Chapter 6:

Sisters

Dance of Thorns

"I don't know who Alicia is. You're mistaking me for someone else." Elena repeated.

"She could, be a relative or something then." Rell insisted.

The resemblance was uncanny; they were like twins.

"My only relatives are my Sisters. Well, that's a lot of relatives actually. She's a Sister then? It isn't unusual for some of us to look the same. It happens every once in a while, although I don't remember any of the Seventh generation that looked like me..." She replied.

"Sisters? Seventh?" Rell shook his head. He was still confused about alot of things, like how long it has been, or where his friends were, if they were even alive. "Just forget about it for now. Let's go meet up with these allies of yours. Can you walk?"

"Yeah. I feel better now. That medicine worked pretty well. Thought most of them expired." She said, patting her bandaged arm.

"I'm gonna save that question for later." Rell sighed. The expiration date on most field medicine was ten years.

They soon emerged out of the tunnels, following a flight of stairs up into the main station. Just like the rest of the city, it was in a state of overgrowth and decay. A small pond formed in the lower areas, filled with plants, insects, and a few frogs it seemed like. Sunlight came through the shattered skyline above, shimmering off the water.

"Where are these friends of yours?" Rell asked.

"They're closing in on your location now." The light orb said.

A Shadow screamed, launching at the two of them from above, catching them from surprise.

"Dammit!" Rell cursed, turning to face the creature as it lunged for him.

A curved wall of earth rose from the ground, blocking the creature. A girl charged at it, slamming into it with a massive shield, sending it flying against the wall.

"It's over." Another girl said, driving her spear into its chest, killing it.

"Luna! Mira!" Elena grinned.

"Elena!" They said simultaneously, both rushing to embrace their Sister as Rell stood apart awkwardly.

They released her, turning to address him.

"So this is the human Rin told us about?" Luna said, tilting her head with a sleepy expression.

She had long wavy gray hair that fell to her back. Her outfit consisted of plate armor that complimented the over sized shield she carried. She was also short, shorter than the other two Sisters. She looked up at Rell, half curious, half asleep.

"Unbelievable!" Mira hopped in front of him, tossing her spear aside to embrace his hands. "A real life human. And a man to top it off!! We Sisters resemble human women so seeing something so different is!!!?"

"You're scaring him." Elena tapped Mira's back.

"Is it true that...uhmm..." she blushed, her eyes drifting to a lower place.

"What are you looking at?" Rell stepped  back, hiding the slight blush on his face.

"Okay." Elena pulled Mira away, stepping between them. "You have to forgive them, they're not used to strangers. Especially Mira."

"Don't worry about it. I'm used to weirdos in the Holy Knights anyway."

"Who are you calling a weirdo?" Mira protested.

Mira had short blue hair and ocean blue eyes hidden behind a pair of glasses. Her outfit resembled a long blue battle dress with a pair of combat trousers underneath. Her weapon of choice was a long silver spear, which had a split down the middle that almost made it a bi-dent.

"And did you say Holy Knights?" Mira asked. "So you're a Holy Knight?"

"Mhm." He nodded, showing off the dragon symbol on his uniform's right arm. "See?"

"Fascinating." Mira adjusted her glasses.

"I realized we haven't had proper introductions." Elena interrupted. "I'm Elena, of the Seventh generation. Thanks for saving my life." Elena smiled. "Mind if I ask your name, human just doesn't have such a nice ring to it."

"I'm Rell." He introduced himself. "Rell Trevells. I'm in Squad Seven of the Holy Knights."

"Nice to meet you Rell." Elena waved.

"I'm Mira." Mira bowed. "Of the Seventh."

"Luna." Luna lifted her hand lazily. "Seventh."

"And i'm Rin. Seventh. Can we save the meet and greet for later? You have half the Shadows in the city closing in on you guys. Also, the two giant ones are still up there." The light orb said.

"Ah, Elena, you're hurt..." Mira noted.

"Yeah. Rell patched me up real well though..." Elena said.

"Let me fix that." She said, walking over and placing her hands to Elena's injured side.

She summoned Water Nin. The floating runes appeared in thin air, sticking to Mira's arms and running down them like raindrops, flowing into Elena's side.

Medicine is worthless compared to healing Water Nin huh? Rell thought to himself.

"Woah, it feels better! I think it stopped bleeding too!" Elena jumped, testing her side for any pain.

"It's the best I can do for now. Should help you fight again, but the skin will be a little raw, so be careful not to reopen it." She said. "Oh, and Luna."

"Mhm." Luna walked over to Elena, pulling out a single curved blade she had tucked behind her.

"My emergency weapon!" Elena gasped. "I knew it would come in handy."

"That's because you always lose at least one, if not both of your swords." Mira sighed.

"So, what's the plan?" Rell asked.

"I'll give you guys some covering fire. Best bet is to stick to the streets and cut through the thicket of downtown." Rin said.

"Thicket?" Rell decided he needed to stop asking questions. It only led to more questions and no answers.

"I'll provide covering fire and draw attention away from you all." Rin said.

"Allright girls. Operation run away is a go!" Elena pointed, walking forward.

"Hold up." Mira grabbed her by the collar. "Luna is our vanguard; she'll take point."

"Right." Elena chuckled.

"I am the immortal shield." Luna said sleepily, pointing forward as she went first.

"I'll play support to her. Rell, I want you and Elena to trail behind us." Mira directed.

"Roger!" Elena saluted.

Rell just nodded in agreement.

"Allright. Let's go." Rin said.
