Chapter 2:

Dangling like a fruit

The Outcast of the Mage's Association

“So young miss you are a demon right?” the coachman asked.

We just made it to that town that Tannie talked about and then he pulled some golden coins out, he said I should tell the driver to take us to the Mage’s association in Alvoras.

His eyes were sparkling at the sight of the coins, were they that valuable?

Well they certainly weren’t interesting so I just did what I was told and we started to depart for the last traces of my brother.

“Yeah sir you don’t seem to be afraid of me!”

“Well young miss, I don’t differentiate between demons or humans, as you can see I am just a human, with no magic and no specialty. I know how it is to be treated harshly.”

“You are cool Sir! You are driving this Carnage like it’s nothing!”

“It’s a carriage you dummy! A carriage! I told you that already a hundred times!” Tannie whispered.

“Yeah, yeah a carriage!”

“So miss, do you plan to register in the Mage’s Association?”

“What is that supposed to be?”

“I mean you want to go there so you plan to stay there right?”

“Yeah sure, I will register!”

“Be prepared they will come at you like hyenas”

“Hyenas? Are there monsters in that place, is it a life and death battle? Of course, that’s how it is supposed to be, yeah, yeah it makes sense!” I nodded.

“No you idiot!” Tannie hissed.

“Well miss you seem to have a huge fantasy, just take care of yourself!” The coachman laughed.

“I will, thanks!” I smiled.

However Tannie looked at me perplexed. What is it again, you lizard? Why are you looking like that? I pinched his cheeks. He tried to bite me back.

“Miss look ahead we are here, you can register right there, see the person over there with the blue robe? He will ask you a few questions and you're good to go!”

“Thanks a lot Sir, take care!”

I waved the coachman goodbye as he continued on his journey. Then I turned around and was presented with a sight of a place with huge buildings. They were shining in a bright color. Was that white and blue?

Well whatever!

We are here, finally!

“Tannie we made it!”

“Yeah so first of all we should go to the entrance everyone stares at us!” Tannie demanded.

He was right, everyone looked at us.

“They must have fallen for my looks!”

“Of course not! They are scared of you!”

“But I look so kind?”

“And your eyes are red!”

“It’s pretty!”

“I didn’t say that it was ugly!”

“How dare that even cross your mind!”

“You look demonic! Demonic!”

“Well I am a demon, well a halfie at least!”

“Yeah you are.”

“Right he he!” I smiled.

“No, what I wanted to say is you look like a demon, remember? Nobody except Raiden must have come here! They are not used to you. They fear you”

“It’s not like I did something, let’s go already!” I dashed forward.

“Meilyn!” Tannie yelled out.

And the people who were looking at me from afar jolted back when I came closer.

I am not a bug though!

I even smell good or do I not?

Well Tannie and I went towards a cave-like entrance where that man in his blue robe was sitting. He seemed rather bored. His long blond hair was put up in a bun and he had something around his eyes. What did Tannie call that again?

“Tannie what is that?” I whispered towards him after holding him in my arms.

“Glasses Meilyn, glasses!”

“Ah that’s right glasses!”

So that man was wearing glasses but you could see his green eyes shining through.

He didn’t look at me.

“When I catch that old geezer I will make him pay for this! What do you mean sit here and take care of registrations! It’s not like anyone would come at this time, also why should I sit here, I should be out on expeditions already man, just because I ditched that meeting!” He mumbled to himself.

“Ehm excu-”

“...And then he said go there already Luthian, your squad should also stay at headquarters for the time being and work on the academics, like hell they would! Those troublemakers!” He continued.

“Excuse me!” I tried to interrupt him.

“...They probably went on their own without me! But I am the leader of the squad, I should be the one to go! They should sit here instead and-”

“Excuse me Sir! I want to register!” I screamed out in frustration.

“Register? Ah right sure, what was it again just tell me your name, age and magic attribute.” He replied but he just stared at his papers and yawned.

“He is as hopeless as you.” Tannie whispered.

“Who are you calling hopeless you lizard!” I stretched his cheeks.

“Okay, stop already mortal!”

“It’s Meilyn!” I yelled at him.

“Meilyn and the rest?” The man asked.

Ah right I was supposed to answer him.

“I am Meilyn Taira, age would be 17.”

“I see, by the way pets are not allowed in here.”

“Who are you calling a pet you scumbag!” Tannie yelled out.

I forgot Tannie is sensitive when you call him a pet.

“A familiar? He can talk!”

Suddenly the man looked up and took Tannie from my hands.

He moved him up and down and tried to scan him with his eyes.

“Where did you find him?” He wondered.

“In the forest?”

“Forest?”

“Let go already human!” Tannie hissed and kicked him with his tail. Then he jumped back towards my arms.

Tannie seems to be kind today, normally he would have bitten you.

“So which type of forest was it?”

“Ehm just a forest?”

“What do you mean just a–wait your eyes! Red? Could it be, are you a demon!” He yelled out and dashed out of that cave-like place.

Suddenly he held me up towards the sky.

“Ehm could you please put me down!”

“A demon! Finally, Hey you over there call the student council we have our first ever demon!” The man told a younger guy who was carrying documents. He threw them in the air and started to run towards the huge building.

“Am I in trouble?”

“A demon! A demon” the man ignored me.

“A halfie to be exact I am a hybrid-”

“Demon, we finally have a demon!” He laughed hysterically.

“Tannie save me!”

“Sorry Meilyn, I don’t get along with guys like this” Tannie answered.

“But what about me! I am dangling like a piece of fruit!”

“Bear with it!”

“Tannie!”

“...”

“Tannie, don't ignore me like that!”
