Chapter 25:

Chapter 19(Part 1) - Boss As A Driver

Shadowed Love

“Uh… so what are we going to ride?” Qeru asked Lily, and the others seemed to have the same question in mind as they also looked at Lily questioningly.

“He should arrive soon.” She just said and took a peek at her watch and they kept waiting for one minute until a van arrived.

“Hi!” Lily greeted the driver when she opened the door to the shotgun seat. Meanwhile, Hazuka and Catte were surprised when they saw who it was.

“Sir Varean!?” They both blurted out in shock.

“Hello.” Varean just casually greeted the two of them and waved his hand.

“Sir Varean, I am sorry. I didn’t expect you to be here.” Hazuka apologized and bowed, feeling guilty because it would be his beloved boss who would drive them to Yulioe.

“No problem. I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t gain something. Now take your seats.” He said like a boss and not a driver, so they all came in and took their seats.

“Lily, sit beside Catte. I will sit here.” Hazuka pushed Lily lightly to sit beside Catte and the girl just obliged without complaining. She knows that’s how it is.

“But Lily, how did you convince Sir Varean to be our driver today?” Catte asked Lily beside her and the girl just smiled and replied,

“Because I am great!”

“Uh… you know our driver?” Nagie asked them who was in the seat behind them.

“Of course, he is our lovely bossy boss.” Lily answered with a lovely tone like she was trying her best to not get into Varean’s temper.

“Eh!?” the members who was not aware blurted out in shock.

“Yep.”

“Holy shit, Lily. That’s amazing.” Cassie commented, not watching her mouth even though there was a boss going with them.

“Yes, I am indeed great.” Lily replied with a tone like it is just normal.

“But how come Catte also knows him?” Poui asked her, and he had a point.

“Of course, we are co-workers.” Lily answered, like it was the most obvious thing.

“Huh!?” they all blurted out in shock again, so Catte spoke.

“Uh.. didn’t I say that I have a part-time job? I work with them.” She said casually, and that calmed them down a little, but some of them still can’t believe it.

“Such a bright little girl, and a handsome young man who can almost compete with the world’s beautiful young men, is just working at a fast-food restaurant!? Oh my god.” Right after Jillian’s comment, the car suddenly stopped and threw them forward.

“Sorry, I didn’t notice the spider.” Their driver apologized in monotone. Lily just chuckled and asked, “Boss, are you stressed?”

“Kind of.” He said and turned to his left to speak with the cashier. Varean stopped at his own drive-thru to buy them some food with some hidden agenda.

“What are we doing here, boss?” Lily asked him, which made the group be relieved as they also wanted to ask him that question but were too intimidated.

“To buy you food, of course. The trip to Yulioe will be longer than you expect.” He said, and stated his orders. With his hidden agenda to prove to Lily, Hazuka, and Catte’s friends that his food is great and his restaurant is worth the great detectives serving despite being a fast-food restaurant.

“That looks delicious….” Jillian commented when Varean distributed each bag to them with their lunch and snack. Varean hid his smile.

“You should eat that now or it will get cold.” Varean said, and the group dug in.

“Thank you for the food.” They said before eating.

Varean was waiting for their great comments while driving and was getting bumpy. He was slowly getting impatient, as they had already finished the food but no one said it was delicious. He couldn’t ask them since it would be obvious that he just gave them that so he could be complimented. Catte, as sensitive as she is, felt that Varean somehow felt upset, so she took the initiative.

“How was the food, guys?” She asked the group and they all replied with excitement.

“That was great! It was my first time eating such delicious food!”

“I enjoyed it!”

“I loved it! I definitely love it!”

“The food tasted like it was cooked by a professional chef!”

“If there will be a chance to dine directly at that restaurant, I will and consume all of the menu!” the last two comment made Varean flinch and hide his smile of victory. The bumpy ride became a smooth trip.

“Hehe. Of course, that’s Sir Varean’s ‘fast-food’ restaurant.” Lily said and smiled at them, which made them shocked.

“Sir Varean never disappoints.” Hazuka added and sighed in satisfaction.

“What!?” they all blurted out in shock.

“Oh my god. I take back what I said earlier, Lily, Hazuka, Catte, the restaurant is worth it!” Jillian said and they felt the sudden acceleration of the car as they were pulled backwards a little.

The group laughed and continued chatting until they arrived at a place that looked like it was always a festival.

“Is this Yulioe?” Nagie asked.

“Woah…..”

“So Yulioe isn’t really what they said in the rumors.” The group was about to get out of the car when the boss suddenly spoke.

“Don’t.”

“Yeah don’t.” Lily agreed and just pushed them back into their seats.

“Huh? Why? Isn’t this Yulioe?” Qeru asked, and the others also had a questioning look.

“This is Hovle, the barbaric area before Yulioe, which makes them their guards.” Varean explained, and the group stiffened in their seats when they heard the word ‘barbaric’.

“Hey, boss! What brings you here, huh!?” not a long time had passed when a group of men walked towards their car. As a movie lover, Catte’s understanding of the barbaric is a group of men without their top shirts and kind of like they have no manners at all.

However, contrary to her belief, this group of men are well-dressed, well-built, and seem to have a temper.

“Let us pass, will you?” Varean said after he rolled down the windshield.

“And why?” the leader asked and looked at their van with a slightly grossed expression. Varean was about to answer when the leader spoke again.

“Tell me, why would we let this big fat sloppy van pass our territory and go to Yulioe?” he said and tapped the van twice with force, letting out a ‘bang’.
