Chapter 3:

The Two Captains

Enforcer's Defiance

Attributes... It's the name humans gave to their superpowers. Every person is born with an Attribute of their own. It can be anything from magnetism to flame control. Attributes are truly their next stage of evolution. It's what they use to boast to the Defiance. To them its what makes them, human.

The Enforcers use them well in battle. Using them to fight crime and the monsters. Making sure each one is properly trained for war. For combat. To them, all they care about is that it can be used to win.

Commander Lin walked down the street with a slight smile on her face. She wore basic civilian clothes now rather than her heavy combat gear. Her cold manner was gone as she seemed bright and happy. She smirked as she handed bags to the man next to her.

"It sure is nice to have a day off." She said to her companion who carried several dozen boxes that covered his face up. "I'm glad we were able to solve the Bestia Macht problem so fast. We managed to wipe out that entire nest. Hopefully, that'll cause them some stop and they'll finally leave us alone. It would be nice if we could just kill them all. What do you think Ken?"

Ken let out a sigh as he lowered the boxes slightly. "Commander Lin? Please take note that I am a weapon built for combat. I do not appreciate carrying your groceries. I'll have to ask that you allow me to place these down and-"

"Nah you're fine." Commander Lin said still walking forward. She elbowed Ken slightly. "Besides. I can think of a better way to make sure your body is at a hundred percent then to have you carry my things!" She nodded her head as if it made perfect sense.

Ken looked good for a guy who suffocated on his own blood yesterday. There wasn't a single scar on him. In fact, the only thing that was different was the fact that his chest no longer moved up an down when he breathed. The doctor decided that the lungs were a weakness and so he removed them. Now it would be impossible for Ken to suffocate to death.

"Oh relax a little Ken." Commander Lin said letting out a slight laugh. "You just came back from the dead. Live a little."

"That reminds me. How exactly was I terminated last mission?" Ken questioned. "I am unable to remember."

Commander Lin went silent for a brief moment before giving a shrug. "You died completing your mission." She said simply. "I can't imagine any normal Enforcer member would have been able to fight so hard on their death bed. Truth be told I'm a bit jealous Ken. You die in a mission then show up the next day stronger. I die in battle and that's it. Lights out. You really have no idea how easy you have it is for you..."

"I should avoid termination as much as possible," Ken said quickly as a way to reassure her. "I must record my battle data as much as possible so that the next me can evolve into the next stage of a human. As such dying would be-" He stopped when Lin held her hand up suddenly.

A ringing sound echoed out as Commander Lin pulled out her phone. "Hello?" She said into the speaker. She nodded her head patiently for a few seconds. "I see. Roger." She clicked the phone shut as she turned to Ken. "Well, congrats Bio-Man. You've just been assigned to another mission." She said smirking. "And I'll be coming with you."

"Long term or short term?"

"Long term..."

"I see..." Ken said nodding. "In that case, I suggest we leave as soon as possible." He said simply.

"Right... Just as soon as I get a few more things!"

Meanwhile

Dawson Blight entered the room as he let out a heavy sigh. He held several papers in his hand as he approached the man in the room. "Jackson." He said speaking loud and clear as threw the papers onto the table. "I got some good news and some bad news." He said simply.

Jackson Storm turned to his long-time best friend as he raised an eyebrow. "Really? What is it?" He asked curiously as he raised an eyebrow?

Dawson scowled for a brief second. "They put us on babysitting duty." He said letting out a heavy sigh. He slid the files over to Jackson. "Good news... We get to totally beat the shit out of some kids as long as we claim its training." He sounded way too happy about that part.

"Aww! Really!" Jackson whined out. "For what! Why would we be assigned to train some stinking kids! I mean we're both Captian level! Shouldn't we be fighting on the front lines against Prince level Bestia Macht!" He git the table slightly. "Man! I'm gonna be the crap out of those kids to blow off steam..."

"Apparently they didn't like how we completed our last mission..." Dawson said giving a half-hearted shrug. He briefly remembered how he suplexed a Bestia Macht while Jackson dropped a building on another one. "It probably has something to do with the collateral damage we caused to..." He said shrugging again. "Maybe causing six million dollars in collateral damage wasn't as cool as we thought it was..."

"Aww, but we looked so cool!" Jackson complained as he took the files. He let out a slight sigh as he started going through them. "So we got six kids to-" He stopped suddenly as he read off one of the files. "Ken? No last name given? He's being accompanied by a low ranking Commander as well? Commander Lin, who we are expected to protect at all costs?"

"Why would they have a Commander join our team?" Dawson said taken aback. "That doesn't seem right. We should only be getting new recruits this year? And why doesn't he have a last name? Surely the Enforcers would be able to figure that out."

"Speaking of new recruits! Check this one out. Kitsune Nine!" Jackson said laughing slightly. "I get to boss around the son of a Noble!" He gave off a mad chuckle as he raised his hands.

"You know you're a Noble as well right?" Dawson questioned. "Maybe he'll turn out like you and be a nice Noble- Ahh who am I kidding. He's going to be a stuck up asshole."

Jackson just shrugged slightly. "Who cares." He said in a cocky manner as he stood up. "Let's go meet our new students!"

Dawson smirked slightly as he cracked his knuckles. "Let's."

Meanwhile, in the Enforcers headquarters, Commander Lin walked ahead of Ken as she looked down at her phone. "So according to this, we're looking for training room two-B?" She said. She looked up at the various training rooms that the Enforcer had access to.

"Commander, may I please set these groceries down now?" Ken questioned now subjected to carry even more bags. His Commander ignored him as she walked up to a room. Ken scowled as he followed after her.

"Here we are." She said smiling brightly. "You know. It'll be fun training under a Captian Class again." She said. "I still remember my old days of training under my Captian. She was really scary... She fought with these two swords and once fought a Prince class by herself... She also kept making me carry her groceries all the time. Said it was good training."

"Well, at least that explains why I'm doing this..." Ken said sighing slightly as he followed his Commander into the room. The room they entered was massive and had nothing but white walls and a white roof as well as a white floor. Five people stood in the room all of them looking extremely bored.

"Oh, a newcomer! Are you our Captian?" A girl asked facing the Commander.

"No!" Commander Lin said laughing slightly. "I'm one of the recruits like you!" She said smiling.

"Aren't you a little too old to be a recruit?" A snobbish looking boy said raising an eyebrow. "You're like an old hag?"

Commander Lin fell to her knees clutching her heart in shock. "Old! Ken do I look old to you!" She asked grabbing onto the boy's leg.

"As of my creation, you are the oldest person that I have seen-" Her fist came out as she punched Ken sending him across the room causing him to slam into a wall.

"Freaking Bio-Bastard..." She hissed out standing up in anger. "I'm twenty-six! I'm still practically a teenager!"

"Isn't the normal recruitment age eighteen?" The same boy from earlier questioned. Commander Lin decided she didn't like him very much.

"Maybe we all got off on the wrong foot." The girl said quickly. "I'm Severa!" She said introducing herself. "That guy's Kitsune. You'll have to ignore his attitude. He's a Noble so he believes he's naturally better than everyone!" She said casually as she shrugged.

"I'm Li-Na!" A girl said holding her hand out to Ken who was still on the ground. He accepted the hand pulling himself up.

"Well since your giving out names I'm Nick!" A boy holding a wooden sword said. He looked calm and collected and held himself up with pride.

"And what about you?" Commander Lin said turning to the last boy in the room who hadn't introduced themselves yet.

"We haven't been able to get him to talk..." Severa said shrugging.

"Yes, Mr. Edgy thinks he's too good to give us his name," Kitsune said shrugging slightly. "Instead he's going to stand there with his arms crossed and his eyes closed."

The boy just grunted slightly. "My names not important. Just call me Cloud..." He said opening his eyes reviling two cloudy blind eyes.

"See he's edgy," Kitsune said rolling his eyes. "I would just avoid him if I were-"

The door to the room burst open as it exploded off the hinges. Loud music played as Jackson came sliding into the room swinging a massive double-bladed greatsword. "What's up brats!" He said simply as he slid in. He stood up quickly a large smirk on his face. "Alright, Dawson! Your turn to make a cool entrance!" He hollered back as the kids looked at him in confusion.

"No..." Dawson said simply as he plainly walked into the room with absolutely no style at all. He simply just crossed his arms as Jackson pouted. "Alright. Listen up." He said simply. "I know that this is all a lot to take in but I'll try to explain to the best of my abilities." His eyes glanced over everyone before finally landing on Ken. "We are Enforcers. It's our job to battle against the Bestia Macht as well as other illegal organizations. Jackson and I will be your teachers. It's our job to make sure you don't die as well as mold you into great Enforcers. Starting today you all become Enforcers." He announced. "Also starting today you are all going to be put through such intense hell I'm confident I'll be able to break at least one of you mentally."

"Wow, his speech is so much better than my old Captian's..." Commander Lin said simply. "You know... Besides the breaking someone mentally part."

"And then there's you two," Jackson said turning to look at Ken and Lin. "One of you is a Commander and the other one is someone who has never taken the entrance exam test and was just handed to us." Jackson gave a slight shrug as he looked at Ken. "I look forward to testing out how good you are. My Grandpa seems to think your special."

"Your grandpa is Master Storm correct," Ken stated bluntly. "Leader of the Enforcers."

"Yeah but don't think I got the title of Captian because he's my grandpa," Jackson said smirking slightly. "I worked hard to get to where I am."

"So what do we do now?" Severa asked.

Dawson smirked for a brief second before it faded and his face went back to being blank and unreadable. "Nows the fun part..." Dawson said simply as he moved his arm back and forth popping all of his muscles.

"And what's the fun part?" Kitsune asked concerned and feeling uncomfortable about the way Dawson was stretching and the predatory look he was giving the students.

"We're gonna beat the ever-loving crap out of you!" Jackson said punching his hand as electricity came spilling off of him.
