Chapter 53:

Ane's Vow/ Lana's Escape

Ane And His Seames

Ane gulped. "Well so be it." he said; clenching his fist. All eyes turned to him. "I'll make a vow!" Ane announced determinedly. Lisa smiled and nodded as he watched her. "I will find both of my parents wherever they are in this universe and gain all my memories back. That is my current goal and I'll die trying." Ane growled. Eina smiled.

"It's good to set a goal. We randomly fighting these earthly rogues was getting rather tiring." she stated. Ane's eyes were shielded.

"My father's dangerous. From all of that I might even say he's more dangerous than everything we've encountered so far put together. You guys don't need to feel inclined to come along." he said. Ene laughed.

"As if we'd let you go kill yourself....without us to back you up." the boy remarked with a grin. Ane eyed Ene and Ene rolled his eyes and sighed. "You're my best friend Ane, we'll live and die together." Ene said; smiling genuinely.

"Let's not forget about me. You're like an annoying brother, Ane. So I can't make you face your dad alone." Eina added; smiling. Lana and Lisa both tugged at Ane's shirt.

"I know I speak for both Lana and I when I say; you're not going anywhere without us." Lisa said; smiling. Lana nodded in agreeance and pouted at Ane who smiled tearfully.

"Thanks, you guys." he said. Lana then turned away and then sighed.

"I should tell you about the day I escaped, Ane." she said. Ane nodded and sat down.

"I was actually also gonna aske about that." he stated. Lana smiled sadly and nodded.

Young Lana slowly opened her eyes to her chained hands and legs in a room. "W-what is this?" she thought; watching around fearfully. "D-dad?" she whispered fearfully.

"Your daddy's not here; but I am." Jack Sword; Ane's doppelganger said as he emerged from the shadows outside the cell. He grinned at her.

"Oh right." Lana said; eying the boy scornfully. "Why have you taken me here?" she asked.

"Let's say you're a substitute. My dad wanted me to kidnap Ane but I chose not to. Why would he need that weakling when he has me!" Jack yelled angrily. He then looked away; clearing his throat.

"Sibling rivalry, then? You're basically identical to Ane so I'm guessing twins." Lana inquired with a tone of understanding. Jack stared coldly at Lana.

"Don't ever say I'm identical to that garbage. He and I are two shards of the real Ane Nickerson. He was...a dimension destroyer; from what I can vaguely remember and what I've been told." Jack said; ending the sentence hesitantly and quietly.

"Why didn't Ane tell me?" Lana whispered.

"Unlike me the superior one; he didn't remember much as yet." Jack stated to then chuckled at a thought. "Now he has no sort of memory after his pathetic attempt of putting up a fight. Even those of you." he taunted. Lana frowned.

"You bastard!" she yelled. Jack laughed. The cell door opened automatically and he waltzed in.

"My dad will check up on you soon. Meanwhile, I have an errand to run." he said before vanishing into a spiral; cell closing after he was no longer present. Lana clenched her teeth and tried to use her powers.

"Won't work." Carter's voice said. Lana watched up and saw Carter holding the rails; staring at her ominously. Lana backed away fearfully. "That Jack dare defy me? What are you supposed to be!?" Carter boomed.

"A-are you really Ane's father?" Lana asked. Carter rose an eyebrow.

"So you know Ane. Huh." he said.

"I'm his friend so you won't hurt..." Lana began until spit flung her mouth as Carter appeared before her; fist buried in her stomach.

"I'd kill his friends just so he can awaken his true power. Sadly; I have a feeling Jack did more than just....bring you here. For now you get to live." he whispered as he towered over the groveling child. Carter then walked around the cell thoughtfully to then vanish into a spiral.

"I was treated as a captive for all these years but I didn't just stand by idly. Me and many others tried to escape together multiple times. It was all useless though." Present Lana remarked.

"Hmmm; so where does Conner come in all of this? I'm assuming he is." Sid inquired.

"It was the same day I came back to earth." Lana began.

Lana sat at a table; slowly eating some food. "So I heard they'll begin experimenting on you from tomorrow. What a pity." a woman said as she sat next to Lana.

"I just want to go home." Lana whispered. "Can we make it happen, Lucy?" she continued; eying the woman tearfully.

"You know what happened each time we tried escaping before. We were killed one by one for each time by Carter." the woman answered gravely. Lana played with the food silently.

"I wish Ane would come save me." she thought. An explosion surged wind through the room suddenly and then the air then sucked into the void slowly. Lana was launched behind a pillar by Lucy who was smiling gently as she got sucked into the void and an alarm echoed through the building. "Lucy!" Lana screamed.

"Don't worry, she's okay and so is everyone else that got sucked out." Conner remarked as he popped from the pillar's shadow. Lana screamed in fear and kicked him but Conner held the foot calmly. "No time to explain; you're Lana right?" he inquired.

"Y-yes." Lana stuttered.

"What about the others?" Lana asked.

"They'll be okay but what matters to me is YOUR safety." Conner said as he lifted the girl and she stared in intrigue; blushing slightly.

"He reminds me of Ane for some reason. I wonder if I'll get to see a grown up Ane." Lana thought; smiling.

"Close your eyes." Conner said.

"Huh?" Lana asked as she snapped out of it.

"Shut your eyes." Conner stated as he sunk back into the shadows. Lana did as she was told and a cold shiver run down her spine. "You can open them now." Conner's voice called. Lana opened her eyes to see herself still in Conner's arms but the man was now soaring through the air; rays being shot at him. He avoided the blasts with ease and Lana held on tightly. "It's gonna be okay." Conner reassured with a gentle smile. Lana blushed and nodded. Conner's face turned dead serious as the shots stopped. "Eyes." he said. Lana shut her eyes and Conner then launched her in the air into a dark portal that Carter sliced immediately after as he appeared out of nowhere. Lana reappeared out of another portal far from the two brothers. Carter flashed to her instantly though and slashed but a shadow shot from the portal and counter slashed with it's claws. Conner swung his hand; scythe appearing simultaneously. Carter's dragon claws slammed into them and Conner kicked away another Carter. "What a pathetic attempt." Conner remarked.

"Is that so?" Carter asked as he vanished into elemental energy. The other Carter smirked as the shadow he was clashing which seemed to melt into Conner and slash at him.

"Yes it was." Conner replied as Carter barely avoided the scythe. Lana opened her eyes and frowned at Carter.

"Why do you insist on getting in my way ever so often, Conner?" Carter asked as he cracked his neck twice.

"I won't stand for your evil actions taking place in this universe." Conner replied; spinning the scythe and holding Lana in one hand. Carter eyes widened.

"Dragon's Breath: Fire!" he thought before flame spat from his mouth continuously as his body grew and then began to deflate again. Conner calmly sidestepped the attack and Carter followed him with the flames. Conner continuously dodged the attack across space; flames still following him. Carter finally stopped his barrage; smoke flowing from his mouth as he wheezed.

"Still not ready to use that attack; Carter?" Conner teased. Carter laughed in response and Carter pushed Lana far away with ease and a short shadow appeared on her stomach. Carter flashed to Conner and sliced with his blades and Conner retaliated with his scythe. The metal clanged and wind blasted through the void; evaporating stars far away. Lana gulped.
