraints.

"No, keep her tied up. We need to drill some basics into her," the black-haired woman growled.

Tilda began tightening the ropes instead.

"Uh, can I use the bathroom?" I trembled.

"Do it in those filthy sweats. You'll be showering and changing clothes anyway," the black-haired woman glared.

I thought I'd try, and well... I kinda needed to go considering, uh, I'M SPOOKED AND OVERWHELMED OUT OF MY MIND BY ALL THIS! But no, instead of untying me, I was forced to sit and get history and shit fed into me for... I don't know how long until finally, I was untied.

Of course, with the army of suited men, there was no escaping, meaning I had to comply and head to the shower area they set up.

"Why do I need to shower?" I trembled.

The black-haired woman glared at me in disgust. "You smell like filth. Misa does NOT smell like filth! Her hair is also neatly brushed, she doesn't slouch, and she doesn't show weakness! Now shower within 5 minutes, AND DO IT PROPER, otherwise I'll have Tilda scrub you down. Move! We're on a timetable!"

WHYYYYYYYY!?

...

Before me in the mirror stood Misa. Neatly brushed pink hair, the snazzy leather jacket, the jeans, the sneakers, and the pink shirt to match the hair.

"Hey peeps, your girl-"

"Misa doesn't talk like that," the black-haired woman glared as she smacked a ruler on her palm.

"Um... I'm an archeologist?"

"Are you her twin or a defective clone?"

"Oi, I ain't some freak lab-"

"MISA DOESN'T TALK BACK LIKE THAT! DO YOU WANT TO BE EXPOSED!?"

"Give it a rest, Olga. Misa's one of a kind even though she's a twin. Besides, can't we just say she sniffed some ancient spice and became a little wonky as a side-effect?" Tilda sighed.

Oh, the woman's name is Olga. Never bothered introducing herself.

"No, we show something is wrong, our enemies will become suspicious. We must project perfection!" Olga retorted.

"Um, Olga? How hard is it exactly to save Misa?" I asked.

Olga turned to me, still scowling, but... less so?

"Hmm, it seems there is some hope. Now, I've drilled as much as I can into you in this short time, but you're still far from passing off as Misa. Unfortunately, time is not on our side. To answer your question, in order to get Misa's freedom, we must trade a rare river stone that can only be found within a stream near where the pyramid Misa got trapped in is. However, combing the stream is like panning for gold; difficult. Granted, we estimate Misa can only last a few days more without eating, so we'll be sending the full armada there. However, if our enemies were to catch wind, they'd hinder us or worse find the stone first, erasing any hope of saving Misa."

"But if "Misa" is fine and off doing other stuff, our enemies will follow her where ever," Tilda grinned.

"So I'm a distraction?" I asked.

"Yes, more accurately, a stand-in," Olga nodded.

"So prepare your public speaking skills cuz first off, we heading to the university here," Tilda snickered.

"NOW!?" I gasped.

"NOW! Otherwise we'll be late, and in this country, being late isn't an option, nor is Misa ever late," Olga glared as she began dragging me out.

...

I gulped as I peeked out from behind the curtain. The auditorium was packed, and worse, it was full of Tokyo U nerds. I hate Tokyo U. I tried to get in, but they said I wasn't good enough. Of course, Misa got in effortlessly, but when I tried to pose as her just to walk around campus, I got found out instantly.

Oh no. Will this be a repeat!? No, I think last time I just walked in default mode, so sweats and messy hair... Yeah, my disguise sucked, so that's why I failed. Now my hair's brushed and I'm dressed like Misa. Should be easy, especially since Olga even prepared a speech. I love it when others do all the work for you.

"...And now, our guest speaker, Dr. Murasaki Misa."

I gulped as I began walking out, hoping my smile was just like Misa's. What? I can't see how my own face looks unless there's a mirror.

Noticing a stack of papers on the podium, I quickly began reading them aloud. "Dear students, we're gathered here today for a series of lectures by some very special guests. But first, I want to speak with you. As we approach the Autumn months, the work is only going to get harder. Don't let your first semester goad you into thinking you have all figured out. You're still freshmen, minnows in the vast pond. You don't know anything yet about the world, so don't-"

"Um... Dr. Murasaki?" a balding guy frowned.

Uh, who was this guy again? I know he was the guy speaking before me, but I don't remember his name.

"Yes?" I smiled as I turned to him.

"Dr. Murasaki, why are you rereading the speech I just gave?"

... ... ...!? I'M REREADING THIS GUY'S SPEECH!? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, WHAT DO I SAY!? WHAT DO I SAY!?

"History..."

"History?"

...!

"Yes! History! Does history not repeat itself?"

The man frowned awkwardly. "I suppose it can, but-"

"-The lesson is to learn from history. Tell me, how many of you didn't realize I was repeating the words from before?"

No one in the audience raised their hands.

"Be honest."

Still, no hands.

"I see, well I know for a fact many of you are lying to try and look good, but if you fail to learn from history, you'll be blindsided when it repeats itself."

A student slowly raised his hand, then another, and another.

The balding man began to scowl, but I think it was at the students... I hope...

"I'm disappointed... unsurprised, sadly... You're all arrogant! This isn't the place where you tune out your dean's words. You listen to everything!" the man fumed.

Th- THIS GUY'S THE DEAN!?

"Now, now, isn't that why I'm here? To remind everyone of their history?" I smiled as I held up the stack of papers.

"W- Well, I... um..."

"Dear students of Tokyo University, do take my little test of mercy as a way to teach you the importance of listening. Even the smallest of details could help you seize control of destiny and stop terrible histories from repeating. Now, I must bid you all farewell, for I must head off for a dig."

"Y- You have to leave!? B- But I thought we'd have you speaking for an hour-"

"I can't let these artifacts fall into the wrong hands. There are bad actors out there that only I can stop."

Slowly, students began to clap, and then the bald- The dean, begrudgingly.

"Then we wish you the best and hope you return to us soon. Dr. Murasaki Misa, everyone," the dean sighed.

I smiled and waved as I took the chance to get off the stage as fast as I could in a Misa way. Ugh, that speech... It felt like I was stabbing myself the whole time...

And speaking of stabbing, Olga was staring daggers at me. "And what "dig" are we going to?"

"Uh, the one I'm scheduled for?"

"You're not scheduled for any."

...!?

"Let's discuss this in the car, shall we?" I nervously smiled.
