Chapter 22:

Ur City

The Worst Hero

I can already see the city of Ur. It is bigger than I thought, but not huge either.

Since that day that I faced that spider, some strange things have happened. As soon as I woke up the day after the fight with the spider, I went back to the place to see if the spider had left any items other than the crystal, because it was dark that day and I could not see very well. And as I was walking to the place I had to hold on to a branch and because of that I had to use some strength, when I did that I felt something coming out of my hand, and I couldn't get loose from the branch. When I looked closer, I realized that there was a wire coming out of the palm of my hand. And this happened several times, whether it was coming out of my palm, or my fingers, or between my fingers, it was obvious that it was not natural.

It was obvious that it was the power of the Elemental Crystal that I had eaten, at first I thought it was some kind of web, but it wasn't literally just a thread coming out of my hand. It was obvious that I had to look more closely at it later, but, I didn't have time for that now. As I arrived at the place of the fight, following the spider's claw marks (which had become much more visible now that it was daylight), I noticed a person looking at the bodies. He had blond hair, and wore a very elegant outfit and had some medals on his clothes. Besides him there was no one else, just a horse. The webs that made it practically impossible to move in that area were gone, all of them, without exception.

Looking at his clothes and what he is doing I am almost certain that he is an important hero. Well, I prefer to avoid confusion and if he really is someone important, he will certainly manage very well in this situation. I decided that it was better to leave.

-"I kind of understood what happened after analyzing everything... but wouldn't you behind the tree like to give your opinion too?"

What ?

How does he know I'm here? I always hide like this from monsters and have never been seen. If he could really perceive me then maybe I am in danger. So I decided to show myself.

- "How did you see me? I thought you were well hidden."

-"Hey, didn't you want to be seen? You didn't even hide your Nill."

- "Hide the Nill?"

- "Um, you must be a rookie hero, right?"

I didn't say I was a hero to him, so how does he know? Is it some ability of his? I could just be a traveler, an explorer or even a lost inhabitant, how does he know I'm specifically a hero ( in this case, will I be ? )

-"Eh, how do you know I'm a hero?"

- "Easy, ordinary civilians don't have such a high Nill, that anyone knows. This may be just intuitive, but going deeper, I'm guessing you're a summoned hero from another world."

In a few seconds, this guy has already found out all this about me. He is dangerous.

-"Why do you think that ?"

-"When people see me, they usually get euphoric, start bowing their heads in respect, and kneel in my honor, but you, you're treating me like a complete stranger, hence my kick."

This guy is...

- "I am the leader of the 9 royal heroes of the Capital of Ennis, I am Takahashi Naoya, it is a pleasure to meet you."

That explains everything, he is literally the strongest person in the Capital of Ennis. Sheele told me to treat anyone of the nobility with respect, so maybe that first impression of mine was not so good.

-"Normally I don't care to know people's names, but with you, I have a certain interest, what's your name?"

- "My name is Satoru Iori, it's a pleasure to meet you..."

- "Okay Iori-kun then. Before I ask you about what happened in this forest, I'd like to ask one more question. Are you going to the city of Ur to get your Hero Certificate? If not, you should go and do it."

This guy is already scaring me.

-"Yes, I'm going for that reason."

- "Well, that was easier, I can't see your name, so if you had a hero certificate I wouldn't have to ask you."

-"..."

- "But, well, since we're playing guessing games, I'm going to give my opinion about what happened in this forest and you're going to tell me if I'm right or wrong, okay?

- "Maybe..."

- "Well, looking at the bodies that I found when I arrived, they are not yet in an advanced stage of decomposition so I think they were killed 1 or 2 days ago. I was passing through here in the direction of the capital, when I remembered about a "monster" that was attacking the rookies and travelers, and since I was already here, I decided to put an end to it. As soon as I arrived there were several webs everywhere, either in trees or on the ground itself, this obviously indicates that the monster in question is a spider."

- "It has been a month since the Ur City slave and monster merchant lost one of his goods, a spider from the Gelnhat dungeon. Apparently, while transporting his goods, some problem happened and only this spider managed to escape, and coincidentally, 1 month ago the cases of beginner heroes and travelers disappearing near the city of Ur increased considerably. There are many types of spider, but it is clear that the webs used here were of an attack pattern, and the spider in Gelnhat's dungeon is one of the only monsters that has an attack pattern and uses a strategy to hunt its prey."

- "When I got here, there were marks on the ground as if someone was in a fight against the spider. But, I doubt it's one of those three dead heroes, because, after analyzing their shoes, none of them match the marks on the ground, besides, they are dead, and the spider is missing, normally it would be near their bodies, but I've already analyzed the perimeter of the area and I haven't found anything, well... nothing but you who were sleeping on top of a tree."

- "So I believe that, whoever it is, this person fought this spider in an even life-or-death battle aiming for the webs to be covering that whole region of the forest and managed to kill it."

- "What do you think of my deduction Iori-kun ?"

He is very intelligent, his deduction was perfect. In my world, if there was a case like this of murder, it might take months or even years to come to a conclusion like this, but in just a few hours he made a perfect deduction.

- "Yes it's a very convincing deduction."

- "Hehe, well... being more direct, I believe it was you who killed that spider."

Yes, I knew he wouldn't take long to connect the dots.

- "Well, I can't blame you for thinking that, but that's impossible."

- "Really?"

- "Sure, think, I don't even have a hero certificate and I think you should know that as a rookie hero, I would die in a direct confrontation with a dungeon monster."

- "Maybe..."

- "It could be that just, she fled far away or, if someone killed her, that same person left quickly after that."

He thought for a few seconds and said in reply :

- "Well, I can't accuse anyone without proof, I would like to give a special medal, to whoever did this, but since there is no one here, I will go to the capital to record this event."

He got on his horse and said :

- "I'll have someone come to pick up these bodies, so don't worry about it, see you later Iori-kun."

I nod in response and he leaves.

Even after avoiding talking to people, I end up having to talk to the leader of the royal heroes. I hope I never see that guy again in my life, even though I know it will definitely happen.

After this, I went back to my camp and from the camp I continued my journey to Ur. My hand kept releasing wires continuously and it is unbearable. What kind of incredible power is this ?! Loosening wires ? Just kidding...

I need to know more about this power of mine, I am intelligent so I have to know how to use it in the best way possible.

Well... I arrived...

Big wooden gates, huge stone walls and lots of people entering and leaving the city. I can't lie, it is very nice to come back to a city after being so far away from people.

I arrived in Ur.
