Chapter 22:

Epilogue Part 2: Jairo Clyde, the Assassin

GLAMS Adventure: The Girl and the Mysterious Crystal

Two years later, Mirlo came back to our house. She was dripping with blood.

“What happened? Are you okay, sister?” I was very worried.

“Jairo...” I didn’t know what really happened. My memories of that man seemed a bit hazy. My sister cried.

I know that he’s the reason behind her tears, but I couldn’t fully remember him. I could hear his voice in my memories, but I couldn’t picture out his face. It’s really mysterious.

After that, Mirlo became a freelance writer.

But still my sister died... Maybe it was because of the sadness she couldn’t almost bear.

But before she died, she told me something.

“Jairo, please...” She begged me.

“He left her sister alone. Please find her for me, Jairo. If it’s you, I know you’ll keep her safe.” Without knowing anything, I promised her to find that girl.

“I promise you. I’ll find her. I’ll keep her safe.” I promised as I held her hand.

“Thank you, Jairo.” That was her final moments.

She died.

I didn’t know how to search for that girl, so I agreed to become an agent. I became an agent to search for the one I need to keep safe as a promise to my late sister.

Although Father didn’t permit me to leave my life as an assassin, I chose to become an agent.

I became an agent when I was 12 years old. I was assigned with Nitsuji, Nee-chee, and Shinsui. I heard that the three of them became agents one year before I became one.

Nitsuji and Nee-chee are twins. But Nitsuji was our team leader. Actually, I function alone, so I did have a hard time coping with them as a team. Shinsui was a spoiled brat and on the day that we became a team, we had a fight.

But never mind that, I got over it.

Two years later, we were partnered to several normal girls. At first, I was shunned since these girls were just average girls. They’ll just pull us down.

We were enrolled in a university as transferred third year students, but... I wasn’t expecting that the girl I was looking for... was actually there.

At first, we were total strangers to enemies... to friends.

She never really agreed to be an agent. I didn’t care though, but there was this one time. I saw her.

Although she felt like she doesn’t care for anything, she actually wanted to save other people. She saw a guy being beaten up by a group of rich delinquents.

***

“Is that the school’s another scholar?”

“You seemed not so smart, but you’re a little bit cute. Hey, join us! Hahahahahahahaha!”

***

She actually used herself as an attention seeker for those delinquents, so as for the guy being bullied to be out of their sight.

“Your unnecessary laughs bring unacceptable noises to my ears. Please avoid increasing the noise pollution any longer.”

“What! You wanna fight?!”

“I’m not asking for it.”

***

She said that she’s not asking for it, but it felt like she does.

One delinquent grabbed her necktie, and she just aggravated him more.

“So you’re fighting girls now. Since when did you become trash?”

“Why you—!”

The guy really wanted to punch her, but I stopped him. Sorry, I happened to be there.

“Let it go, bro.”

I managed to save her, but she... sounded like she didn’t need it. After that, Nee-chee and others came.

Because of Hashimaru’s blackmail, she became an agent against her will.

We received a mission. But for them, it’s their first mission.

It was protecting an artifact.

All of the girls seemed so quiet. Girls are complicated creatures.

“We’re going to search for the stone. We’ll divide the team into four groups, by partners. If you find it, contact the others using the communication gears.” Nitsuji instructed.

But, all we did was argue...

***

“Faster! You walk like a turtle!”

“Leave me alone, will you!”

“NOOOOO!”

***

It was then that the mountain moved.

The ground split up, and she almost fell on the surface.

I managed to grab her wrist.

“You’re heavy!”

“Bastard! ”

The mountain was quaking so much.

“Hey, what are you doing?”

“Sorry.”

She said, as she let go of my hand. She fell.

Why the hell did she have to do that?

It was then I was crazily looking for her.

“Calm down, Jairo!”

“There’s no way I could! She’s just so close to me, yet I couldn’t save her!”

“It’s going to be alright. Just calm down.” Nitsuji kept trying to calm me down.

“I’m partly responsible for her. If anything happens to her, I won’t be able to sleep.” I looked all over for her.

It was then that I’ve been so worried that I slipped and fell. I lost consciousness.

When I woke up, a beautiful girl with a long hair was already by my side, looking out for me.

“Are you alright?”

“Who are you?”

She felt different. She put her hair down.

We then, managed to save Nitsuji from the criminals who also wanted the artifact. The girls proceeded to the cave where the artifact dwells.

It was then that we heard a gunshot.

“What? Is Ace and others alright?”

“Come on!”

When we arrived there, I saw the girls bathing in their own blood.

“Wha—! So there are enemies here too!”

“Jen, are you still conscious?”

“Shy! Shy! Stay with me!”

I saw Jen, and came close to her.

“Don’t move, Jen!”

I said.

She’s trying to stand.

“I...”

She was barely standing and she felt like she was about to faint already, but she kept getting close to the artifact.

“I heard... you have s...trong po...wers... I’m sorry... for making you... dirty.”

She said.

“Ken! Ken! Please!”

“Come back, Ace!”

“Sorry, Shy.”

Nee-chee and others were already crying because the other girls were dead.

She talked to the artifact, as if she’s already dying.

“I know... my life’s not that great. I... am selfish, and unkind. I... didn’t have anything to... be proud of.”

She kept talking to it.

“But if my life could save them, please... I offer you this life of mine. Please let them live. Please... let them be... happy. Please... let them experience... the happiness in the world... one more time.”

She just... wished to exchange her life for the people she just met.

“I beg you. I won’t ask for much. Please... in exchange for my life.”

She leaned her forehead to the crystal and closed her eyes. She’s already willing to die. It was then that the crystal started to shine.

“What’s happening? What’s going on?”

Not so later than that. Everyone came back to life.

“What the! They’re alive!”

“Ouch, you’re hurting me Nee-chee! Let go!”

I didn’t actually care for that. I was so focused on Jen.

“Thank you.”

She said, and fell unconscious.

But before that, I saw a silhouette of a man just beside Jen. It felt like I had known him before.

“He left her sister alone. Please find her for me, Jairo. If it’s you, I know you’ll keep her safe.”

The man I just saw was like a brother looking out for his sister. Just like that man...

“Haha, what a coincidence! My sister’s a lot like you.”

Jen was really the girl I was looking for over these past few years. It was then that it shocked me that the man smiled at me. The man in the silhouette. I carried Jen back to the base.

But I still came back to the artifact.

Not so later than that, a voice still came to me...

“You got taller... Jairo.”

“It’s really you.”

“Take care of her for me.” I turned and said...

“My sister wanted... me to look out for her. It’s not for you.”

“Thank you, Jairo.” I couldn’t afford not to cry that time.

He sounded like my sister too. Why were they thanking me? I haven’t done anything yet. I was just about to protect her, but...

It felt like the both of them were really rest assured that I will do it.

***

When we had our next mission...

“Jairo, you really are bad to Jen. Could you at least change your attitude towards her?”

Shy and I got to talk.

“I’m not bad.” How am I bad to her? I was showing her kindness though.

“Jen is just bad at expressing her feelings, but she’s far too kind. You yourself know that right, Jairo?”

“Yeah.” I said.

“Take care of her.” She said.

“By the way, you could have the bed. I’m going to sleep outside.” I explained.

“Eh? You sure about that?”

“Yeah, I used to sleep outside too.” It was then that I left the room.

I felt bad for Jen. I injured her hand when we were playing.

I was staying outside up in a tree watching the clouds. Not so later than that, someone came.

“So you really are here, Jairo.” Someone I knew came.

“What are you doing here, Warrod?” I seriously asked him.

“Haha, relax. I was here as a butler.” He said.

“Butler?” He jumped off the tree and said...

“In the meantime, don’t anger the witch or else the girl will suffer.” He said that.
