Chapter 1:
The Outcast of the Mage's Association
There are two rules in the demon tribe Ashura.
First no one leaves.
Second, if you leave you will be killed.
I broke rule number one.
Now rule two is following me.
“Stop already Meilyn Taira, you are not allowed to leave the border!” one of the border control troops told me while chasing me with a giant ant.
Demons are able to use dark magic and these crazy freaks are using it to follow me.
With a giant ant.
Why an ant you ask?
I don’t know!
I fear bugs!
I really do !
These demon patrol officers are crazy, they are chasing me with that giant ant.
I am sorry, maybe if you were smaller I could have liked you, but staring at me with those big eyes like I am some type of grand buffet, no!
I am out of here!
This tribe is crazy!
“Just let me go already and stop following me!” I screamed out.
But no choice, they still followed me through the dark forest. If I could just find the way out of here, then I would win! Just like Raiden that idiot brother of mine did, the demons are afraid to leave this forest.
The won’t come out.
Just a little longer. I just have to hold on a little longer!
I am confident!
I am a confident young woman, that’s right!
Of course I am not!
Who am I fooling?
I tried to act confidently while trying to sneak out, I felt so proud of myself just to get caught in an instant.
I even tried to act in front of Tannie. How should I introduce myself?
Ladies and gentlemen, how are you doing?
I am Meilyn Taira and I am seventeen years old. Oh just to let you know I am a half demon if you want to kill me or exorcize me this might be relevant!
Yeah, I am doomed! My red eyes already give away that I am a demon, but I heard the Mage’s Association accepts demons!
With their peace treaty or whatever they want to achieve, I as a halfie should also be allowed to enter but I already thought about it, what am I supposed to say when they have an interview.
Who is your mother?
I don’t know.
What about your father?
Also unknown.
Any siblings?
Actually I do have one, but that stupid twin of mine one day decided to leave the tribe and just left me a letter with the message: Wait for me...
What am I even supposed to do with that information? That idiot!
He should have taken me with him, why would he just go!
I mean I waited.
One year.
Then I got impatient.
I tried to run away but failed.
Now four years have passed and I finally found a way to run away just for a giant ant to run after me!
Why an ant, why not a frog or a duck?!
So I confident as I am (I am not confident at all!)
Am on a peaceful journey (It’s not peaceful at all!)
To search for my brother (To kill him! Actually I might end up killing him at this point!)
“Kuskus catch her!” Another demon's voice echoed through.
Who the hell is Kuskus?
As I turned my head around I choked.
A bee?
Kuskus is a bee?!
Now a giant bee is chasing me as well!
“Is Kuskus a girl?” I was worried. You know if Kuskus was a male he wouldn’t have a stinger so I hoped.
“Yeah she is.”
“Screw that!”
No, no I have to get out of here that sting would kill me!
“You monsters, insensitive freaks, unmanly demons, you demonic unheroic indecent idiots!” I yelled out.
I hate this!
Where the hell is Tannie when I need him!
Tannie my little pet, no I mean spiritual or was it a magical creature?
Well whatever he once told me he could grow to the size of a sea dragon or giant sea monster?
I am not even sure how tall that would be but it must be huge right?
But Tannie I am sorry you look just like a little lizard!
“They would eat you up in one bite, you freaking lizard, where are you!”
“Who are you calling a lizard!” It was Tannie, as he jumped right into my arms and gave me a questioning look.
“Where were you?”
“I took a nap but I woke up because those humans were in uproar and then I followed your scent!”
“Nap? Again! Why are you napping instead of coming, I told you we would meet at midnight to run away! Also they are demons not humans! Demons Tannie!”
“I already told you to stop calling me Tannie I am the grand Thaniel and I-”
“Shush, that’s not important now, do something already, burst out flames or toxic gases! Come on!”
I turned around abruptly and turned his face towards the giant ant and bee. They also seemed bewildered and stopped suddenly.
Yes, that’s it, show them what you got Tannie! As I watched anticipating Tannie's moves he opened up his mouth.
It’s coming! Burn in flames now you idiots!
“Burp”
“...”
Burp?
“What are you doing?! Where is the fire? Where is the toxin! Aren’t you legendary, why are you burping!”
“I think I ate too many berries."
“Berries? Forgot about them, what am I even supposed to say now?” I whispered towards Tannie who looked nonchalantly towards the gigantic animals.
“Well, ehm surprise!”
Whatever, let's just run!
“Look at you, what was all that legendary talk about?! You are only legendary at burping!” I was frustrated.
“I am! But I am still weak. Remember when you found me one month ago I was badly wounded!”
“You surely are slow at healing lizard!”
“Who are you calling a lizard, you human!”
“I am a half-demon! Not a human!”
“You species all smell the same, what's even the difference between you?”
“Forget it Tannie, I am a halfie so I can’t even use my magic properly, especially when I am afraid I can’t! It only works when I am confident!”
“Then be confident!”
“How am I supposed to be confident looking at those huge antennas and stinger! They are even smiling at me!”
“They seem to like you.”
“I don’t want to be liked!”
“Stop acting like a scaredy cat already Meilyn, don’t you want to find your brother?”
“I do, but…”
“Seriously, why did I decide on you as a master again?”
“Because I am pretty?”
“No! Because you have a high altitude for magic if you could just have more confidence!” Tannie yelled out.
“Alirght, fine! Who am I? I am Meilyn Taira, the last and legendary warrior of the-”
“That’s a long introduction.”
“Tannie! I was trying to get in the mood!”
“Just move already Meilyn, you are more capable than you think you are.”
“Right, confidence is everything! Let’s start with Plan 9.”
“Why 9? What about 1 to 8?”
“About that… I failed… miserably…”
I once again stopped and turned around. Then I reached out my hand. Ah I really don’t want to touch them!
“Do it already!” Tannie hissed.
With trembling hands I reached out for the bee and then for the ant.
They fell asleep just like that.
“Meilyn Taira don’t you dare!” one of the demons screamed out.
Sorry but I am tired already!
“Lupis” I yelled out.
With just one word they turned to stone.
That’s right I could use many different types of spells almost without chanting.
“See you can do it!” Tannie cheered.
“My hands!” I cried out.
“To make me a legendary magical creature again you have to become even more confident! So we can take them all down!” He laughed hysterically.
“You sound more like a demon than I am.”
“Be quiet human, we will dominate the world!”
“No, no we won’t!” I pinched his cheeks.
“We are searching for Raiden! Raiden! Remember? That was my condition for working together. We are not trying to kill somebody!”
“Well I do need one more assistant, so finding that boy will be fine and after that we will take over this world!”
“Tannie!”
“What more complaints?”
“No look ahead, what's that’s right there?”
I let him down and started running towards a grand vast area of trees that had a bright color.
“That’s a forest, just like this one. Seems like we made it outside of the demonized zone.”
“That’s a forest and that color is?”
“Green?”
“Green! So that's green and the sky isn’t red it’s… what is that even supposed to be?” I wondered.
“Blue! It’s blue! Right, I totally forgot you don’t know anything about the outside world!” He sighed.
“Okay listen to me I have to tell you everything while we are on the way so first-”
“Wah!”
“Hey, pay some attention to the legendary Tha-”
“Wow they even smell different!”
“Stop smelling the leaves and get here already!”
“He he sorry, sorry so where are we supposed to go now?”
“We just have to follow that forest trail down there and then we will make it to the town.”
“What’s a tow?”
“Town! A town! Oh man, where do I even start explaining!”
“Whatever, let's just go, you can tell me on the way!”
“We are screwed! How am I supposed to make her act normally until we arrive?” Tannie sighed.
“Come on Tannie!”
“Yeah, yeah I am coming already!”
