Chapter 21:

Epilogue: Jairo Clyde, the Assassin

GLAMS Adventure: The Girl and the Mysterious Crystal

Jairo POV

I, as a Clyde member, was born to follow orders. I was trained to be strong and cold. I never really considered making friends with other people, but... I have a sister whom I really looked up to and I really admired her image. I was only five years old.

“Jairo, you okay?” She was so passionate and kind. She was also born to kill, but she... taught me how to appreciate things in life.

“Friends?” I asked her.

“Yeah.” She said.

“We can’t have those. Father said so himself.” I explained.

We were not allowed to have friends. We’re assassins; we’re killers.

“We can.” She said that with a smile on her face.

It made me realize that I could have friends... someday... one day...

“You were going to be an agent? Are you out of your mind, Mirloune?!” Father scolded her. He was against about her being an agent. As an assassin, it’s a disgrace.

“Don’t hurt her, Father!” I insisted.

“She was just... trying to take the path she wants.” I added.

But that wasn’t help at all.

“Mirloune has somewhat changed Jairo. She’s influencing him. As the gifted child of our family, Jairo must be separated from her!” She was tortured and locked up. I, unable to do anything that time couldn’t even save her.

But Mirlo...

While she was tortured...

Didn’t even scream or shed a single tear...

“Are you okay, Mirlo?” I asked her.

“Don’t worry, Jairo. It doesn’t hurt.” She replied.

I was talking to her while guarding her cell from the outside.

She was strong.

My sister was an assassin too. She was a very respectable one.

One day, someone went to our house.

“Let me through.” Someone, I couldn’t fully remember, managed to save her from our fates. He managed to stop our family’s full force with just him alone. He was incredibly strong. It’s as if I was watching a light that took a form of a human. From the moment I saw him, I already knew that he could save my sister.

I managed to face him, in order to stop him.

“Who are you?” I asked.

His eyes were shining. It was very beautiful.

“Out of the way.” Behind the door I’m guarding was my sister’s cell.

He’s dangerous. I can’t let him pass. He’ll hurt my sister.

“Behind this door is the one I wish to protect. I can’t let you near her. You’re far too dangerous.” I said that to him.

When I said that, he seemed surprised. But minutes later, he uttered these words.

“Me too.” I was dumbfounded.

He passed through me while I was frozen at the moment.

“Wait!” I grabbed his hand.

“What do you mean?!” I exclaimed.

That time I believed... I believe you could save her. You must take her away where she could be happy... where she could follow the path she wants to take. I will believe in you. I will believe in you, so you must absolutely protect her.

I knew... that protecting her was not mine to fulfill.

I looked at him seriously.

“Don’t worry, I’ll protect her.” He patted my head.

I was young and inexperienced. I was living a miserable life. But... I was never lonely because of my sister. She means so much to me.

“I came to get you.” He smilingly said.

“Thank you.” My sister thanked him.

My sister hugged him as if she’s been waiting for that person. I knew that my sister loved him so much. So much that she’s willing to abandon everything as an assassin just for him.

I was there watching them that time.

“Ja... Jairo.” She called out to me.

“So he was your brother?” The man asked.

“Yes, his name is Jairo.” My sister replied. She introduced me to him.

“Haha, what a coincidence! My sister’s a lot like you.” He said and smiled at me.

Such a bright smile. It was my first time seeing a pure smile. I couldn’t forget his smile, but I... couldn’t remember what he looked like.

I didn’t know why.

“Live a happy life, Mirlo.”. I said.

“Do you wish to stay here, Jairo?” she asked me.

“Yeah...” I said. Then, she hugged me.

“One day, you’ll find someone. You’ll be happy too. You’ll experience the happiness and the sadness life can bring. Until then, hang on. Live a strong life, Jairo.” She was crying.

“Ye...ah.” I was crying too.

They left.

Three years later...

I was hired to rescue some children in an orphanage. It was because of a sudden fire.

“This is not a work of an assassin, Father!” I said.

“Are they mocking us?!” I added.

“This is job, Jairo!” I went even if it’s against my will.

I was standing on the roof of the nearby house. Watching the fire burn the whole orphanage down.

“There’s no idiot who would want to rescue the children in there. The fire’s too much.” I was about to go back, but...

I saw the idiot enter the orphanage.

“Is she a real idiot?” I asked myself.

Because of that, I entered the burning orphanage too.

“Where did she―?” I was cut off when I saw her helping the other children.

“Hang in there! You’re going to be okay.” The children were all coughing because of the smoke.

“Above you!” The one wearing old glasses shouted to warn that idiot.

The ceiling was about to hit her, and luckily, I managed to save her.

“Waaaaa―!” The other children reacted.

“Watch your head!” I yelled at her.

“Nevermind me. Let’s get the kids out!” She said that.

YOU’RE A KID TOO!

It’s my first time seeing a girl who doesn’t care about herself just to save others.

We managed to get out alive. Yeah, because of my fast thinking of course!

“Are you okay? Why did you enter the building alone?!” There were people waiting for her.

“Are you all okay?” That voice was...

... my sister’s.

I suddenly looked at them, and yeah, it’s really her.

“Stop over reacting. I’m fine.” The idiot said.

“Anyone would over react if their little sister enters a burning building without any permission!” My sister saw me.

“Jai...” She’s living a good life. I was happy.

“How are you, Jairo?” She asked.

“I’m fine.” I said.

“Really?” She smiled, when she saw me with the other kids.

“It’s not like you to enter an almost toasted burning building. What made you do it?” She asked.

“Well...” I looked at the girl who entered without even thinking.

“It’s because of her?” Mirlo asked.

“I’m out of here.” I said.

Before I left,

“Hey, thank you! I owe you!”

The girl said that. Then, I saw Mirlo smiling again.

What’s with that?
