Chapter 5:

The return

No particular plan

"That was too close for comfort," I said while heavily breathing.
"I am never getting on a bike with you again," Akira replied.
I see Mei, Sakuta, and Shihoru in front of the building. Shihoru was a short girl with black hair, she was very stupid, together with Sakuta they represented the lowest IQ in this school, that's probably why she was following him around. As we were approaching the entrance of the school I could see that Sakuta was filled with rage. I got in front of them and I suddenly hear:
"You piece of shit! You  bastard!"
I didn't need any hint, it was Sakuta shouting. I look towards him with a confused expression blinked a couple of times and let out a "Huh?".
"Don't huh? me, because of you we all had to stay crowded like rats in a single classroom!"
" Because you are a scared loser we couldn't take any showers!"
"I see you don't have time for greetings, I hope you understand that even if I would have gotten here last night Mei could not start the boiler immediately"
"Stop making up excuses you piece of shit"
I ignored him and looked towards Mei who couldn't say anything that whole time.
"Where is the pipe?" Mei asked.
"In my backpack, could we start the repairs right now?" I replied
"If this is the right pipe then yes, and I may need you to assist me. " Mei said
We all go inside and leave Sakuta and Shihoru behind. Once inside Akira started heading towards her room while I and Mei were walking towards the boiler room.
"And with what should I assist you? "
"I need to disassemble some pipes and I don't think I am strong enough to take them apart"
"Then I don't think you chose the right person for the job, I am made of paper"
"I would rather have your paper hands than that dumbass"
"Sakuta? did he make a scene yesterday too?"
"When he heard that we will all need to spend the night in the same room, let's say he was not very happy about it"
"I see."
The maintenance didn't take very long, in the end, I didn't assist with anything, I just stayed there very confused.
After that, I lit the fire. everything seemed alright, but there was still some time before the heat will spread thru the school. The school originally had a fireplace for every class, but years ago they installed radiators. The room everyone spend the night in was mine, that's why when I got there everyone was moving their mattresses back in their original room. As I said before we didn't have beds, so we slept on the floor, on mattresses. Of course, the mattresses were not directly on the floor, there was some wood under them so they would not get dirty. My room was not only mine, I was sharing it with Yuzuru and Sakuta. From my room you had access to two other rooms, one was the library and the other the archive. As for furniture, we had three mattresses, three wardrobes, and one desk that I was using for the most part. I got back to my room, I needed to take a shower but the water didn't warm yet. So I grabbed a book from the library and started reading, after reading for like an hour I got up and started heading towards the shower. The showers were next to the boiler room. Originally there were some toilets there, but Mei made some adjustments and transformed two toilets into showers. We had to remove the entire toilet, what a mess it was. Then we needed to search showerheads in the whole village. And after all that work we got a very small box where the water flows from the top. We also had six toilets but only 4 worked.

I took a quick shower because I didn't want to waste hot water. After I finished I threw some wood in the fire and went to my room. Because I didn't have any duties left for the day I spent my time listening to music with an MP3 player I found while looting a house. With music in my ears, I started organizing photos on my laptop that I found, that I took with a camera that I also found. I love taking photos, most of the time I was photographing sunsets. I was alone in that room. Usually, Sakuta will be there watching the TV. We had a TV hung in the place the board was, but the TV somehow broke, that's why Sakuta wanted a new one. Of course, we didn't have cable, he would watch DVDs, he had an impressive collection. But because the TV was broken he started using the one in the living room.  It was better that way, I liked being alone in that room. Socializing was not my thing at all. I was always very anxious about what they will think of me. So when I talk with someone I never raise my voice, I try to explain the situation, and if they don't understand I just end the conversation. I don't think I shouted for like three years. That's why I am not very interested in replacing the TV. Being alone is just easier.
