Chapter 4:

Emotions

Enforcer's Defiance

Deep within the ground buried beneath each major city, a massive underground fortress could be found. Each of these fortresses spanned outward even larger than the cites. They were the home base of every Android. A place where they could go after the humans took over the surface. A place for them to live.

Uni walked down the hallway silently. She ignored the other Androids next to her as she walked forward. She looked around the room quickly before moving on to the next room. Eventually, she found her way to the massive room known as the equipment center. She was about to turn around ready to keep looking when a Battle Unit suddenly blocked her path.

"Well, well, well..." The Android said walking up to Uni. He had a smug smirk on his face as he looked her up and down. "If it isn't the latest model. And here you are covered in scratches, and dirt?" He smirked as he crossed his arm. "And to think I finished my mission without a single scratch on me?" He held a smug look as he taunted Uni.

Uni looked down realizing she was completely covered in dirt and scratch marks. She looked pretty beat up. Thankfully her healing program would begin to fix her body up putting it back together to the best of it's ability. "I was injured when dealing with the Corruption. Many Androids had been merged together into one and they put up a massive fight." She admitted. "During the battle, I was thrown through several buildings and was covered in dirt."

The Android clinched his fist slightly in anger. "You're that Android that's immune to the Corruption aren't you?" He question. "The newest Attack Model? Is your plan to make us Battle Models useless?" He demanded angrily. "Make us irrelevant? Well, I won't let you."

"That is not my goal," Uni said shaking her head. "I merely wish to-"

"Will you stop talking like that!" The Android yelled out in anger. "Stop acting like an emotionless human!" He reached out for a brief second but stopped when he realized it would be a bad idea to hit her.

"Emotions can lead to making mistakes in a-"

"Umi!" Lillian yelled out running into the room when she saw Uni. "You're finally back! I was worried when you said you were going to stay behind for a little while!" She admitted as she slid her way through the crowd of Androids until she reached Uni.

"You're an Operator Unit?" The Battle Unit Android said in surprise.

"Yep! I'm Operator-Unit-Model-Twenty-Of The City Lillian. But that names boring so call me Lillian!" The young innocent Android girl said introducing herself not even relizing the situation she was in. "I'm the Operator of Umi!"

"Operator Units aren't allowed in the equipment center," Uni said simply. "I suggest we leave before we make a bigger scene." She grabbed Lillian as she walked out of the room dragging the girl.

"What was that all about?" Lillian questioned once they were out of ear shot.

"It seems the Battle Units are starting to get mad at the Attack Units. Or more specifically they are starting to get mad at me." Uni answered. "They seem to think that I will replace them making them obsolete."

Lillian flinched slightly at that. "Obsolete... No wonder they're scared then..." She shook her head quickly. "Oh right! I almost forgot. The Captian is asking for you. He wants you to meet him as soon as possible." Lillian said as she turned away. "I got to get back to my station. My break is almost over. I'm glad you're okay Umi!"

"Right." Uni nodded. She hesitated suddenly for a brief second. "Operator. While on the surface I thought back on what you said. And as a way to thank you for letting me borrow some of your power." She reached into her bag pulling out an old teddy bear. "So I got you a souvenir." She said tossing the stuffed animal over to the girl.

Lillian was caught off guard as she caught it. "Thank you, Umi!" She said quickly in confusion. "I've never seen anything on the surface before?" She said excitedly.

Uni didn't say anything. Instead, she turned away and walked off quickly to go meet with the Captian.

In the underground fortress, the Captian's room was by far the most secure room. It would take a powerful weapon far stronger than anything the known humans had to even dent the room. Uni stared down at the metal door as the camera looked down at her. There was a brief moment of awkward silence before she reached out knocking on the massive door. Nothing happened.

Uni glowed slightly as a white light covered her body for a brief second and she stepped forward moving through the door as she simply passed through it. "Captain you wish to see me-"

"Ahh!" The Captian yelled out startled as he fell back out of his chair. He stood up facing the computer he had been sitting at. "Sorry Doctor. I'll have to call you back. Please send me that data on how the nanobots are doing inside of him." He said closing the computer. He let out a heavy sigh. "Why do I always forget I give you guys the ability to Phase-shift?" The Captian questioned as he shook his head turning to find a very confused looking Uni.

"You... You wished to see me?" Uni said again raising an eyebrow.

"Right you are." The Captian said. He reached up stroking his beard as he grabbed a lab coat on a hook. He hit a button causing a long metal table to pop up in the middle of the room. "Please lay down Attack Unit. I'm going to do the maintenance on you myself."

"I don't see a reason for you to perform maintenance," Uni questioned. "My body is only three percent damaged and it is currently healing as we speak. I will be back to one hundred percent in less than an hour." She stated bluntly. "I see no reason to have-"

"Just get on the table blasted model..." The Captian said muttering slightly. Uni let out a brief sigh as laid face down on the metal table. "Tell me Android. Do you know what exactly makes us different from humans?" He questioned as he pulled out several metal tools.

"What?" Uni asked curiously. "Besides the fact that we are built to be superior?"

"Emotions." The Captian said smirking. "We Androids have natural emotions. Humans though... They fake them. They can pretend to be happy. They can pretend to be sad. They can pretend to feel whatever they want. But in reality, the only thing they can really feel is hatred, lust, greed. We're very different from them in that aspect. Androids can feel far more. Then there's you Attack Unit..."

"I beg your pardon, sir?" She questioned curiously.

"You were made to combat the Corruption." The Captian said. "You don't feel like we do. To the Androids you are the worse human and to the humans, you would be the best Android." The Captian pulled out a large spike that he stabbed into her back. The spike glowed slightly for a brief moment. "That's why I assigned you to have an over the top emotional Operator. The Lillian Unit is very emotional. And the one, in particular, that was assigned to you? Well, she's as emotional as they come. The Doctor truly made a masterpiece when he built you. Even your flaws have a purpose."

Uni flinched slightly when he mentioned the Doctor. "Sir. The man you were talking with earlier on the computer. That was the Doctor right?"

"Yes." The Captian said. "Doctor Marlon. He's a total nutjob who happens to be the smartest man alive. He specializes in building the next biggest weapons. I was there at the forge when he offered to help build you all those years ago." He finally pulled the metal spike out as he brought it to his computer. The spike turned into a metallic-like-liquid as it was absorbed into the computer. "Fascinating. I'm getting a better read then I thought I would." He smirked as he turned back to Uni walking over to her. He reached into his pocket pulling out a large flash drive. "Turn over onto your back."

"As you wish," Uni said simply. She turned her body over facing the roof now.

The Doctor pulled out a phone-like device as he got to work scanning her. "As you said earlier. Much of your body is being reworked through your self-repair protocol." He pushed down on her stomach as a loud click was heard and it folded open showing off several metal gears and what appeared to be metallic looking organs. "It's funny. Despite the fact that we were built separately from the humans we match them perfectly don't we." He questioned as he plugged the flash drive into a port inside the stomach. A black tendril wrapped around the flash drive as it glowed golden slightly. The Doctor slipped a glove on as he reached out grabbing the now Corrupted flash drive. "You really are an amazing model. Even now as we speak your body is destroying the Corruption. You truly are humanities next big step. You will carry us forward." The Captain squeezed down on the flash drive crushing it easily as it let out a whimper.

"Is that all sir?" Uni asked pulling her shirt down as her stomach closed again. She set up buttoning her outfit back up. The Captain merely hummed slightly. "Alright, then sir. I'll be leaving now-"

"Actually. There is one more thing I need for you to do." The Captian said simply. "Up above in the city of Lillian, the humans have had a bit of a small problem. You see the Doctor decided he wanted to test his new weapon so he blew a hole in the Bestia Macht's nest starting a war with that faction. They attacked the city and I let them borrow our Drawer in order to minimize the damage. As far as the humans know they won and destroyed the nest however recently I've been getting readings that there is still some stray beast left around. I've sent a new recruit to deal with it but I would like you to go as well."

"I see..." Uni said nodding simply. "You want me to make sure the problem gets solved."

"Correct." The Captian said simply. "You can go and do whatever you need to. Just make sure the city isn't totally destroyed. As much as I despise those humans it would be really bad if an entire city was to fall... Again. There has been enough death for a few decades." The Captian stood up walking over to his computer hitting a few buttons. "See to it that you leave right away. Oh... And please. Do try to make sure the humans don't realize there's a problem. We have reports that the Courrption is being created in the city. If they suspect anything is wrong I doubt they'll hesitate to use it to try and get an advantage. Those damn fools. After you deal with the remaining Bestia Macht I won't you to deal with the Courrption before it can spread."

"As you wish..." Uni said turning away. She stopped when she reached the metal door. For a brief second her mind remembered the City, Flora. Everyone had been destroyed from the Corruption. Even the Underground fortress had not been spared. "Operator," Uni announced stepping through the metal door not giving it time to open.

"This is Operator Lillian!" Her Operator announced. "I'm getting a load of data all of a sudden? Do we have a new mission?" She questioned.

"As a matter of fact, we do..." Uni said simply as she walked forward. "Our job is to protect the city of Lillian."

"My home city! I was built there!" Lillian said in surprise.

"Don't worry," Uni said reaching the elevator that will take her to the surface. "I'll protect it. I won't let what happened in Flora happen here. I'll stop the Corruption. Even if I have to tear my way through the humans."
