Chapter 15:

The Tale of how I got Pursued by an Angry Demon Lord(Part .1)

The Tale of how I was Reincarnated as a Hero but Decided I'd Help the Demon Lord Instead.

In the town of Towyn, far from Castle Lothrin, Lux was sitting in what appeared to be his new office, ever since the previous mayor decided to follow the path of the masochistic demon worshiper and forfeit his property to him.

For once, he appeared to actually be going through paperwork, reading through various books with the help of the piercing sun's rays, though the reason for this was Usagi wasn't letting him stop.

"You’re the appointed Mayor, you have responsibilities." She scolded Lux the second he began to slack.

"Yes ma'am," He groaned.

Suddenly, a letter appeared on Lux's lap and Makono entered his office at almost the same time.

"What's it say?" Makono asked hastily.

"How'd you even know? The spell's called invisible message for a reason." Upon being stared at by two pairs of scolding eyes, Lux cracked under the pressure. "To be completely honest, a good chunk of it is dedicated to insulting me because I misjudged the distance between our teleportation circle and the castle. Each of his letters have started this way. He's apparently in the castle undercover as Eldin Cross, a former adventurer who seeks to join the demon slayers. He's not alone either, he says that he's with three others; Gurak, a former imperial guard with the ability to teleport, Laif, an elf whose village was destroyed by terrorists, and Nyx, a shy mage girl. He also mentions that he hasn't seen the other two in a fight so he doesn't know their powers or capabilities yet, but he plans on learning. There's some filler thrown in there but that's about it. Well that, and he mentioned The Chained Demon. Mean anything?"

Makono knew exactly who The Chained Demon was, but she had hoped that pleading innocence would buy her some more time while she enacted her plan. "Never heard of them," Makono replied in the most deadpan voice she could muster given the circumstances. "If that's all, I'll be leaving. Being a demon lord is taxing on the mind."

Once Makono left, Usagi spoke to Lux, "You can tell she's lying, right?"

"Of course, but what are we gonna do about it?" He asked.

"I'll tell you what we're not gonna do, and that's slack off!"

After a loud gulp, Lux continued with his paperwork.

As Makono left the town hall, Miyamoto was waiting just outside the door, leaning lazily against the wall. "Hey there Bulbyr, still plotting the great escape?" He asked, nonchalantly cleaning his nails.

"Of course I am. Why? Did you finally think of a decent distraction?"

"There could be no greater. Graxia went off in search of that hero right? Well I have it from a reliable source that she found him and she's on her way back as we speak. Her arrival, plus Musashi's, the whole town will be celebrating. That's when you can leave."

"Why are you helping me?" Makono asked desperately.

"I could lie. I could say that I'm doing it because it's the right thing to do. I could say it's because you’re my friend and this is what you want. But if we're being honest it's because of your blasted aura of malice. Ever since I've been around you I've been feeling stuff, and I don't like it. The head priestess died to revive me and it sucks that she's dead, but that doesn't mean I should feel so bad about it. In other words, I'm helping you because I want you gone." Miyamoto answered mercilessly without even allowing Makono his glace.

Interrupting the two, Luna ran over to Makono. "So what did he say? Our little lover!"

"Shut up perv! He's not our little lover."

"Geez, talk about greedy. I'll have you know we've already kissed!"

"That's not what I... Wait what!? When did you two even have time!?"

Miyamoto took this prime opportunity to walk away before he got involved.

Surely enough, just as Miyamoto predicted, Graxia strolled back into town with the most prideful grin on her face as three other guardsmen and Musashi followed, each with deadpan expressions on their faces.

"Aha! I did it, I have convinced Musashi the hero to join our cause." Graxia shouted pridefully as the town cheered in excitement. "There is one issue though, I promised him the world's biggest welcome party!"

" Oh, so you were serious then? How wonderful. Not to be a cliché or anything, but do they have sake?" Musashi asked, wishing he was anywhere else.

"Nope. But we have a weird rice wine called... Saki? Sock? Something like that." Graxia pondered mindlessly as she scanned the area in search of a certain fox demon lord.

"That's sake."

"What an idiot." Makono taunted.

"MAKONO!!!" Graxia shouted at the top of her lungs before charging Makono like a bull. "I almost forgot about your adorable face!"

A quick sidestep on Makono's part made Graxia dive-bomb the floor with enough momentum to make her slide.

"What the hell, you perverted lesbian? If you hit me, I would've died!"

Graxia just giggled and looked back at Makono, her face covered in mud. "I knew you would dodge it."

"Wow, you’re even creepier then I remember." Luna sneered.

"I hate to interrupt your family reunion, but I was promised food... And sake."

"Right. Let us not postpone the festivities!" Lux chanted as he approached Musashi and Graxia to welcome them.

"Yeah right. You just don't want to do your paperwork," Usagi said in a judgmental voice, causing Lux to freeze in place.

Fortunately for him, even though Usagi was correct, she couldn't exactly deny Musashi a welcoming party.

For the first time since anyone saw him, Musashi seemed to be having a genuine good time at the party, the barrels of sake he was drinking no doubt had a hand to play with that.

Volx charged past the observing Makono and lifted Graxia up with a hug. "Oh, my Graxia returns! Did you grow?" He asked

Makono gave everyone until nightfall to drink and hopefully be too drunk to notice her. Just in case though, she donned a dark cloak to hide her from prying eyes. Just as she reached the door she felt a hand on her shoulder stopping her in her tracks.

"Your going after him, aren't you?" Luna asked revealing herself as the one who stopped Makono.

"..."

"It's okay, I would too but I wasn't blessed with any powers like my sister, or born with abilities like you. You should go after him just to keep him safe. And once you find him, give him this." Luna finished as she handed over a cup 'o' noodles.

"Thanks... pervert." And with that, Makono darted off into the night, and Luna returned to the party.

Back in the town hall, a drunken Volx began rambling on. "Now, you might find this a little hard to believe given their adorable rivalry, but believe it or not, dear Luna's first words were, I love you big sis. Pretty damn cute, right?"

"Here here! Stinking adorable, I'd say!" Lux agreed, barely keeping on his feet as he slammed another drink.

"Dad! Shut up!" Luna and Graxia shouted in sync.

Soon, everyone was collapsed in various places due to exhaustion from the parties activities.

"Wow. I don't remember a damn thing about last night." Musashi said with a sense of pride before passing out again on a table.

"Where's Makono?" Lux groaned as he struggled up and surveyed around for Makono.

"Probably somewhere. Can we look for her after the world stops spinning?" Usagi complained.

"Bulbyr left. I'm surprised you couldn't tell, Lux, though I suppose you’re a partial demon so her aura is probably unnoticeable for you. Musashi is who I'm really surprised by." Miyamoto said relatively unaffected by the amount of drinks he had the previous night.

"Why'd you let her leave? If Lothrin gets her it's over! You, Tokuma, Musashi, and the others will all go back to your world. I thought you wanted to stay!" Lux shouted in protest.

"Relax. Makono is a big demon lord, she can take care of herself, besides now we know when she left, where she's going, and most importantly, " Miyamoto held in his hand a tuff of crimson fur. "how to track her. If she's in trouble we'll be able to help."

Lux growled in disdain. "Musashi, I know your new, and probably a little confused, but I need you to track down Makono and protect her."

Musashi stumbled back up to his feet, obviously still under influence. "Yessir. I'll find her. Don't worry, this is why I joined." He slurred before collapsing again. "Damn dragonflies keep biting my knees!"

"Once you’re yourself, that is." Lux added cautiously before turning his attention to Miyamoto, "We need to talk."

Miyamoto kicked off the wall and stared directly into Lux's eyes. "Fine, fine, pretty boy, but I don't regret what I did. Right now, I don't regret anything."
