Chapter 3:

Afternoon of Judgement

Try-Hard Assassin

Yaka Rubi. That’s just the way she tells people to pronounce her name. Her actual name is spelled Jaka Rubi. To make things less confusing, we’re using her actual name for the rest of the story. As stated by her last chapter, she was no different from Lia when she first attended.

Jaka was not very studious, quite a delinquent, and has little motivation to change her ways. Jaka began to learn all the ins and outs of the assassin game. Although she lived comfortably in high merit status at school, she continued to struggle in her classes. She decided that she can practically live in the school for the rest of her days. Jaka has nothing in her life to look forward to. Despite being the greatest assassin at the school, she sees it as just a random game to play once in a while. Whenever she needed merits, she’d easily get her targets, and go back doing whatever she can do to find entertainment. Sometimes, she’d lose on purpose just for a change of pace. Just like all schoolgirls that have an insane lifestyle, she has rich parents who would rather keep her at the school than have her come home as a nobody.

Jaka said that she predicts Lia will never become a great assassin, and fall on her first day. As we left off in Lia’s story, she is definitely fucked.

“Hey! Can you give me like a few paintball bullet things?”

“Identification please,” monotonically responded the guard of the assassin department.

“Did you not hear my panic attack? I lost my ID!”

“Well, you try get a shitty job where all you do is ask for identification.”

After several more pointless arguments with the poor guard, Lia decided to change her plans. She decided to get a new student ID. Lia rushed her way through the halls, seemingly forgetting her stealth mode. Luckily, she happened to not get caught by her assassin, but with such speed she was going, her assassin would’ve never shot her. Lia finally makes her way to the commons desk, and practically rams into the woman at the counter.

“Can you get me a new student ID ASAP?”

“You lost your student ID on the first day? HAHAHAHAHA!” guffawed the commons lady.

“This ain’t funny. I need a new one right now!”

“You need one right now? HAHAHAHAHAHA!”

“Are you high on something? I mean, if you got something, we could trade.”

“No, no. Why would I be doped on the job anyways? HAHAHAHAHAHA! We can speak about that after my shift though.”

“Can I get a student ID or not.”

“Alright missy. You will get a new student ID after this assassination period, which will be after 3 days.”

“What!? I can’t possibly wait that long”

“Well, you’re shit outta luck. The rules are stated that I can only issue a new student ID after a 3 school day period. I didn’t write it, but I definitely would’ve anyways. HAHAHAHAHAHA!”

“Man, fuck you, and this commons bullshit!”

Lia stamped her feet out of the commons area, but gradually wandered aimlessly. Lia could just wait out the assassination period. However, she has this feeling that needs more merits. She needs more kills. She needs to be the best assassin at this school. Lia puts no logic in her thoughts, believe it or not. She is going by pure instinct. So going by instincts, her next step is this.

“Jaka, this may piss you off, but I need your need your help.”

“Do you just interrupt people when you feel it’s necessary?” said Jaka, who turned back to her client. “So as I was saying, this whole game is a waste of time. You can try a little shooting, but seriously, just focus on your studies as much as you can, or you’ll end up being like this jackass here.”

“I don’t want to be a jackass.” Said the client, being a good boy by not being a jackass.

“Well great, so that’s one less idiot I have to deal with. Hang on, let me see if I can drop another one.” Jaka turned back to Lia. “What do you want now?”

“Oh, so now you’re using the future greatest assassin as a textbook example of this school’s asshole?”

“Okay, bye.”

“WAIT! Look, I’m sorry for the bad first impression, even though you started it. But anyways, I really need your help.”

Jaka immediately got up and stared down at Lia.

“I give advice, but I don’t help.”

“Well, you make for a shitty frie- uh, I mean, I SERIOUSLY NEED YOUR HELP!”

“And it’s about this assassin game, right? You need me to shoot someone?”

“No! Well, kind of. I need your assassin skills to help me. I lost my student ID, and I REALLY need it back.”

“Why, so you can get your merits?”

“Exactly, I still gotta protect myself. I’ll do that, and I won’t shoot anyone else.”

“But you do realize you automatically get your credits without a student ID as long as the victims report themselves in, right?” said Jaka’s client.

“Oh, fuck you!” Lia reprimanded, and changed her image just for Jaka. “Listen, I’m really not going to understand how shitty this game is without experience right? Plus, I never got to see you in action.”

Jaka closed her eyes and turn her head away.

“Please, just this once, help me. Have others given you this same request in the past?” Lia added.

“Yes,” replied Jaka.

Lia’s face turned red, and her eyes watered with tears, and shrieked.

“PLEASE GOD DAMN IT, I’M OUT OF OPTIONS! JUST LET ME HAVE THIS ONCE! I DON’T CARE HOW MUCH I GET FUCKED OVER IN THIS GAME AFTER THIS! YOU GOTTA HELP ME!”

“Alright fine!” Jaka grabbed her bag and pulled out a victim card. “So you want your student ID back. You have no idea who has it I assume?”

“Uh, no I forgot.”

“I didn’t actually need a response. I already knew you would say that. Besides, my plan would be the same either way.”

Lia followed Jaka as she enacted her plan. Jaka played the assassin game as normal. However, Lia got to see her incredible skills in action. Jaka would instruct Lia to shut up with her annoyance, and shoot her victims with such precision. Once she’s shot her victim, she’d interrogate them about the ID card, and demanded their victim cards to move on to the next target.

Victim after victim was the same. But every time, Lia’s eyes beamed in amazement. She studied Jaka’s actions. Her form as she bended her limbs in a way to get complete stillness and accuracy, while maintaining stealth. She seemed to stop her breathing, and made no noise. She didn’t even blink once until she was sure her target was down. It would be silence, then suddenly an angry response from the victim, and Jaka would sprint to her target for answers.

Lia started with staring at Jaka. Then, she actually took out pen and paper to jot every detail. It was the first time Lia actually wanted to learn. Eventually, Lia took out her phone, and recorded videos of Jaka in secrecy. Lia began to doubt her own future. Can she actually be as good of an assassin as Jaka? She’d have to be held back for years to accomplish such a feat.

“I don’t have this chick’s ID, sorry and screw you. Here.” The latest victim pulled out her victim card, and handed it to Jaka.

Jaka looked at the victim ID card, and her eyes instantly grew.

“Uh oh. Lia, take a look at this.”

“What the hell is it? Oh… NO!”

Lia had a look of despair, while Jaka had a face of pity. Lia Haruwadu. Printed right on the victim card.

“Welp, this is as far as I’m going Lia.” Jaka then sulked her face at Lia. “Unless, you know, you’re really desperate for that ID.” Jaka then pointed her paintball gun at her with no hesitation.

“No, no no no! Jaka, don’t shoot me! If you shoot me, then with all my current merits, I’m already going to rock bottom.”

“Oh, I’m sorry, weren’t you the dumbass who wanted to experience everything, even if it meant losing everything?”

“Ah, fuck my past self.”

“Lia, you really want the ID just to go into the assassin department to get more bullets. The merits will be accounted even if you don’t go there, as long as the victims are correctly identified. Trust me, the system is really good at detecting correct victims. Additionally, all you need to do is wait a few days for a new ID. In other words, you have done nothing but waste my time.”

“Jaka, come on, don’t be that girl.”

“Oh, I’m serious Lia. You need to fucking learn to stop playing this assassin bullshit. But you know Lia, you were right. Demonstrating for you was really fun. Now, just experience, I don’t know, a week at labor camp, and learn why you are never going to be the greatest assassin.” Jaka put her fingers on the trigger.

“Jaka, I swear to God.”

“You can’t do anything to me, Lia.”

“Well, you can’t stop this!”

Bam!

A gun went flying into the air. Jaka looked all over the ground for the gun. By that point, Lia began charging out of the hallway.

Based on what Lia watched Jaka doing, Lia learned one thing. Jaka likes to keep a large distance from her victims, and prepare herself for shooting. Jaka is not so great at sudden close combat. Though, at the same time, what Lia did was just a lucky guess that Jaka was not prepared for close distance assault, especially for Lia’s inadequacy.

“Shit, now I pissed off the greatest assassin. God damn it, I’m so fucked!”

Lia went from being a panicked girl to an utter disaster. She is marked for death, and is awaiting for her fate any second now. Lia was hysterical. She ran as fast as she could to the dorm rooms. As her status was inevitable, Lia was unguarded and undiligent with her route. She ran across the campus, and into the dorm hall. She dug into her pockets for her room key and barged right in as soon as she heard a click. Lia hyperventilated as she slammed the door behind her shut.

“My God, is this it? I just stay in my room for the next 3 days until the next assassination period? Or do I get fucking shot right now and go to the training camp?”

Lia jumped into her bed and shut her eyes. She just wanted to rest. However, no matter how much she tried, she kept thinking of Jaka. She kept thinking of the worst possibilities. Even if Jaka shoots her, it might not be the end of it. She would do her hardest so Lia will never become the greatest assassin. She would be there to make her life a living hell. She was superior to her after all.

These negative thoughts manifested, until a new idea was made. Lia knew how to get her ID card back. However, she had to make it quick. Lia ran out of her room, and back on campus to enact her plan

“You there, do you have my ID? Should say Lia Haruwadu on it,” Lia asked a student. When the student hesitate, Lia continued speaking with a more menacing tone. “I have a friend named Jaka, and she says you are next on her victim list, so you better give up now.”

“What? Jaka is after me? Why are you threatening me like that? I don’t have your ID, but I would give it if I had it.”

“Well, I don’t know if you’re a liar. Plus, this speeds up the process, but right now you’re already wasting my time.”

Lia ran to other students and pulled the same idiotic threat. However, after a while of doing this, Lia returned to her dorm.

“Wow, that plan was more idiotic than I thought.”

As Lia was about to drop onto her bed, there was a knock on her door.

“You know what, I don’t even fucking care if it’s Jaka anymore. I’m getting sick of worrying.”

The dorm door swung open. Lia came out swinging at whoever was outside.

“Go on, shoot me, bitch!” screamed Lia, repeatedly beating Jaka. Or, who she thought was Jaka.

“Ow, I’m not here to shoot you!” said the girl, who got beat by Lia. “Jeez, who the hell did you piss off? Maybe, whom you even pissed off, because I’m about to -”

“Cut the crap, what do you want?”

“Ugh, so are you Lia Haruwadu?” replied the girl, holding out a card.

Lia took a step back into her room though.

“Wait a second. That’s clearly a fake.”

“What the hell are you talking about? Just take it!”

“What’s the date of birth on it?”

“Um, November 22nd -”

“That’s all I need,” said Lia, snatching the card from her hands. “Ah yeah! And I didn’t need Jaka’s help for this at all.”

Bang!

Lia felt something hard and wet. It was like she was flicked in the head. She knew exactly what happened right then and there.

“Hey, hey, I did not do that,” said the girl, holding her arms in the air.

Lia violently grabbed the girl by the arms.

“Where did you get this card? You were clearly not the one who found it earlier today, yet you somehow came by it.”

“It was some guy. He told me to deliver this to the owner. He said you were at this room here.”

“Hmm, a guy, so it wasn’t Jaka. Or, maybe it was. Damn, I didn’t pay attention to her body figure.”

Lia rubbed her head on the paint mark, and looked at it.

“Was that even the correct assassin?” Lia looked back up at the girl and started yelling. “Hey, how the hell did you even know my room? It doesn’t have my name on it.”

“Well, did you perhaps go around passing your name around the school, or pester a lot of people about a missing ID card?”

“Oh. Yep, I think I’m being stalked. But by whom?” questioned Lia.
