Chapter 4:

The Lab

Void in the Realm

When they entered into the lab there was a scanning device that recorded Myra’s and V’s bodies, before they entered into the main lab.

There was a huge turquoise colored tornado in the middle of the lab that was enclosed by a glass showcase. It looked more like an art piece. It was so sophisticated and elegant, moving at a uniform speed. It did form patterns every now and then, as if it was giving out some information.

To one side of it, there was a huge model that grabbed V’s attention. “What’s that?” V exclaimed.

“That’s a Tau experiment that constantly makes decay into particles containing quarks. Even though tau is unstable, Dr. Luther uses this model to stabilize it. I knew he was working on that for a while now.” Myra answered.

“But this tornado here is pretty new and I have never heard or seen such a thing.” Myra’s eyes were fixed to the tornado while she said this. “I wonder if this has something to do with V’s arrival, “she thought to herself.

Myra approached near the tornado. She felt like it was as if she heard it calling her to come near it. She touched the glass and it scanned her hand. The whole glass had circuit design all over for a second. When she took her hand off the glass, a part of the tornado split and It mimicked Myra’s body movements. She was so excited and astonished at the same time.

V was able to see that too. He was so fascinated by that.

When he came and scanned his hand, it did nothing. It was just the usual tornado. Both looked at each other and sighed. “Maybe it’s because I am from another universe, it didn’t work,” V said. “Maybe,” said Myra and walked further in.

Ray took Myra to the office room down the hall to get the NDAs signed before beginning the project.

While walking V noticed a locked room and peeked into it and saw rows of long glass test tubes. He saw it glowing every now and then. When he looked closely, they were a series of brains that were connected to an external hard drive.

Ray approached towards V and blocked his view. “You are not supposed to be here,” it said. “My bad,” V responded.

“Shall we go?” Myra asked V. “Sure, Let’s go!” They both headed out. “I’m starving,” V shook his head while saying it. “I know a place where you might enjoy,” Myra booked a cab while saying so.

They went to a cafe right across Myra's apartment. "They have the best croissants and sandwiches here," Myra said. "Can I have a chocolate croissant and a cold coffee please?" Myra placed the order. "Aren't you feeling hungry?" V asked. "This is my go to order when I am preoccupied with thoughts," Myra answered. "I will secure a place for us to sit, you go ahead and place your order," Myra said and went and got them a seat.

They both received their orders and they were enjoying the food. V noticed a familiar face walking towards their table.

"Dylan," V exclaimed. Dylan is V's colleague who works as a Data Scientist in the Katie team. He has an anchor tattoo on his right arm. "Yes, do I know you?" Dylan asked. "I am V, we both are working for the same company," V reintroduced himself. "My name is Dylan, but I'm afraid I am meeting you for the first time."

V did not understand what was happening. Suddenly his head started aching so badly and his vision was blurred. He had flashes of Dylan from the other earth as if he was trying to connect with him. It was pitch black. "Help me," V heard Dylan's distorted voice.
