Chapter 1:

Being Single Sucks

Can't Find The Perfect Waifu? Let's Make One!!

“The atmosphere is filled with romance. The bakery shops are filled with strawberry flavored sweets shaped like hearts. The flower shops are boasting their best sellers in the display window which are mostly bouquets of roses wrapped carefully with a red ribbon. Both are popular but nothing comes close to beating the confectionary stores who sells valentine-themed chocolates every day………but I hate it!!!” a guy in an office suit screamed while drinking his beer. But that is not who our protagonist is.

Shiroshii who is just a table away from the noisy man can’t help but agree with him in his mind. After all, tomorrow is the long awaited Valentine’s day and yet he’s spending his time at the bar, drinking his sorrow away to forget the rejection he received last week. Luckily, he has his buddy Takeru and Shoko to accompany him.

“You’re so lucky man for having a girl to spend the holidays with” Shiroshii sighed after he finished his beer in one gulped “You both have fun with all of the couple discounts and speaking of, why are there no discount for singles out there? We’re the ones who suffer the most at these times”.

“At least you’re a guy. Try going home to your family and them saying you’ll die an old hag at this rate. Tell me you won’t go nuts like that” Shoko complained, completely drunk at this point. The guys looks at her like she’s crazy.

Shoko, despite being single, is not only beautiful but also hardworking and kind. The problem is that she’s afraid of being seen as less than perfect by her coworkers which pushes her to reject anyone who confesses to her. The reason why she shows her ruckus side to the two is because the three of them go way back in college.

“It’s not that I’m bad looking aren’t I?” he asked his friends.

“Of course not. You’re better looking than an average man.” Takeru assured him which is true. “It’s just that you always freeze whenever you talk to a girl, well except for when it’s Shoko”.

“Is she a girl though?” He scoffed and together both guys laughed while she just pouts.

“Ask me out and you’ll be able to see how much of a girl I can be” she replied.

At that time, Shiroshii thought maybe it’s not so bad being single after all as long as he has his friends.

But there won’t be any story if there are conflicts right?

That’s exactly what happened to him.

After an hour, they decided to go home. Walking alone while there are couples everywhere enjoying the holiday doesn’t sit right with him. He thought it won’t be fair though if he hates them just for having a love life. After all, he admitted being single is not that bad just a few paragraphs before.

With a bit of smile, he carried on walking till he saw a very unforgiving scene just across the street. The girl he courted last week was laughing with a man while holding hands with him at the very same café where he was dumped.

He realized at that moment that he’s not a prideful person. Taking back his words while trying not to cry, he muttered to himself “Nope, being single still sucks” and with that, another man down
