Part 5 (Finale)

A few days later, it was the eve of valentines.

I sought to distract with math homework,

My head full of triangles and cosines.

A knock at the door made my head jerk.

There you stood, smile wide and blue eyes glowing.

I threw aside the math, one should take care not to overwork.

I shouted: “What’s with this sudden showing?”

You laughed. “They said they didn’t need more data,

And that it would be best to get back before it began snowing.”

I had not noticed; with my mind so focused on finding theta,

But outside snow had lightly begun to cover the pines.

I asked if you wanted to go out, and you replied: “Yes, we oughta.”

It was cold this day, but by your side felt warm.

I asked: “Where would you like to go?”

Your eyes lit brightly even in the snowstorm.

“I would love to eat another one of those meals made with dough.”

So, to the bakery we went, and ordered the last two they had left.

“This is so good!” you exclaimed; your voice anything but low.

After the pies, you said: “If we did not see the flowers, I would be bereft.”

So we went, back to that beautiful domed garden. You danced among the petals.

As I watched, I smiled and forgot about everything I heft.

I spoke: “You are worth more to me than any precious metals,

When I am with you, I feel like I can face down any swarm.

Please let me ask you again so that this matter settles.”

You replied: “You say you want to ask, but what is the question?”

Your eyes and smile told me you already knew, but I answered all the same,

My heart pounded as I made the suggestion.

“Please marry me Lalage! No matter the flame,

Disaster, or tragedy I shall stick by your side,

I do not take it lightly or consider it a game!”

You answered: “You proved that when you ventured where you may have died,

And I have had plenty of time to think about what I ought to do;

After all you’ve done, it wasn’t too hard to decide.”

Your smile told me that your words were true,

I said: “So you will accept my love and affection?”

You answered: “Yes, and I will be your waifu.”
