Chapter 7:

Chapter 4 (Interlude II)

The Gate

4 Years prior

"So you're saying you found him again? After all these years? How?" ,the man asked. He was wearing a strange black robe and no shoes.

"You heard me right, I was very lucky. If he hadn't practically run into me, I would never have found him either."
The woman spoke calmly, but she was clearly worse at controlling her facial expressions than her voice. She wore the same robe as the man, except in light gray. The two of them sat at a small round table outside a café.
If they weren't surrounded by corpses, one could almost think they were on a date.
"That means you can continue your experiment now?" Hope hovered in the man's voice. The woman looked at him for a moment. One of her eyes was white, the other filled with a Roman twelve. She nodded. The man smiled.
"Good, that means not everything is lost."
The woman returned the smile. After a few awkward moments of silence, she looked to the sky and raised her hand protectively in front of her face. A few enraged skargna flew past her.
"Why is it always so unbearable here? There is never such cruel heat in our garden."
The man shrugged his shoulders."At least there's this." He pointed to his coffee cup. "Even after all this time, I haven't the faintest idea how they make this stuff so good." He took a big sip.
"It can't be that big a secret..." The woman faltered and looked around in alarm.
"What is it? Are those strange jokers in blue here yet?"
"We are being watched."
Now the man also looked around in alarm."Is it the creator?"The woman shrugged her shoulders."It could be someone else, I can't tell." She took a final sip from her coffee cup."Let's get out of here."The two people rose and vanished into thin air.
