Chapter 4:

Chapter 4: Land of Milk and Honey

Mirage Oasis

The two Security bots walk into the container. Their heads slowly spun, scanning the container for intruders. One of the bots finds nothing and heads back, the other bots focus on one of the stacks of bee hives. It stands above deeply scanning it, looking for anything abnormal. Then it decides it found nothing and leaves the container. We move the Beehive out of the way for us to get up. Earlier we moved a stack of hives in-order to hide from security. Thanks to Keith, we found out that the security bots are the first things that check the containers. So we made a pile of hives to hide from them.
Moving Through the area, it's just as bright as the container, but much cleaner and well maintained. I'm almost taken back by the contrast between this one and the one planet side. The area is similar to the others except no Smog covers our view. We make our way through this area much quicker than the last one.
We sneak through a long industrial corridor and make it to a heavy door. Peaking through it we see that it's an empty reception hall.
Entering the area we see that the hall is in the shape of a semi-circle where the flat end of the room is lined with computers. The ceiling was incredibly high and in a semi-dome shape. On the opposite side are all windows able to see through the vast space and earth.
The earth is nothing but a brown ball of smog, resembling that of rotten fruit. They say there was a time when it looked like a marble, a jewel with life and opportunity. Now it is just a dead planet necrotizing in space.
"What's wrong, you notice something," asked Silicon
"No" I answer "nothing important."
"well then come on before someone comes here."

We enter a small office connected to the hall, looking around I notice something strange. We haven't seen anyone, only the occasional security bot but no guest.
"hay, where is everyone?" I ask
"probably somewhere indulging themselves," Lieutenant remarked
"the other area we just passed was most definitely a reception desk, but no ones there. not even a bot is operating the desk."
"When was the last time you heard of anybody going to Mirage Oasis." Silicon replied, "The place is an exclusive club only for people with high income, no one has reached that level in years."
"that doesn't make any sense, and besides that doesn't explain where everyone is."
"hay shut up" whispered lieutenant "have you forgotten that we are supposed to be sneaking through this place? Shut up and keep moving."
In the back of my head, something is yelling at me that there is something wrong. unfortunately Lieutenants is right, I don't have the time or luxury to think about that now. I'll ignore those thoughts for now.

After getting past some office space we make it through what looks to be a medical facility. sneaking through I notice that once you enter the resort through the reception you immediately come to this infirmary section. Not only that but I also find the rooms here discomforting. All I have been seeing have been surgical rooms, no X-rays, or just standard doctors' offices. Even stranger is how similar each room looks as if it's only meant to perform one type of surgery. As I keep thinking about it I notice how large this area is, it almost feels like it takes up a majority of the resort.
Again that feeling in the back of my mind crept up, screaming at me that something is wrong. Gnawing at my skull screaming, this isn't right turn back.
Even though all my senses are lighting up telling me to pull out of this job, I just can't do that. This is Mirage Oasis, the haven for all the Oligarchs that turned that once crystal marble into a rotten apple. Everything I can dream of is here, just a little bit more.

We stop in one of the surgical rooms by Lieutenant. "Look here, an air vent, we can use it to sneak through the resort without using the hallways."
"Good, it will be less risky." Silicon attempts to open the grate to the vent but with all her might she could not do it. Until Lieutenant comes in to help and rips it from its hinges.
Everyone enters the vent, I was about to follow until I saw something. I spotted what looks like a person, but something about them was odd. The way they walked almost felt, dramatic and overacted.
I only saw a glimpse but the face almost felt uncanny in some way that I cannot describe. It was then I felt a tap on my knee. I look down and see Silicon motioning me to get into the vent.

The vent is slightly frigid, but our clothes were enough to keep us comfortable. It wasn't small that we had to crawl through but it was enough for us to walk while we were crouched. What felt really out of place was how dusty it was. It almost feels like the vents were completely ignored when maintaining the place.
As we kept going the dust didn't stop, it almost felt like the deeper we went the less maintained these vents became. We kept crawling through the vents but I began to notice that Silicon was starting to slow down and lag behind Lieutenant. Then she stopped started coughing uncontrollably. I quickly went to her. "where's your inhaler" I quietly yelled at her.
She taps her pocket indicating where it is. As I reach for it I heard a loud creek sound.
Then a rumble, the vent collapses into the floor below.

I quickly get up and realize that I fell through into the middle of a semi-crowded hallway. I quickly panicked thinking of a way to get out of this I slowly realize, that no one paying any mind to me.

They all ignore me as if I wasn't there.
